What is your laundry routine?

Theoldwoman · 12/05/2021 14:17

Was watching something on YT a few days ago, and it got me thinking about how others do their laundry.

Please share if you like!

Do you have a routine? Do you wash certain items on certain days?
Do you sort?
Hot wash or cold?
Line dry or tumble dry?

Do you have a favourite detergent?

No particular routine

Dark/colours
White/lights

Currently using fairy pods and the white comfort conditioner with vanish powder

If I'm washing bedding or underwear I'll add some dettol laundry cleanser

AgnesNaismith · 12/05/2021 14:25

Do it, leave it in the dryer for a few days

Or

Hang it out and put it in a basket until it needs to be worn

minipie · 12/05/2021 15:08

I do have a routine sort of

Monday is bedlinen washed and dried, and folded if i get time
Tuesday is bedlinen folded (if not done on Mon), dark wash on and dried, and light wash on and dried if I get time
Weds is light wash on and dried (if not done on Tues)
Tues or Weds eve is clothes folding
Weds or Thurs is putting bedlinen and clothes away
Saturday is towels
Delicates done maybe every 4/5 weeks

mostly tumble dried Blush except stuff that will shrink which gets hung on an airer
laundry is pre sorted as in, we have a dark and a light and a delicates basket and put dirty clothes in the correct basket at the time
Bedlinen and towels washed at 60, clothes at 40, delicates at 20

AH I love a laundry chat! Grin

No particular order on what gets done on what days, other than typically only have one white wash a week, which I do on a Friday evening! Everyday I do a darks wash. Weekend is bedding, just because of timing for longer, hotter wash and usually do towels on their own on a hotter wash too. Everything else goes on a Quick Wash which on ours is 40c, for 40 mins.

I'm also guilty of using the tumble dryer for most stuff, unless it can't be tumbled then it goes on a hanger in the airing cupboard. In the summer though I'll use the washing line for everything except towels as I find they go crispy!

Washing combo:
Surf Herbal Extracts (or Bold Spring Awakening depending on what's on offer)

Lenor Ruby Jasmin Fabric Softener or I've just tried the new Lenor Outdoorable in pink blossom, which is lovely!

Always with a capful of Lenor Unstoppables in Fresh scent!

No routine.

All clothes in linen basket, washing gets done when basket full.
All washed at 30 degrees together - fine for whites, colours, muddy etc. If anything is covered in oil it gets a 40 wash.

Supermarket liquid detergent (from our local supermarket this is cheaper than powder per use). Use about a quarter of the amount it says you should use and clothes come out clean and smelling lovely.

Sheets and towels at 40 degrees when we remember... (or more accurately, when we've forgotten when we last washed them). Caveat, we are not sweaty or naturally stinky! Can imagine you might need a routine for sheets if you do sweat etc.

Grab a handful of stuff from the basket - wash it - transfer it to the dryer - fold it - put into piles by person - hope that the person will grab their clean clothes and put them away.

Repeat each day.

I dont sort, I dont change the temp, I dont do anything special.

FelicityBeedle · 12/05/2021 15:59

Leave until lots of, do several loads which’s re hung or tumbled weather dependant. Leave clean laundry in conservatory for a few more days minimum

Floralnomad · 12/05/2021 16:05

No particular routine . I don’t sort clothes into colours , towels get washed separately , sheets / duvet covers at least once a week . Everything that can be tumbled is , anything else hangs on a hanging rail by the garden doors and is generally dry the next day . Anything that needs ironing goes to the ironing lady on Sunday / back Monday or Tuesday . Currently use a mix of Ariel pods or fairy non bio liquid

Wait until I have a load. Bung all in together. Towels after a few days.

Generally don’t separate as would take ages to have a full load of whites.
Wash it at night/early morning. Hang up on the airer or outside. Either take inside or off the airer after dinner, then 30 mins in the tumble if it needs it.
Iron it.
Take basket upstairs when putting kids to bed and get it all put away.

Usually do the beds every weekend or on a Friday when I’m off so again I’d just have it washed and hung out first thing.

I can’t stand piles of laundry so I always make sure I’m on top of it!

I try to wash laundry as I go along so that's usually every day. I air dry as much as possible. I used supermarkets own brand liquids because we've got sensitive skin and cannot get on with any of the brands.

I change bed linen once a week so that's a couple loads and we go through so many towels!

My DM only ever washed laundry on a Monday!

MWNA · 12/05/2021 16:32

Family of 4 - 2 adults and 2 under 7.

One of us empties the washing basket into the machine every morning - a mixed/dark load on before we all leave for work and school. She then puts it in the tumble drier when she gets home.

The other of us empties/sorts/folds the tumble drying into 4 separate piles and puts in basket to be put away that evening. Then she prepares the machine for the morning with detergent and fabric conditioner so the first one can just empty the basket into it and press a button the next day no faffing.

Whites/lights are done weekly or so. Similar routine.

bubblebath62636 · 12/05/2021 16:33

One coloured load a day washed, dried and out away.

Whites once a week.

emmathedilemma · 12/05/2021 16:34

No routine
If there's a full load I'll put it on.
Bedding gets changed approx every 2 days but tends to be spread over 2 loads as I chuck any light stuff in with some of it (never have enough a load on its own).
Towels on a hot wash every 7-10 days.
I'm quite particular about washing products as a lot of it triggers my eczema so I tend to stick to persil non-bio or Aldi non-bio tablets / liguid tabs.
All gets dried on an airer (which occasionally goes outside) as I don't have a drier or line.
I haven't ironed anything for over a year since we started working from home!

Oh yeah. Towels and bed linen. When we feel they need it. No routine.

And we use Sainsbury's Gentle Orange Blossom Fabric Conditioner because it smells ace. Persil washing pods if flush and supermarket own if not.

Camrette · 12/05/2021 16:39

1 load of clothes a day. Separated into whites, darks and colours. Washed at 30 or 40 depending what’s in it.
Kids beds on a Sunday (washed at 60)
Our bed on a Monday (washed at 60)
Towels on a Tuesday (washed at 60)

Line/airer dried, sometimes finished in the dryer.

Previous days load folded and put away just before I hang up the next lot.

I fell into a routine of
Saturday - school shirts and other whites
Saturday- school jumpers, cardigans and dark adult hoodies
Sunday - DD’s swimming gear and DS’s football training kit
Sunday - bedding (our’s or both children’s)
Monday - dark load
Monday - bedding (our’s or children’s)
Tuesday- light load
Tuesday - towels
Wednesday - all adult black underwear and socks and my swimming gear
Thursday - dark load
Friday - light load

I dry bedding and towels in the tumble dryer, the rest in a mixture of tumble dryer, airer and washing line depending on the weather.

qualitygirl · 12/05/2021 16:46

All of my laundry gets done on a Friday night or Saturday morning depending on plans...wash, dry, fold and put away! I don't drag it out over the week.

itbemay1 · 12/05/2021 16:50

Wash on everyday, sometimes two of enough. Ariel bio pods and any conditioner usually comfort
