I know I'm a weather bore but WTAF is going on...

Honestly, hail, torrential rain, winds and local flooding since last night and more to come. It's May FFS and I'm still in my jumper and heating on. Have an outdoor thing this weekend which is looking less and less likely because garden now waterlogged and more rain on the way. Hate this weather so much.

It's utterly shite and it makes me think summer is going to be awful too.

Temp023 · 18/05/2021 13:57

We’re killing the planet, these are its death throes!

edwinbear · 18/05/2021 14:20

It's my birthday next week. Last year, stuck at home right in the middle of lockdown, I spent it in DC's paddling pool, drinking champagne and enjoying my new book. This year, it will be spent wrapped up under my heated throw.

Up here in Scotland then we aren’t getting a summer at all.

I actually usually buy a spring/summer jacket at this time of year but instead I bought an autumn/winter one, and I need hat and gloves to go out otherwise my ears and fingers freeze.

I hope to god September/October will fare better...but I doubt it.Sad

FizzyPink · 18/05/2021 14:22

It’s ridiculous! I just went to the post office in a gilet and was sweating standing in the glorious sunshine in the queue. Now I’m back home 30 minutes later and the sky is black and it’s torrential rain!

Donitta · 18/05/2021 14:23

Global warming.

MarcelineMissouri · 18/05/2021 14:24

It’s hailed nearly everyday here recently (Midlands) We have 10 minutes glorious sunshine then rain and hail on repeat.

It’s ridiculous and I am very fed up.

rirette · 18/05/2021 14:28

So so fed up. Does anyone have a crystal ball 🔮 that tells you when summer is actually coming?

Patientzer0 · 18/05/2021 14:57

This was S.E London yesterday, torrential rain and hail. Awful.

It was looking okay here for a couple of hours and now looking like a November agin. Think it’s meant to be looking slightly better next week. I really hope so.

S Lakes here. Had rainstorms of Biblical proportions for several days in a row. This afternoon is wall to wall sunshine, fluffy clouds and it's not as chilly as it has been. I'm still in fluffy slippers and a hoodie though! Last Spring I was outdoors enjoying the warmth!

bellropes · 18/05/2021 15:22

I feel so sorry for the insect eating birds and bats. How on earth can they survive when it's too cold and wet for the insects to get going?

Ilovemaisie · 18/05/2021 15:25

Sunny. Downpour. Sunny. Downpour. Sunny. Downpour. Sunn - MAKE UP YOUR FRIGGING MIND Grin

Xiaoxiong · 18/05/2021 15:25

bellropes we seem to have more insects than I can remember in recent years! Great clouds of gnats, loads of bumblebees, I noticed quite a few butterflies while walking earlier and dragonflies down by the river. A lot of fields and verges around us are not being mown at the moment so I think that's helped.

cheezy · 18/05/2021 15:27

I’m not sure that it IS global warming necessarily- is it? Weren’t there some statistics to show that it’s not much wetter than the average May?

AfternoonToffee · 18/05/2021 15:29

I can't believe I still have my heating on every day.

Freshprincess · 18/05/2021 15:29

Stealth boast, it was quite sunny here this morning and I out some washing on the line.

So many pubs and restaurants had to shut over the bank holiday because the weather was so awful nobody was turning up. It’s so sad for them.

Isn’t it always the way, one sunny summer, 3 years of rainy ones.

BlowDryRat · 18/05/2021 15:46

I dunno but we're off camping over half term so it had better cheer up!

I do think's meant to... we're away too and the idea of a week of this is hideous.

For those needing a translation, it means don't go without your coat or warm clothes until May, i.e. the Hawthorn Blossom, is out and in full flower.

I have a hawthorn hedge and the buds on it are as yet tiny.

MarshaBradyo · 18/05/2021 16:06

It’s nuts this week

Hail yesterday as per pp

What does it mean @Davros? My brain can't compute!

I've just borrowed a gazebo from my neighbour for DM's outdoor party on Friday on the basis that rather than it being (according to the weather app) hail, torrential rain, black skies and general feeling of end of days, it's one rain cloud and 45% of rain. Seems almost balmy. :)

newlabelwriter · 18/05/2021 16:08

Thank you for that @BlankTimes

It's not just the UK. I'm in SW France. It's been raining for days now.

Heating is on and we still have the electric blankets on the bed.

Tomorrow is opening up day for cafes and restaurants outside only after being closed since October.

Might need boots and a coat FFS Sad
