One project a day- 2nd thread!

BlueLobelia · 19/05/2021 19:01

Welcome to everyone, old hats, lurkers and newbies.

This is a thread where we try and achieve something, no matter how small, a day.

This was the preamble to the previous thread ;

''......many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :) ''

everyone welcome!

Hi everyone, will catch up in thread later but just wanted to say to @Peridot1 I am so sorry for your loss and will be thinking of both you and your family. Sincere condolences to you all and hope you can feel some support both in real life and we are here for you as well. Flowers x

Sparklynewname · 07/07/2021 22:02

@Peridot1 I am so sorry to hear this. My thoughts are with you and your family xx
I have taken this week off work sick this week as DS took an OD on Sunday evening/ Monday morning. We are worried sick about him.
I have been cleaning and tidying whilst wracking my brains with guilt. Bookcase has been refilled and the sideboard has been put back. Dog weed on it last night.

Iceisnice · 07/07/2021 22:50

@Sparklynewname so sorry to read your update and hope that your ds is ok. Look after yourself and please do not punish yourself, you are going through enough. Flowers

BlueLobelia · 08/07/2021 11:31

WFH today so I am going to try and sweep our disgusting patio during lunchtime.

No-one I called about rubbish clearances / plumbing / garden clearance has returned my calls. Hmm

Morning
@BlueLobelia that's annoying hope someone gets back to you ASAP
Ds is home isolating so he's going to help with jobs to earn pennies.
I still need to clear the patch by the back door.
A good sweep out back.
Clear the front of leaves and rubbish.
Repot the sunflower.
Plant the new plants I bought.

Sparklynewname · 09/07/2021 15:00

I have emptied the mug cupboard out and have a few which can go in the bin as they are damaged. Also brought the coffee down to a level I can reach it at and have put stuff back to where it should be.
Also sorted out the shelf with the drinks bottles in a different cupboard.
Am going off to look for the plane shortly as we have a sticky door which needs painting. I am desperate to get the dining room finished as it will give us a boost.
DS is just moping in his room still and I don’t know what to do with him 😩

DownUdderer · 10/07/2021 05:23

@Sparklynewname I'm sorry to read your update. How upsetting.

I'm not loving lockdown! I'm just really wanting to wail about it!

I think I've ordered 5 jigsaws, I had a drink and then started clicking and I'm sure the kids will fall out with each other and hate the jigsaws!!

@Peridot1 and @Sparklynewname, you are both very much in my thoughts. Sending hugs and Flowers

I have been away for a short while, caught between being vaccinated and having teeth removed. All healing well apart from one and it’s made me a bit grumpy!

So far today, I have attended an exercise class (creaky body needs help) and have done the laundry. Feeling a bit sorry for myself but the two manuscripts were finished up this week, and that’s a huge weight off of my shoulders.

Tomorrow I will get started on those bathroom walls! I promise to get it done this time and I know that I will be so happy to accomplish that project. Might ask DH to join me while DC out with friends.

DownUdderer · 12/07/2021 03:09

I'm just setting my sights pretty low, laundry has been put on and I'm happy with that.

MrsRussell · 12/07/2021 08:20

Sorry to hear about present troubles, @Sparklynewname and @Peridot1. Thinking of you both.
We've started painting the kitchen. It was a sort of very faint blue, but five cats who mostly leave by the kitchen window have left it distinctly pawprinty and worn away a lot of the cheap emulsion from before we moved in. Mostly due to the five cats we can only do a bit of painting at a time as it's open plan so we can't shut them out!
Also embroidering a border for a pair of curtains for the Junior Engineer's bedroom (it's a row of crows on a fence, he loves ravens and crows) - this sounds like more rather than less clutter, but in fact it means the curtain fabric remnant comes out of the slush pile and gets used up!

Unreasonabubble · 12/07/2021 19:53

Well I started!!! I have gone through at least 6 suitcases of old clothes and my wardrobe. My DD is going to look through and see if she wants anything then my DSIL will be taking all the black bags to a charity shop. I cannot believe I have made a huge start!

Sparklynewname · 12/07/2021 22:11

Went back to work today. It was hard hard going. Lots of love and support from colleagues though.
TookDS out for a drive and a chat this evening. Seemed to go ok until we got home and he’s refusing to eat or engage again.
He has an appointment with CAMHS and social services on Monday.
I’m not sleeping due to the stress and my boob hurts too- which I feel is a good sign but it still hurts and I have no pain killers in the house 😬

DownUdderer · 13/07/2021 10:10

@Sparklynewname your work colleagues sound good.

It's hard to sleep when you're stressed, it's a vicious cycle.

I started a jigsaw today with dd2 it was enjoyable, not too easy not too hard!

I'm waiting for my supermarket delivery, then I'll pack it away.

mamakoukla · 13/07/2021 21:29

I can now hold my head up as I have painted the walls. It took me so many weeks to overcome that hillock. It’s a lovely and bright shade of blue which contrasts nicely with the pale aqua on the other walls. Will need to retouch a few spots (ie roller one of the walls again as it is a bit streaky at points).

BlueLobelia · 14/07/2021 16:25

That sounds lovely @mamakoukla

Difficult few days Chez Lobelia. End of term insanity and I am taking some leave next week so trying to tie up loose ends at work.

i think I mentioned that I am currently working 4 days a week which I need for my own MH. I was hoping to quit my job in September because i hate it. But DH's company is in now bad straits and things are very up in the air there. So after I finish my AL I have to (reluctantly) do what my line manager has asking me to do and return to 5 days. I am struggling with this but am putting on a brave face.

But I have managed to keep on top of the house this week. No new projects as such, but I am happy with that for now.

@BlueLobeliabis there anything you can do outside of work to bring you joy, something to look forward to? Or perhaps a 20 min walk or some time outside during lunch or the work day? It might not change things but it may help make it more bearable if there’s something restful or distracting.

Project for today - booking appointments, tidy up one room in house

Thanks. :) Thanks

Yes, I really need to do this. Find something. What that something is I am not sure. I know that my little house projects bring me happiness so I might give these some deeper thought rather than the 'trying to keep on top of things' approach I have had.

Great concept!

Sparklynewname · 14/07/2021 22:46

Sorry to hear of your difficulties @BlueLobelia.
Mama, your paint sounds lovely 😊
Bare minimum done here tonight.

mamakoukla · 15/07/2021 02:11

Thank you @Sparklynewname! It cheers me up and is also peaceful at the same time. This thread helped me finally sort the walls out and then paint them.

Hmmm I realized that I couldn’t organise the appointments as I am awaiting to hear about some other stuff first. Maybe tomorrow? Otherwise, I gave myself the gift of some time in the garden, pottering about. Need to plant the crocosomia and lilies. They will probably prefer being in the ground to stuck in pots Blush

DownUdderer · 15/07/2021 04:33

@mamakoukla the blue and pale aqua sounds lovely!

I'm just getting through each day as it comes. Lockdown got extended.

FearlessSwiftie · 15/07/2021 05:43

Thanks for another thread, it's really motivating!
Not a one day project for me but I certainly hope to finish all the Photoworks edits before the weekend to give the photos to the client early. Sadly my laptop doesn't seem to think it's time to work. Probably getting a new and faster one would be my next project.

SydneyCarton · 15/07/2021 15:26

Yesterday I ordered the digital downloads of DS' nursery photos, ordered prints from Snapfish and bought some photo frames - the plan is to put the DDs school photos and DS' nursery ones into a triple frame and then gift to the grandmas Grin.

I think today's project will be to tackle some of the laundry pile, which is threatening to overwhelm me again....
