If you're a size 12/14.....

What height are you and how much do you weigh please? Or what is your BMI?

Also maybe which shops you buy 12s from.

I've lost a lot of weight lately and finding that size 14s from some shops are getting too big.

But - I feel like I'm too heavy to be a 12.

I don't shop in fancy places really. M&S. Next. Supermarkets.

But my BMI is 28. I really thought in my head I'd need to be a healthy weight before I was even close to a 12.

12st, size 12 ,5’9

Pumpkyumpkyumpkin · 14/05/2021 14:24

12, 5ft 4, 10st 6lbs, BMI 24ish

ConfusedAdultFemale · 14/05/2021 14:25

Size 12, 10 and a half stone 5’7” (or 5’6” depending on whether you measure me morning or night Grin)

I’ve yet to find trousers from anywhere that fit comfortably, they’re usually too tight or loose around my waist. Tops normally fit already from anywhere though and dresses too. Skirts can be a hit or miss (and don’t get me started on shorts).

Passthecake30 · 14/05/2021 14:28

Size 12 bottom half (10 on top) 6ft, 10st7. Bmi 19ish I think. I get most of my trousers in next (tall range)

currentlynotavailable · 14/05/2021 14:29

Around 12st 6 I think, 5ft 2in around a 12 top and 14 bottom, BMI too high, around 29/30 I think.
Next, in the style (breastfeeding friendly), I often buy online in 2 sizes and try on multiple sizes in the shop to find what fits, I have massive thighs and backside but a small waist so find it hard to find bottoms to fit as they gape at my waist.

HipHopBanzai · 14/05/2021 14:32

5 foot 9, 11 stone 8lb.
Size 12/14.
BMI about 24.

DelurkingAJ · 14/05/2021 14:32

74kg, 5’10” so BMI in the healthy range (23.3 apparently).

Clothing from Hobbs, Tesco’s (hurray for long jeans), Fat Face and anywhere else I see something I like that fits!

BackforGood · 14/05/2021 14:33

Don't buy clothes according to your weight.
Some people are heavier than others.
My (young adult) dd is fit (plays sport and trains a lot) and slight but is more than 2 stone heavier than I was at her age.
She wears a 10, and I'm a 14 - well probably 16 now after this last year, but I am only a couple of lb heavier than she is now. She is about 1.5" shorter than me too.

My weight can go up or down by up to a stone without it making any difference to dress size.

Noooooogsh · 14/05/2021 14:34

Always a 12 bottom half, 12 or 14 on top. I’m 5 foot 10 and 12 stone 10 ish (trying to lose some weight 😩)

QuentininQuarantino · 14/05/2021 14:35

Size 12, BMI 28 (am working on it), 5 foot 5 and 75kgs.

Dizzy1234 · 14/05/2021 14:36

Size 12/14 depending on the shop, 11.5 stone, bmi 26, 5'8".
I buy from river island, new look, H&M, zara and primark, I don't worry about the size of clothes just that they fit.
H&M size 12 or medium, river island 12 or 14, new look 12, zara usually size large, primark size 14

Monkeybunkey · 14/05/2021 14:37

5'6", 11st 9lb, size 12-14 (although often buy size 16 tops as I have massive boobs).

HalfTermHalfTerm · 14/05/2021 14:38

5”5, about 11 stone 9. BMI is around the 27 mark.

If a size 12 fits you, then you’re a size 12... at least in that particular item anyway! I have clothes in a range of sizes from 8-16 (only a few items at the higher and lower ends though) it all depends on the shop and the individual item of clothing.

Amz6219 · 14/05/2021 14:40

I'm a 12 - 5 foot 3 and 10.5 stone (think my BMI is 26...).

I am definitely a 'pear' shape and struggle with bottoms more than tops, but I wear a lot of dresses.

I love new look, H&M and missguided

MotherOfGodWeeFella · 14/05/2021 14:41

How tall are you? I think you're experiencing vanity sizing - those 14s are probably more like an old 16 used to be. To have a BMI of 28 I'd need to weigh 11st 10lbs and I'm 5'4" tall. I was definitely more a size 16 at that weight and my frame is small so I really looked heavy.

peachescariad · 14/05/2021 14:43

5' 4", 11st 4lbs, 27 BMI size 14....some makes are tight, Primark mainly while some are (slightly) loose like Matalan!

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/05/2021 14:48

Size 12, height 5'4, weigh 11 stone 2lbs, BMI 26.6. I'm an apple shape so carry most of my weight around my middle. Buy most of my clothes second hand from vintage shops.

HercwasanEnemyofEducation · 14/05/2021 14:50

Clothing sizes are measurement linked, not weight/bmi linked.

M&S 12 on top and 14 bottom for me with similar numbers.

DialsMavis · 14/05/2021 14:50

5ft 7, 10 stone 10lb (and hopefully still shrinking)
I wear a 12 but some recent shorts were a bit tight on my big thighs and some high waisted jeans are a bit big round waist to accommodate my arse.

Jeans from H&M as still hoping to shrink a bit more, although I am pretty sure my hip bones are a size 12 anyway

Tuckedinbelly · 14/05/2021 14:55

This is really interesting. I'm 5'6 and 10st 13lbs after losing 10 stone. I think at least half a stone is saggy skin if not more.

I've bought a load of clothes and I'm in the middle of size 10 and 12.

Keeping most of the 12s, but maybe 10 isn't ridiculous.

Waxonwaxoff0 · 14/05/2021 14:55

I think body type is more important than weight when it comes to clothing. For example I am an apple shape, so carry most of my weight round my middle, have small boobs and slim legs. If I just lost a stone my waist would shrink considerably and I'd be a size 8 in tops.

TooMuchAndNotEnough · 14/05/2021 14:57

Clothing sizes are far too variable to be a reliable guide of anything. Wear what fits, ignore the size labels.

DownWhichOfLate · 14/05/2021 15:01

What are you actual measurements? Because that will influence where best to buy from.

Sick · 14/05/2021 15:02

You should look at my body gallery, you might find it interesting.

Clothes sizes are inconsistent and weird and there are way more factors in how clothes fit than just weight.

CharlotteRose90 · 14/05/2021 15:04

5’7 12-14 but more of a 12. 79kg. Not sure on bmi. Most of my weight is on my hips and thighs. My goal weight is 69 again.
