Fed up of other peoples dogs complicating my life.

I don't mind dogs. We don't have them because of environmental concerns - we have vegetarian pets.

However recently I am fed up as trying to arrange to meet various family members seems to be totally constrained by their dogs . Here are examples:

Lets meet up for a pub lunch - family member A - "are dogs allowed"
Lets go for a country walk - family member B "can it be dog friendly"
How about a beach visit - family member C - "will dog have to be on lead"

I want to see family - not their dogs. Why can't the dogs just stay at home ...............

We love our pets but we don't want to take them everywhere with us.

Your post is exactly what the op is on about.

You can't see it can you?

Maybe you mix in very doggy circles but not everyone does.

A young or untrained dog changes the dynamic massively and it's annoying.
It's like being child free and you Mate brings her toddler for lunch

Or those people that take there husbands every time they go out HmmHmmHmm

And I say this as the owner of an adolescent dog He is bloody hard work at times and I dont always want him with me. He is having training but it's a loooooong process. [/quote]
I'm child free and adore my friends children. Wouldn't make one bit of difference to me if their children came to lunch or dinner.

My dog is left at home whilst DH and I work, or go out for dinner, or go shopping etc. I wouldn't turn up to a friends BBQ or whatever with him unless they invited him.

Maybe I'm just a laid back person and I'm happy to see family and friends dogs, children, Guinea pigs, lizards etc 🤨

And no, not all dogs smell.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 22/05/2021 09:18

I also hate it when my friends bring dogs on our days out, or to my house, but because people are weirdly defensive of their dog I don't usually say anything (I do ask them to leave their dog in the car though, I don't want my house stinking and if they go in the garden they only poo where their owner doesn't see). Especially annoying when they bring them on a walk which will end up in the pub, I hate dog friendly pubs and avoid them at all costs. But then again I usually say I'll skip the pub and go home.

Then again I do seem to come across very few well trained dogs these days (including my friends' dogs). I grew up with dogs and my mum was like a seargant major training them. They never jumped up at people, never licked anyone, never shat or pissed in the house past about day 3, never went on the sofas, never went upstairs, never bothered other dogs on their walks. They know where they were in the pecking order in our house. This is how dogs should be - not some lunatic jumping up to snap in my face as their owner says "isn't she good!" Hmm

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 22/05/2021 09:21

All dogs do smell 😂 if you think yours doesn't you are nose blind.

Children are not dogs. They are humans, who can't be left at home alone (unlike dogs) it's totally different.

Not to their owners maybe but definitely to others.

@LaurieFairyCake

Well pets that eat plants I assume Grin

Bunnies, hamsters, rats etc

Rats... vegetarian!? 😄

@wishes1111 and I was replying to you, as is allowed

wishes1111 · 22/05/2021 09:26

@JBaez I can assure you they don't 😂 every single person who comes into my house cuddles my dog (he's a cuddler) and they often comment how nice he smells.

He gets groomed every 3 months and has clean bedding every 2/3 weeks. I know he doesn't smell lol.

But you missed what context I meant that in 😂

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 22/05/2021 09:28

Of course your animal smells!! Do you think your dog is the exception 🤣🤣 no polite person is gonna tell you your house stinks, and a quarterly groom won't take away the whiff that dogs naturally bring.

It's not a failing that it smells you know, no one is judging you, but your dog will smell the same as every other dog

wishes1111 · 22/05/2021 09:30

@FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop you're very small minded if you believe that every dog smells. I hope you have sniffed every dog that's existed to back up your nonsense 😂

UpTheJunktion · 22/05/2021 09:32

I get you OP.

Long term camping friends have just acquired a dog which means that 4 families are now reduced to choosing sites that allow dogs. (Most of the type we all prefer do not)

And put up with constant disturbance of calling the dog, keeping it out of our tents, going on dog friendly days out, etc.

I don’t think they realised the impact of a dog. It is actually greater than a child because you can take a child into a NT property / various attractions etc.

In the end there is one trip that is planned that they won’t be able to come on unless they leave the dog in kennels or with friends, and they are already being plaintiff about it, but the other 3 families have been planning to do it for over a year so..

Bit odd.
All animals smell.
I’d love to meet this unique dog of yours.

LST · 22/05/2021 09:38

Stinks is a bit harsh. They hardly smell like shit or sewage. Just not like humans.

Dogoodfeelgood · 22/05/2021 09:41

Wow all these anti dog people, you are aware we live on planet earth, surrounded by animals and insects and all sorts of different smells? How strange to want a completely sterile life! So far everyone has been thrilled to have our dog along for things - it’s the very reason we got her, to have a furry buddy for pub lunches and at the beach. We are capable of leaving our dog with a dog sitter in the evenings so don’t take our dog everywhere - but we would definitely expect that they would be welcome on walks and to pubs - any friend who suggested otherwise wouldn’t really remain in my life very long to be honest. And my dog definitely doesn’t smell enough to disturb a meal! If it’s a rainy day, people’s raincoats and soggy jumpers would probably overpower any fresh dog smell anyway. In my life I’ve definitely noticed a difference between dog lovers and anti-dog people and the latter are generally not as nice all around so there is no love lost between us and I am happy for you all to go to dog-free places while the rest of us enjoy life with lovely dogs! Grin

BobsYerUnclee · 22/05/2021 09:44

@CrystalE

Because it imposes a restriction about route - can't go across fields with baby lambs/ big cows, b) might get shot by farmers c) have to carry bags o shit wondering when dog shit bin will appear d) can't go on certain beaches

Without dogs you can just look at map, find a nice walk, look at Trip Advisor, find a nice pub. Bobs your uncle

I can wholeheartedly tell you, I am not your uncle.

YABU, leave the dogs alone Grin

When I’m cuddling our lovely puppy I literally enhale her fur because she smells so wonderful, like sunshine and goodness! Maybe I’m bonkers though Grin

SoupDragon · 22/05/2021 09:47

He gets groomed every 3 months

Yeah... he smells. After 3 months he smells of dog, of course he does 😂

LST · 22/05/2021 09:47

@Dogoodfeelgood nothing beats puppy smell. Nothing. My dogs ears smell a bit puppy like.

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 22/05/2021 09:49

@Dogoodfeelgood because owners become nose blind. Your dog isn't a magical exception.

And I can assure you wet dogs smell far worse than wet jumpers 🤣🤣

FrangipaniDeLaSqueegeeMop · 22/05/2021 09:51

@SoupDragon

Exactly!

Humans smell if they don't shower for a day or two. Dogs smell, they clean themselves with their mouths. I can't believe people are arguing they don't smell 🤣 honestly OTT dog people are actually the worst
