Which hours would you choose out of these options?

Same amount of hours but I have the choice of

8.15-4.15 with half hour break

Or

9 - 5 with half hour break

Children are fine for transport to school there and back.

8.15-4.15
Traffic will be better to get home at 4.15 than at 5. And finishing at 4.15 is just a nicer feeling than finishing at 5!!

TeapotCollection · 18/05/2021 06:28

Definitely the earlier start/finish. That 45 minutes will make a big difference to your evenings, especially if you have to travel (by that I mean not WFH)

Lulu1919 · 18/05/2021 06:29

8-15

The earlier start.

OhToBeASeahorse · 18/05/2021 06:36

Definitely the earlier start. You have to get up for work anyway, 45 mins isnt a huge difference but finishing at 4.15 will make you feel you've loads of time at the end of the day.

heyyyall · 18/05/2021 06:37

Is it work from home or do you need to travel?
If I'm working from home I will do some jobs before work so later start time would work for me. If traveling into work I just want to get going as soon as I can to make traffic and parking easier so I'd want to start earlier.

Oversize · 18/05/2021 06:38

Earlier one

NewYearNewTwatName · 18/05/2021 06:42

earlier one commute should be shorter too.

trying to get anywhere for 9am and leaving 5pm will definitely take longer. Unless you are just walking round the corner.

riotlady · 18/05/2021 06:44

8.15-4.15, would much rather have the extra free time at the end of the day

KatherineJaneway · 18/05/2021 06:45

8.15-4.15

RaiseTheBeastie · 18/05/2021 06:47

I'd choose 8.15 - 4.15.

On the days I need to work in the office it would be a 20 minute commute if leaving at 7.50 - but a 35 minute commute if leaving at 8.20!

Even worse on the way back as my office is based in a large industrial park with nearby retail outlet - you can barely get to the end of the road in half an hour if leaving at 5.

DancesWithDaffodils · 18/05/2021 06:51

8.15 start
You can just about pop into town/Dentist/Optician after work rathercthan having to wait for the weekend.

ItsGotABitOfPink · 18/05/2021 06:52

Early start. I wake up early and hate waiting round to go to work.

MorganSeventh · 18/05/2021 06:53

I'd go for 9-5 because I'm a morning person and would rather have the extra 45 minutes before work to go to the gym. I'm less likely to go in the evening, plus it's busier and would have to pay for peak membership. However, it would depend on the timing of rush hour. Around here it runs about 7:30-9 in the morning and 3:30-6:30 in the evening so either option would be busy.

Blowingagale · 18/05/2021 06:54

Earlier for me. However are you a night owl - do you struggle to get up in the morning already?

NoMoreHGTVPlease · 18/05/2021 06:55

Later. You know it will be hard to leave at 4.15 and end up doing longer hours anyway!

BetterThanKleenex · 18/05/2021 06:56

9-5 for me. Less rush in the morning and 5 isn't too late to finish. Depends on commute though.

Marmite27 · 18/05/2021 06:57

8:15-4:15 all day long!

I used to do 8am-4pm when I was in the office, with a half hour lunch. The car park got busy around 9am so it was best to be early. If I was going in anyway I may as well be working.

WeAllHaveWings · 18/05/2021 06:58

Definitely 8:15, earlier if possible. I do 7am - 3:45pm (and 1/2 day WFH Fridays) when I commute. It saves me well over an hour of travelling daily and I get a good start to the day before I get more interruptions as the office gets busy at 9.

Just make sure to block out your calendar 4-6 so noone books meetings and keeps you late.

Rainbowqueeen · 18/05/2021 07:01

Early start as less traffic and still time to fit in appointments after 4.15 eg hairdresser

newnortherner111 · 18/05/2021 07:03

I'd start at 8.15 myself. Six weeks a year more of leaving work in daylight, and all the other advantages other people have noted.

Egghead81 · 18/05/2021 07:05
