Randy Giles ftw, cracks me up every time I watch it.

“ I laugh in the face of danger. And then I hide till it does away”

Yeah I’m a bit of a buffy nerd...

not watching right from episode 1 now

You never see any of them acting now though do you?

David Boreanaz is on Seal Team now - he was on Bones for about ten years.
Anya was recently in Wandavision. A few of them crop up on the T.V side of the MCU - I think Gunn was on Agents of Shield.

They're all getting on a bit now though, too old to be leading parts any more - they crop up as occasional background characters in stuff.

Of course the real Sunnydale break out was Danny Strong (Jonathan) who wrote the final hunger games film and won a whole load ofwriting emmys - thus making the 'Superstar' episode a reality.

Xander: "Man, words cannot express how much I hate this place."

Giles: "It's dreadful."

Anya: "It's like communism."

James Marsters has been in quite a few things since then too, I think. He did a few episodes of Warehouse 13 (alongside Anthony Stewart Head, actually), and was brilliant in them. He's really excellent at getting the balance between comedy and serious just right.

Loved the musical episode. Spike singing 'Let Me Rest In Peace'... Yeah, hot.

Agree that season 5 was probably the best one, the season opener with Dracula was fantastic. And The Body was so sad but beautiful. And then Spike in the last episode when Buffy is fighting Glory, I properly sobbed watching that. Actually the first few episodes of S6 are excellent too, but it seemed to go off the rails a bit halfway through the season.

Soubriquet · 19/05/2021 16:45

Season 7 was very hit and miss I think

The last episode was fantastic, but all the potentials seemed to ruin it a little. Plus I couldn’t stand Kennedy

Series 7 is the only one I've never rewatched. I love the battle with the Ubervamp (?) but the rest of the series was so depressing.

KickAssAngel · 19/05/2021 16:58

SPOILER ALERT

Just finished watching this whole thing with DD, age 17. When we got to "Seeing Red", about 3/4 of the way through the program she said "oh it's finally getting to a happy bit" and then Warren turned up with the gun.

DH and I got as much enjoyment from watching DD watching it, as watching it all ourselves.

Soubriquet · 19/05/2021 17:01

Yeah I can’t wait to watch it with my dc and seeing their reactions

Me and my brother are on our second rewatch of buffy since the beginning of lockdown last year, we watched angel in between, we don't live together so we watch at the same time and message each other 😂
It's kinda sad but it's one of the few things we have in common Smile

Soubriquet · 19/05/2021 17:14

I’m just trying to think...has there ever been a series like it?

One that is completely empowering women, fun puns and a huge fan base?

BookWorm45 · 19/05/2021 17:14

Lockdown drove me to buy the box set of all 7 seasons of BTVS. Love it, especially Once More With Feeling.

I think that's so unfair,
There was no parking anywhere,
I think that hydrant wasn't there...

KickAssAngel · 19/05/2021 17:15

but series 6 is very dark - not just what happens, but a lot of unhappiness & arguments. Then Series 7 felt like they only had enough plot for about 2/3 of a series, so there are several episodes that are just fillers without much development. I know that they're kind of sitting around feeling useless and waiting for the end, but it didn't seem like a brilliant piece of deliberate writing to make the audience also feel like they were just sitting around, bored and restless, waiting for it to be over.

Justme10 · 19/05/2021 17:16

I don't think there has been or will be anything like buffy again, it's got something for everyone.

'They got the mustard out!'

StrictlyAFemaleFemale · 19/05/2021 17:16

You make me CUMple-ete!

afrikat · 19/05/2021 17:17

Literally sang that as I read it 😁

HeyDemonsItsYaGirl · 19/05/2021 17:18

I think of Charmed as Buffy-lite. It was aiming for the same thing (even ripped off several plots and episodes) but certainly isn't as clever or funny.

Would any other programme have dared introduce Dawn the way they did? Dropped her in with no explanation and let the audience discover who she was at the same time as the characters?

Flittingaboutagain · 19/05/2021 17:19

@StevieNix yes!

Haven't seen this for ages. I think I have it on DVD.

Ah my people.

I'm currently indocrinating dd and apparently her younger brother too. Every Tuesday dh and ds1 go out to various sports so me and dd started Buffy night. If we start as soon as they go out we can manage 3 episodes.

I can't wait to get further in. We've just had Buffy's birthday and Giles has been sacked by the council.

Soubriquet · 19/05/2021 17:27

Dd often plays on her phone as we watch as it was our 2 time round. However, I always knew when she needed to pay attention and is tell her to look up. She's convinced I must have been watching ahead as I knew every single time she needed to see something. Nope, just obsessed.

DoTheNextRightThing · 19/05/2021 17:29

It's Standing that always gets me. "Wish I could lay your arms down and let you rest at last. Wish I could slay your demons but now that time has passed..." ❤️

Eivor · 19/05/2021 17:37

Ah you guys are so lucky to have DCs who want to watch it, mine won’t watch past S1 because, ‘the graphics’ 😡

My yearly re-watch is coming up soon, so I’ll try again.
