Now that Shrine of Duty has finished, I'm missing listening to their podcast while I'm working from home on paperwork. Does anyone else have favourite podcasts they'd recommend?

I also sometimes listen to No Such Thing as a Fish or Infinite Monkey Cage, but they don't hold my attention as much lately.

Do you like true crime?

I love Casefile and They Walk Among Us for my true crime fixes.

LunaHardy · 10/05/2021 10:29

I'm not a monster, shagged married annoyed

WhoWants2Know · 10/05/2021 10:39

I watch quite a bit of true crime on TV, so that might be worth a try.

When I browse through podcasts, I see lots about health and mindfulness, and I guess I spend so much time talking about that stuff at work that I just can't be bothered with more.

True crime for me are
Mens Rea
Casefile
They walk amongst us
Military murders
Criminal Broads.

For a one story podcast over several episodes Hunting
Warhead is amazing but disturbing
The nobody zone is interesting.
I don't listen to all the stories on Even the rich but the episodes about the Murdoch's us fascinating. They are right out of a Shakespeare play!
For short ( about 25 min) crime stories UK true crime is good. He always starts with what was happening musically in the year of the crime
Theres a lot if good shows produced on Parcast. Cults is particularly good. It covers well known cults such as Jonestown and also some more obscure ones.
American Scandal is a good listen too.

I'm looking forward to hearing some new recommendations from this thread.

If you like true crime and the chatty style of Shrine of Duty Lets go to Court is entertaining. Stuff They Don't Want You To Know is interesting. Evil Genius and You're Dead To Me are worth a listen. Just depends what you like listening to really.

I love these threads, always good to get new recommendations

countrypunk · 10/05/2021 11:24

I quite like My Favorite Murder but I fast forward the preamble because I find them really irritating. The stories are fascinating (slash disturbing). Criminal is also good.

If you were a fan of the US version of The Office, I recommend Office Ladies. Lovely stuff.

SoupDragon · 10/05/2021 11:25

I love Alan Carr's Life's a Beach. It makes me laugh almost literally out loud.

LivinLaVidaLoki · 11/05/2021 07:09

I love true crime so I have
Casefile
Redhanded
Seeing Red

I also have a soft spot for Last Podcast on the Left. It can be incredibly juvenile but it's also well researched and delivered.

For non true crime I have the skeptics guide to the universe.

millenialblush · 11/05/2021 07:11

Off Menu with James Acaster and Ed Gambles is very funny

I enjoy my favourite murder but agree with PP you have to skip past the waffle at the beginning.

Freetodowhatiwant · 11/05/2021 07:13

Alan Carr’s is very funny. Shagged Married and Annoyed is really good too and also The Big Travel Podcast has brilliant guests and often has me laughing my head off and sometimes even in tears.

PseudoBadger · 11/05/2021 07:14

Adam Buxton
Dear Joan and Jericha
Hunting Ghislaine
Bellingchat/The Bellingcat Podcast

whiteshark · 11/05/2021 07:16

TinySongstress · 11/05/2021 07:24

Desert Island Dicks. Guests describe the worst people and things they could be stuck on a desert island with Grin

Infinite Monkey Cage for light quantum astrophysics.

Evil Genius for finding out about the darker side of well known historical and current figures.

BBC Sounds is currently running a series of Steptoe and Son episodes for radio. Bliss.

louiiiiiiiiiiii · 11/05/2021 07:26

Lockdown Parenting Hell is absolutely joyful

Tittybittybangbang · 11/05/2021 07:28

The Ratline. Amazing true story about the son of a high ranking Nazi.

You Must Remember This. Tales from Hollywood. The Manson series is great if you enjoy crime.

I previously discovered on one of these previous threads the podcast 'Drunk women solving crime'. Basically what it says on the tin a group of writer/comedians get drunk with a different sleb (normally comedians) and attempt to solve a crime. Very amusing & some fascinating cases.

Jenala · 11/05/2021 08:00

Bellingcat podcast is good.

midsomermurderess · 11/05/2021 08:27

I like Adam Buxton, and Krishna Guru-Murthy's Ways to Change The World and Rafael Behr's Politics On The Couch are interesting and thought provoking. The Ancients is brilliant if you're interested in ancient history.

Ginblooded · 11/05/2021 09:49

Shagged, married annoyed (Chris and Rosie Ramsey - bloody brilliant and hilarious)
Lockdown parenting hell (josh widdicombe and rob beckett - very funny and relatable)
Grounded with Louis Theroux (Louis theroux chatting to people he hasn't got around to interviewing yet.. need I say more?)
Off menu with James Acaster and Ed Gamble (they chat to people about their perfect menu/favourite food)
My dad wrote a porno (just... listen. I can't do this one justice 😂)
The complete guide to everything (if you like listening to two friends chat about shit like I do!)
No such thing as a fish (hosted by the QI elves!)

All excellent! Will go reading back to get some suggestions myself 😊
