I know I'm a weather bore but WTAF is going on...

Honestly, hail, torrential rain, winds and local flooding since last night and more to come. It's May FFS and I'm still in my jumper and heating on. Have an outdoor thing this weekend which is looking less and less likely because garden now waterlogged and more rain on the way. Hate this weather so much.

@CovidCorvid

I’m meant to be going away caravanning next week and think I will cancel. The whole week looks like a wash out and the wind is picking up next week!
We are off today with the caravan to North Norfolk coast, if we hadn't have been retired we would have cancelled because of wasting valuable holiday days. It looks not quite as wet next week but still very cold, I have packed all winter clothes, 2 macs, wellies and walking boots and a full iPad of downloaded telly programmes as tv and phone signals will likely be shit
ForwardRanger · 19/05/2021 06:23

It's called climate change 😔 and we know it's escalating

Mindymomo · 19/05/2021 06:59

We are in Surrey. It was quite bright at 5 am, but is now dark and raining. We’ve got a garden visit today at 10 am, then an outside pub lunch booked after. Hoping it’s like yesterday am, where I was walking in t shirt and got 2 loads of washing out and dry before the rain at 1.30 pm. My son has a furlough day Wednesday and he’s been really unlucky, so I will let him sleep in till later.

I'm really not looking forward to half term of the weather will be like this. We don't want to be on the beach in the rain Sad

My only slight consolation is that here (East mids) it is sunny until lunchtime/early afternoon then it starts the weird rain/hail/Sun hokey cokey so I can dry washing outside i the morning.

Hawthorne is in full flower here and getting hailed on regularly Grin

Very jealous of those of you who have the few hours of sun - it's so grey out there today. I'll never complain about the heat again (I so will ;) )

2 days ago I was lying (briefly) in the garden in the sun.
Barely 10 minutes later there was a violent hailstorm, followed a little later by rain coming down in tropical sheets.
We’ve been glad of some rain - everything around here (SW London) was bone dry, but this was something else.

newlabelwriter · 19/05/2021 09:10

Just seen there's 50mph winds due on Friday - I think that is the final nail in the coffin for my outdoor soiree Hmm don't think my gazebo will be able to cope with that.

Woo hoo - are we all looking forward to our fabulous UK holidays this year? 😬

MadisonAvenue · 19/05/2021 09:21

It’s not just here. I’ve got a friend who lives in Canada and she got sunburnt at the weekend.
Today she’s posted a picture of her garden covered in snow.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/05/2021 10:15

I dare say Shakespeare was familiar - ‘Cold winds may shake the darling buds of May’ and all that.

We certainly had plenty of those, along with the hail and rain.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 19/05/2021 10:20

I blame it on my son in law - the lack of warmth, at least. Over a month a go now he dug out, re-erected and filled, the mini above ground swimming pool they acquired for Gdcs last year.

Talk about asking for trouble, or at least for shit weather.

Just think of all those "lovely walks"!
newlabelwriter · 19/05/2021 10:49

@CloudPop - oh yes, the walks.... in the rain. Grin

Don't, I desperately want to go abroad for some guaranteed sun but can't bring myself to take the risk 😭

I'm holding out for the canaries October half term 🤣

"Cast not a clout till May be out "...old country saying ..nothing new about this..get yer bits out next month ..maybe

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 19/05/2021 11:16

I’m looking forward to mine!

Edinburgh, Bamber, Holy Island.

I’m really looking forward to it

MyOctopusFeature · 19/05/2021 11:21

May has always been unpredictable in the U.K. and I have seen many of them. Warm moist air meets colder air at the edges of seasons and it ripe for storms. In the same way we get a similar seasonal edge in August. People are very young or don’t have good memories.

Of more concern is the bunching effect of our dry and wet weather. Look at April. Still and dry with single isobars that stretched some days from Ireland to Monaco.

Davros · 19/05/2021 11:41

We are in north Norfolk since 11pm last night. The weather here is glorious at the moment. It looks like it might hail this afternoon though!

secular39 · 19/05/2021 11:46

I thought the same too! I thought it was just me who noticed. I travel a lot for work and thought the changes were due to the fact that I am in different regions. First, I would take the train somewhere and it would be hot so I'll take my jacket off. Then when I get off the train, it's raining?!!! and I put my jacket back on again. I honestly don't know what's going on and surprised it isn't talked about as much.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 19/05/2021 12:36

S Lakes again - we've had a warm, sunny morning followed by a massive rainstorm, then hail. Sky is clearing again. I just want to hang some bloody washing out!!!

QueenPaw · 19/05/2021 12:37

My cat keeps going outside, coming back in demanding a towel as he's soaked, then repeat. Constantly. He also glared at me because it's still raining Hmm

fussychica · 19/05/2021 14:00

We're meant to be going on a 3 day break to London tomorrow and was intending to visit some parks and walk some of the Regent canal as although museums and galleries are mainly open many have timed entry and we've done most of them last summer. We do have an exhibition booked for Saturday too but we are seriously thinking of cancelling the whole trip though we will loose our money. I'm just not sure I want to wander around in rain and gales searching for shelter rather than enjoying the place. Sad

GiantKitten · 19/05/2021 16:19

I’m in E Lancs and we’ve had 2 lovely sunny days in a row!
(Supposed to be hideous tomorrow though...)
