What would you buy yourself as an indulgent pick-me-up treat...?

Having a bit of a down day and hence doing a bit of window shopping.

Say you had a budget of £50 (so not a small amount but not loads) to spend on whatever you want, what would it be?

Doesn't matter how frivolous!

I was wondering about maybe this as enthused about by Caroline Hirons or perhaps a selection of posh socks as lots of mine are past their best.

A book, coffee and cake in a fancy café, possibly knickers with whatever was left.

JemimaPyjamas · 19/05/2021 10:26

Fancy as in super fancy, rather than just naice...?!

Well, the best my little town has to offer, which is quite fancy Smile

The book, coffee and cake idea sounds good.
If there is a book you have been waiting for the paperback/Kindle deal version of it can feel very decadent to just buy the hardback!
If that's not your thing maybe just go for the tea and cake cake somewhere that is lovely but you usually talk yourself out of because £6 for a slice of cake is ridiculous?
Treats should be the version of things we wouldn't usually get ourselves otherwise it's not a treat.
I would buy silk French knickers, they are so comfortable in the summer but about 6 times the price of the plain cottons ones I normally buy.

To be honest some nice wine and a tub of salted caramel carte d'or ice cream

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 19/05/2021 10:45

@ineedaholidayandwine I can’t buy that Carte D’or salted caramel icecream anymore as I was quite capable of eating the entire tub in an afternoon and want more

Umm. Some perfume probably or a posh scented candle.

CeibaTree · 19/05/2021 10:53

I'd probably buy a book, some bath bombs and a takeaway. Or maybe a bottle of perfume - my current favourite is Luna by Penhaligon's :)

BarbaraofSeville · 19/05/2021 10:54

It's always food or alcohol for me. With £50 I'd go to M&S or Waitrose, pick up a few 'that looks nice' while trying not to look at the prices.

Or a nice walk. Yesterday I went to the Yorkshire Sculpture Park for the first time in over a year, had a really good wander round in the sunshine and got an ice cream.

Houseplants...always more houseplants

ohnoisaid2much · 19/05/2021 10:57

Burrito, two movies at the cinema back to back (take in loads of snacks)

3Britnee · 19/05/2021 10:59

I'd go for a facial and afternoon tea.

SirenSays · 19/05/2021 11:05

Always a few books, I can't help myself. Maybe a little bottle of perfume or a new game. I'm desperate for a Kloris skincare set and a silky kimono.

Divineswirls · 19/05/2021 11:10

I'd probably buy skin care too OP. Something like Sunday Riley Luna which I'm currently using and absolutely love as it's made a huge difference to my skin. I don't really need to use anything else with it and 45ml has lasted me months and I'm not even through half the bottle yet so very cost effective

tellmewhentheLangshiplandscoz · 19/05/2021 11:11

Dior often have a small gift with purchase for this amount and put extra samples in with every direct order. Beautifully packaged so you'll feel totally spoilt opening.

Trick I guess is finding a couple of things you like which are that exact amount!

Divineswirls · 19/05/2021 11:12

Books for me are a necessity rather than a treat so my money would not be going in that direction

Xiaoxiong · 19/05/2021 11:21

I'd try and get a friend to go for a pedicure with me and have a nice long chat while there. That being said, I don't know if this would be as nice if we both had to wear masks the whole time!

See also: a properly relaxing massage. I haven't had one in nearly 2 years and the thought of it is amazing. Or a facial.

Xiaoxiong · 19/05/2021 11:24

If we're talking buying things, I'd go for makeup or skincare too. I've just started using (on the GP's recommendation, weirdly) the La Roche Posay Effaclar system and it seems to be doing good things...but it does mean that my previous makeup isn't really doing much for me (and I don't wear much anyway!) Thinking about checking out Charlotte Tilbury Wonderglow or Glossier Futuredew on the basis of one of the threads in S&B recently. Or maybe trying out Skin+Me personalised skincare...

badatcrochet1996 · 19/05/2021 11:27

I just did this, bought myself a personalised shampoo and conditioner from function of beauty. I found a 20% off code but it was still over £30. Not something I'd usually do but I just got a first in my assignment so felt I deserved a little treat.

NoMoreHGTVPlease · 19/05/2021 11:29

Go to superdrug and buy a load of their christmas sets which are £1 today? Bang for your buck?

Otherwise, massage?

Sobloodyexhausted · 19/05/2021 11:36

I’d buy a posh lightweight sweatshirt for summer - something from Hush or Cos.
Alternatively a relaxing massage treatment. When I have the time and money I get a blissful cloud therapy with a local therapist: an hour of head massage, foot massage and reiki for £40. Absolutely amazing!

Love51 · 19/05/2021 11:39

Massage, 100%.
I don't have posh clothes but a relaxed back.

Newestname001 · 19/05/2021 11:44

I'm looking for a comfortable, well fitting pair of walking boots with good support in the sole/heel and ankle so that's the direction I'd be going in. 🌹

blaisealex · 19/05/2021 12:08

Probably books for me too. A couple of books and my favourite foods. Probably a Colin the Caterpillar, a bar of Cadbury Dairy Milk, M and S Cheese Puffs.

MrsFeatherDuster · 19/05/2021 12:20

Some new lingerie just for the school run, a few pairs of expensiv or a spa day.

JemimaPyjamas · 19/05/2021 12:31

Ooooh, these are some fabulous ideas! I have a soft spot for scented candles too, and a massage would be bloody wonderful at the moment!
