Tomorrow I will be submitting my masters thesis. 6 years as a single mother of 3, eldest DS has asd, hearing and visual impairment. I have done a foundation degree, started my BA and was asked to transfer to an integrated masters, asked I tells you. And tomorrow, after a year of pandemic, MH struggles and homeschooling I get to submit my masters thesis Grin

What is your big brag?

I love this thread, you are all awesome and I wish you all every success.

I have just been offered a new job, well away from my current abusive, sociopathic boss and managed to get a 30k pay rise in the process. They can’t wait to have me and I’m going to brilliant 😁

Congratulations OP - that's amazing!

Mine is that after a shitty year last year juggling work, homeschooling my DD (YrR) & a toddler through lockdowns & worrying she'd be behind as we hadn't been able to keep up with the work & there was no online provision. When we had our parent meeting with her teacher a few weeks go she said DD had taken a test (NELLI?) to see where they were academically & DD tested in the top 1% of children in her year in the UK for Linguistic Comprehension & isn't behind at all.

I have been volunteering regularly for years, and they said lovely things about me and asked me to be deputy chair, even though I’m significantly less qualified and expert than most of the people there.

I’ve had my confidence knocked at work what with homeschooling and being seen as not delivering to my usual standard, and this gave me such a boost.

NameChangeforMoneyThings · 13/05/2021 22:18

Wowsers, this is a super impressive thread. My degree half killed me, I can't imagine going back and doing one with children!

My brag is that I have been in a covid-planning (mathematical) role for the whole pandemic, well two roles now (in addition to my usual role for most of it) and have given my all for the last 14 months to help the NHS prepare and run as best it can. I haven't been "on the frontline" but I have given everything I have to give and more and I hope it has made a difference. My organisation has had some of the best results in the country at least in part as a result of the work that I have done.

Ringsender2 · 13/05/2021 22:19

Wow - go you ladies! And what a great thread @Biblionerd ! Check out @womenpostingws on twitter. It's similarly ace.

My braggggggg - I started C25K in January, ran my 5K just before my 50th 7 weeks later, then ran a virtual marathon around 3 or 4 weeks ago. I'm delighted with myself. Go me!

Harrystylesismyjam · 13/05/2021 22:21

What an awesome inspiring bunch of people, some fab achievements here. Loving all the academic stuff.

In the last year I’ve achieved my masters also which I did studying part time on top of work. Gutted I haven’t been able to have a graduation ceremony yet because of stupid Covid. I also bagged my dream job, significantly increasing my wage and taking our family income to over the personal target I had for us. So bloody chuffed with myself!

whatisheupto · 13/05/2021 22:23

We were in a cramped house in a shit location and kids were unhappy at their school, and work was problematic. Felt like we would never be able to change our situation. But I was dogged determined and I spent over a year plotting and planning. Now our lives could not be more different. We moved far far away and every aspect of our lives has improved dramatically! I still have to pinch myself that I managed to make it happen! I hadn't really thought about it in terms of pride until I read this thread, but yes I realise now I feel bloody proud for getting us here after a decade of everything being a bit shit.
Well done to everyone on this thread, what a fab thread!

JamieFrasersBigSwingingKilt · 13/05/2021 22:31

This is one of the best threads I've read in ages. So good to read about women being positive and achieving and not hiding their lights under bushels because were meant to be modest and/or we can't outshine our partners. Well done to everyone for their achievements! I'm so delighted for you all.

I got 2 job offers last month, secured myself a 62% pay rise and now earn £110k pa. I'm also bloody good at what I do and am one of the most senior women in the new business I work for. The two women more senior than me don't have kids (which is absolutely fine) but I was taken aside by a woman more junior than me with kids saying that I'm a great role model to show others that you can be a woman with kids and succeed in the business. Yay!

Sickoffamilydrama · 13/05/2021 22:32

I'm almost there with a huge improvement program within my family business which employes 70+ people. I took over last year and in the middle of a global pandemic in the worst trading we've ever known we've not only been surviving but have learnt and implemented a whole raft of lean manufacturing principles and processes into a business that had barely a handful before Grin

Biblionerd · 13/05/2021 22:34

I am so glad I started this thread! I'm in awe of what we are capable of!! Promotions, house moves, academia. We are incredible!!

My friend has been doing similar and working flat out well done 🙌
The3rdWatermelon · 13/05/2021 22:37

This is such a lovely thread. I really needed this today!

My brag is that I finished my PhD and got a postdoc despite my PhD studies being suspended for a while due to me being diagnosed with a very rare genetic neurological condition. I was then brave enough to leave academia for a job I really really wanted rather than stick with something that was making me utterly burnt out and crippling me with self-doubt due to an overbearing, ultra critical manager. Because of my condition I’m currently going through IVF and I’m crying at everything (I’m crying at this thread right now!) but today I got through a task at work that I found very challenging. I didn’t cry. And my manager said afterwards that I made a better job of it than he had and that I had saved it when it looked like it was going wrong.

On top of that, the pony I have trained, backed, broken in and brought on all by myself since he was born was sold yesterday to a lovely family who think he’s just wonderful and he’s going to do all the lovely kids’ pony activities that I’m too old, tall and fat to do with him, and just be loved to bits.

Rainydays14 · 13/05/2021 22:38

I can’t compete with most of these, @Biblionerd that is brilliant, as are many others on this thread. We have had our own business for the last 25 years, and for the first time, we are starting to make some decent income, expanding, and managing to work a bit less. It should be life changing as we head toward retirement so fingers crossed. It’s been a tough road sometimes but we have such a great set of employees that I think it’s finally going well.

Wow, managing to do that at all would have been impressive enough, but doing it in a pandemic is crazy impressive!

Thank you for starting this thread OP, it's lovely to hear all these acheivements.

Carriemac · 13/05/2021 22:40

I should have graduated t with my three children , one PhD, one BA , one BSc and one medical degree . (All cancelled / virtual)

DH is feeling left out 😆

Carriemac · 13/05/2021 22:41

Oh and fab well done @Biblionerd what an amazing example you are to your children

MabelPines · 13/05/2021 22:42

This thread is flipping brilliant! Well done to OP and everyone else here with your brilliant, well-deserved brags, incredible women all.

Couchbettato · 13/05/2021 22:42

I'll have made it to 26 tomorrow.

I've managed to go round the sun 26 times, without even breaking a sweat.

Pretty proud of myself.

UnitedRoad · 13/05/2021 22:42

Every single one of you are absolutely wonderful and I’m so delighted and (probably weirdly) proud of you all.

Mines a bit pathetic in comparison. I’ve always been pretty rubbish at everything, but I love sewing. It was a bit of a joke among my family and friends but I’ve just persevered with it, and started an Etsy shop 2.5 years ago. My daughter was looking at my shop on erank today (it’s an Etsy statistics page) and pointed out that I’m in the top 5% of sellers globally. What I make is quite niche, and I don’t advertise, so secretly I’m really proud of that Smile

UnitedRoad · 13/05/2021 22:43

Happy Birthday 🥳 for tomorrow @Couchbettato

Biblionerd · 13/05/2021 22:44

@thethirdwatermelon wow, just wow! You are incredible!! I'm in awe and sending you all the good vibes! The pony will have a beautiful life too.

@Rainydays we aren't competing with anyone, just unashamedly bragging our pride, your brags are just as valuable as all the others! Huge congratulations on the business.

I found out this week I got 96% in my post-grad exams!

Can't believe it, it was by far the hardest exam I've ever done 🙈🙊🐵
