My DP is a mansplainer extraordinaire. We were walking along the coast toward a famous (in these parts) lighthouse.

He told me what a lighthouse was.

That women shouldn't care about transwomen using female toilets, it's not a big deal, there's no problem with it Hmm

Seriously, how do you cope with this?

I work in construction, I’m a QS. I’ve had my role mansplained to me more than once before and told I was wrong when i turned round and said no that’s not what I do. Hmm

Was also told by someone that wow I must have got that job on some quota to hire more women Shock I enjoyed turning around in a rare display of being this cocky (but he’d really annoyed me) and shrugging and saying well “mortgage free at 30 and driving a nice German car so it’s worked for me either way” and watching the man literally turn green Grin

I was going to say it would be quicker to tell you what hasn't been mansplained this week

But actually you win with lighthouse!

@Somatronic

It's not recent, because I have been locked down since Christmas, but a male colleague once mansplained feminism to me.
I've had that. Not from a colleague. A guy who was trying to chat me and my friend up (I don't think he was too bothered which of us he pulled. It was neither of us).

A couple of weeks ago - power of attorney. I'd forwarded links of a podcast about it, and he explained it to me.
Yes, I had listened to the podcast before I sent it to you you twat

PriestessofPing · 20/05/2021 12:59

Where the issue is with male violence against women. Apparently the main problem is us wimmins have been riled up by the media and are now fearful for no good reason. Hmm

Unsuremover · 20/05/2021 13:01

My mums car needed air in the tyres ans she has an issue bending at the moment so asked me to do it. I requested going early in the morning somewhere quiet but nope needed done there and then on a Saturday afternoon. As if my magic no sooner than I had started the air a man materialised from no where to tell me how to do it. Which has happened every time I’ve ever done anything beyond petrol in a garage. I’d done 4 tyres by the time he had explained that the machine presets to a pressure and won’t go beyond that.

Cocolapew · 20/05/2021 13:02

I was mansplained at this morning. On how to use a petrol pump Confused.
It was lashing and windy but still he thought he should walk around the pump to tell me how to use the pay at pump.
He was very put out at being told to fuck off.

QueenPaw · 20/05/2021 13:04

How I should always pull forward to the first pump at a petrol station, how I was blocking it and holding everyone else up. I drove off, he angrily moved to the first pump to find the big out of order sign. He couldn't use another then as there was a big queue
I did try to tell him...

WeakAsIAm · 20/05/2021 13:04

I was interrupted twice by a man recently who felt it necessary to correct my opinion.
His reasoning: I was explaining my own opinion incorrectly?!?!?

thenightsky · 20/05/2021 13:10

How a clitoris works.

Spaghettio · 20/05/2021 13:10

My BiL once tried to mansplain three things in very quick succession:

The Great Barrier Reef (I'm Australian)
Maternity Leave (I work in HR)
Giving birth (I was 3 months pregnant at the time)

He was living in his mums spare room at the age of 26 while unemployed.

Spaghettio · 20/05/2021 13:12

Oh and DS1 (age 16) mansplained to me how to feed our new cat. He's never had a pet in his life whereas I grew up with them. But y'know, his girlfriend has a cat so clearly he knows best.....

DialSquare · 20/05/2021 13:15

When I suspected I had gallstones (the most painful thing I've ever experienced) and the GP insisted it was gastroenteritis, I told my Dad that I was sure it was gallstones and was going to get a referral for my private medical insurance. He told me that it couldn't possibly be gallstones as they are really painful! Yes I know Dad. That's why I was often on all fours on the floor during the night rocking back and forth trying to ease it! Guess what, turns out I had gallstones with one stuck in my bile duct!

I feel your pain, I also work in construction - mansplaining is constant, daily and very fucking annoying
Reallybadidea · 20/05/2021 13:19

Strictly speaking, not mansplaining but a plumber once told me to get my husband to give him a call so that he could explain what needed doing Shock This was basically because I had called him out on saying that something was required by law, which it bloody wasn't, he was just trying it on Angry

Heavymetaldetector · 20/05/2021 13:19

Just remembered - I used to work in Leeds as a cello teacher while which meant carrying the thing around on my back commuting etc. I looked like a turtle. Anyway, this was a magnet for mansplainers and man questions
'oh can you play that? I play the guitar, can read music? Have you head the Elgar Cello Concerto?' ALWAYS men, ALWAYS patronising questions or mansplainersing music to me. Literally every day for the the years I commuted. Precious memories.

Jellybabiesforbreakfast · 20/05/2021 13:19

My 3yo boysplained The Wheels on the Bus to me the other day while we were singing it. Apparently, the daddies on the bus say "Stop that Noise!" while the mummies on the bus say "I love you".

Not this one!

The temptation to say " the mummy that you have says, fuck that noise" must be overwhelming?
Esspee · 20/05/2021 13:25

I regularly get men trying to demonstrate the right way to pour my bottled beer into my glass. For me the best bit of my pint is the head so I pour to maximise this. That apparently is wrong 🙄 .

GodolphinHorne · 20/05/2021 13:25

I know this is all ‘light-hearted’ but don’t think the small children ones really count? My three year old daughter also regularly explains stuff to me, like words to songs that I’m getting wrong (i.e. instead of her nonsense versions).

But, I do have a meeting coming up with a male colleague who has kindly offered to explain work/life balance to me, and how to work part-time properly.

Jellybabiesforbreakfast · 20/05/2021 13:27

@Ostara212. Indeed Grin! The Mummy on this bus says "Shut the fuck up!"

We were actually on the bus at the time though and the only other passenger was an elderly lady who was giving my son wholly unnecessary encouragement in his musical efforts.

@SJMACC

BreastfeedingConfusedHmm
Yes my male neighbour in his late 70s mansplained breastfeeding to me. And told me that it was only lazy women who gave bottles. (I was a bottle feeder due to issues I did not need to go into).

When my DS1 was in Yr 6 I was struggling with helping him with some of his maths homework. It was just a different way to what I was used to. He fixed me with a beady eye and commented ; 'Mummy I think you are going to find Year 7 quite hard'.

That still tickles me to bits. Grin
