Sat INSIDE Costa today and it was Dead!

Really pleased to be able to sit in and have a drink so headed there after school run half expecting not to get a table as there are less tables with social distancing and always seemed busy last time....

Nobody there! I stayed for a few hours it was joyful. Only two tables (at separate times) were occupied the time I was there yet all the outside seating was taken despite the rain (the outdoors has cover). Are people too nervous to sit indoors or maybe they didn’t notice? All I know is I was so happy to drink out of a proper list cup inside Smile

I’m addicted to Costa and cannot wait to go back and sit in again! I purposely didn’t go today as thought it would be rammed!

Caesargeezer · 17/05/2021 16:31

I went to Costa today, it was so nice to be able to have a cup of tea while out shopping and sit somewhere warm and dry!

It's a shame that you aren't supporting independent cafes instead of a massive corporation.

Maybe there wasn't an independent cafe nearby?
tulips27 · 17/05/2021 17:02

If the choice is there I will pick sitting outside every time for the time being.

flashylamp · 17/05/2021 17:03

Sounds perfect. Ours has been busy for weeks now. It stresses me out going as you never know if you are going to get a seat or end up standing with your tray like a tit Grin

Massive corporations employ people too. Their jobs are no less important than the people working in tne independent cafes.

paralysedbyinertia · 17/05/2021 17:06

I'm not a fan of costa personally. Horrible coffee. I'd pick Nero if I had to go to a chain, but would always choose a nice independent cafe if the option was available.

I won't be sitting inside anywhere for the time being, though. I'd rather not risk it.

HoldingTheDoor · 17/05/2021 17:06

The.

HoldingTheDoor · 17/05/2021 17:10

I'm loving sitting inside cafes and restaurants again. I spent a very happy half hour in Tim Hortons last week. After seeing GreenLeafTurnip's post, I might go to Costa tomorrow.

motogogo · 17/05/2021 17:11

I like sitting in cafes too but on a Monday morning most people are working, cafes are unlikely to be busy

Pumpkinstace · 17/05/2021 17:11

I'm sat in soft play. The kids have the place to themselves.

I'm sat here with cake and coffee and to be honest, it's bliss.

Pumpkinstace · 17/05/2021 17:32

Oh and it's the cleanest soft play I've ever witnessed

whattodo2019 · 17/05/2021 17:35

I'm not ready to sit inside coffee shops and restaurants ....

UseOfWeapons · 17/05/2021 17:41

Sat outside for a drink today with friends, but even that was a palaver.
I don’t want to engage with T&T, yet this year, despite large numbers of vaccinations, we have to give names and numbers even if sitting outside. Last year we didn’t need to do that, I think there will be a reluctance to come back if this daft system stays in place for much longer.

MarkRuffaloCrumble · 17/05/2021 17:54

Same here OP. Met with a friend for the first time in months and was expecting to be waiting for a table but there were only two other people there when I went in at 3.30 and it’s right near a school! Was really nice to just sit and chat like the old days Smile. And yes, we could have driven out of our way to go to an independent rather than go to the coffee shop within walking distance of both our houses, but we didn’t.

justasking111 · 17/05/2021 17:58

Sat in a tea room this afternoon it was bliss

Lsquiggles · 17/05/2021 18:00

I'm hoping it'll be the same on Sunday when me and my sister go to our local starbucks for coffee and cake Smile

DappledThings · 17/05/2021 18:01

Pretty busy inside the cafe of the garden centre this afternoon. And that was at 2 so too late for the main lunch crowd and a bit early for the afternoon coffees!

🙄 There’s always one.
JingsMahBucket · 17/05/2021 18:06

Enjoy your hot drinks, quietude, and normality @sociallydistained.

ALongHardWinter · 17/05/2021 18:27

Same here. Only about a dozen people in there at any one time. Hmm

whatswithtodaytoday · 17/05/2021 18:36

I'm not sitting inside until I'm at least three weeks post-vaccination. Still don't want to get Covid, thanks!

MrsJBaptiste · 17/05/2021 19:41

@whattodo2019

Genuine question, when will you be ready to inside again?

Everything seems so much more normal today, the gym was packed as classes back on and the pubs/restaurants had people in them as we drove past. DH said the roads were back to being (rush hour) busy this morning which I think is great as we're slowly getting back to how things have been.

TheCountessofFitzdotterel · 17/05/2021 19:44

I met a friend for coffee and went out for lunch with dh, different places, both started empty but filled up which was lovely to see.
