I know I'm a weather bore but WTAF is going on...

Honestly, hail, torrential rain, winds and local flooding since last night and more to come. It's May FFS and I'm still in my jumper and heating on. Have an outdoor thing this weekend which is looking less and less likely because garden now waterlogged and more rain on the way. Hate this weather so much.

@ItsCokeFFS - the idea of eating outside fills me with dread and I'm doing it on Friday :(

My friend is finally able to re-open her cafe tomorrow so I will venture out there in the morning.

We have a terrace table at a bar booked for fish and chips in the evening. We have been able to get them as takeaway but it's not quite the same when you have a 20 minute drive home - they don't travel well.

We have a 7pm curfew at the moment, but that changes to 9pm from tomorrow Grin

Fingers crossed the "proper" weather for May returns. Not sure I would brave it in the UK!

Good luck to your friend - the UK is grim at the moment. At least, I suppose, you're guaranteed some prolonged sunshine at some point?

Also sunny again now. in thirty minutes am sure it will be black skies again.

FizzyPink · 18/05/2021 17:50

Honestly if we start getting very short summers and this becomes standard for May I will seriously put some effort into convincing DP we need to move abroad.

Bluntness100 · 18/05/2021 17:50

It’s the same here, south east, supposed to be raining for another eight days. I’m sick of it already.

Shorthairlady · 18/05/2021 17:51

We had zero rain n April so it's jumped to May instead.

Abracadabra12345 · 18/05/2021 17:52

Yesterday we had sunshine, thunder, hailstones and heavy rain. It was fantastic.

I’ve hated and dreaded the hot, humid heatwaves in the SE where I live which start in April and go on and on, so I’m delighted it’s been pushed back. Sorry! I’m just loving this

TonTonMacoute · 18/05/2021 17:52

It's horrendous.

I was buying some stuff in the garden centre earlier and I asked someone about getting some topsoil. The sound of the monsoon hitting the corrugated plastic roof was so loud we couldn't hear each other!

Getting out to actually do anything in my garden, with or without topsoil, seems like a distant dream at the moment.

Abracadabra12345 · 18/05/2021 17:53

Agreed. You only have to look at the growth everywhere to see how much nature needed the rain. It’s gone nuts
Pyewackect · 18/05/2021 17:54

@Temp023

We’re killing the planet, these are its death throes!
I thought was down to Brexit and the Tories ?
BadgeronaMoped · 18/05/2021 18:09

For some fun weather nerd time I recommend watching the Met Office 10 day trend on YouTube, we're just on the cooler side of the jet stream at the moment. For extreme weather nerdery you can crank it up a notch with Gav's Weather Vids on YouTube. Ooh, also the netweather forums!

BadgeronaMoped · 18/05/2021 18:10

But yes, I agree, the weather is a bit shit and weird at the moment.

Melitza · 18/05/2021 18:15

@ItsCokeFFS

It's not just the UK. I'm in SW France. It's been raining for days now.

Heating is on and we still have the electric blankets on the bed.

Tomorrow is opening up day for cafes and restaurants outside only after being closed since October.

Might need boots and a coat FFS Sad

I'm sw France too and dh has cut more logs today, woodburner going all day. Was so excited to sit on a terrace tomorrow but may have to take umbrella!
GiantKitten · 18/05/2021 18:19

Do any of you remember the hot summers of 1975 and 1976? Those had cool damp springs (& even snow in June in 1975!), so don’t despair Smile

Also, re current weather in France, I went on a work trip to Brittany in mid-May 2010 and there was frost at night (though at least it didn’t rain as well!)

Niconacotaco · 18/05/2021 18:20

@MissScotland101 west coast here and it's been lovely. Few scattered showers but that's it.

Rockbird · 18/05/2021 18:24

I'm with you @Abracadabra12345. Anything that delays the horrid heat is absolutely fine with me! I'd rather be wet from rain than sweat.

MissScotland101 · 18/05/2021 18:28

@cheezy

I’m not sure that it IS global warming necessarily- is it? Weren’t there some statistics to show that it’s not much wetter than the average May?
It’s not the rain that bothers me, it’s the coldness! I can’t believe that I have to wear hats and gloves on some days, most people where I live are the same, that’s deffo climate change.
MissScotland101 · 18/05/2021 18:28

Aw you’re so lucky...I’m East Coast Hmm

emmathedilemma · 18/05/2021 18:31

@MissScotland101

Up here in Scotland then we aren’t getting a summer at all.

I actually usually buy a spring/summer jacket at this time of year but instead I bought an autumn/winter one, and I need hat and gloves to go out otherwise my ears and fingers freeze.

I hope to god September/October will fare better...but I doubt it.Sad

I don't know which bit of Scotland you're in but it's been blue skies and sunny here the last few days! I went out for a walk at lunch and would have been ok in just a tshirt (and I feel the cold).
jaundicedoutlook · 18/05/2021 18:58

I’m glad I’m not the only one with the heating still on…! We’d had some new radiators fitted last week and had to have the heating off most of the day - I was sat in a jumper shivering and it’s **ing May.

Abracadabra12345 · 18/05/2021 19:06

@Rockbird

Think we’re the only ones though. I’m relishing every single day of this for as long as that lovely jet stream hangs around
MissScotland101 · 18/05/2021 19:15

Just outside Edinburgh, I haven’t worn hats and gloves this week but prior to this then I’ve been cold, one day last week I had to take my jacket off as I was sweating but again, it’s my hands and ears that are cold, so kept them covered, it’s the wind and it hasn’t reached 17 and beyond, nor will it!

emmathedilemma · 18/05/2021 19:21

Ah I think you're in a microclimate @MissScotland101 I'm in Edinburgh itself and it's been fine but my friend a few miles into Midlothian was moaning about the cold and wet on Sunday. She had torrential rain and I'd caught the sun!
