Now that Shrine of Duty has finished, I'm missing listening to their podcast while I'm working from home on paperwork. Does anyone else have favourite podcasts they'd recommend?

I also sometimes listen to No Such Thing as a Fish or Infinite Monkey Cage, but they don't hold my attention as much lately.

Following as I've started listening to pod casts on my dog walks

I would be interested in listening to a podcast series about the post office scandal Strictly the last 2 episodes of The Guardian Today in Focus has a really good investigation into it

For other documentary type podcasts File on 4 if very interesting and there was a really interesting podcast serial about Putin I think it was called The Big Steal. I'm just listening the The Teacher's Pet at the moment, shocking and quite chilling.

  1. GREAT username!
  2. You can listen online (search post offoce scandal bbc r4) and I think it just won an award. Really good journalism.

At Least You Didn’t is hilarious, lighthearted, and takes the pain out of my occasional attempts to run.

I listened to that about 18 months ago. It really is shocking! My SIL started to listen to it before it got pulled in Oz so listened when she was in the UK.

I really like The History Chicks.

I’ve learnt so much about women who have made history but who are generally quite overlooked.

No annoying adverts either.

ImAllOut · 11/05/2021 22:37

I love Lockdown Parenting Hell. Also a big fan of Smartless with Jason Bateman, Sean Hayes and Will Arnett, and Armchair Expert with Dax Shepard. They're both quite American, but the former is really funny and the latter has really interesting guests.

There's also a new Gilmore Girls podcast which is exciting! (For me at least...)

Yellowfish2020 · 11/05/2021 22:39

I mostly go for podcasts that make me laugh;
So more votes for Lockdown parenting hell, off menu and RIchard Herring

All killa no filla if you like true crime/comedy. It's hosted by Rachel Fairburn and Kiri Pritchard McLean.

I'm on episide 3 of Chameleon - Hollywood Con Queen.
Its about an elaborate con. I wasn't too sure when I first started listening but I'm hooked now. I'm glad I stuck with it.
It's utterly bizzare.

I really loved the Survival Parcast podcast about the Donner Party (in 3 parts).
I'm Californian and this is a sad part of our history- the pioneers heading out West before the West was won, so to speak.
Anyway, the Donner Party was a wagon train that set out West from Illinois/Missouri I think (the midwest somewhere)... families/pioneers taking part in the westward expansion, The Manifest Destiny. It all went horribly wrong. It's intense, tragic, gripping. It certainly will hold your attention.

The other one I love is- well two of them actually, by Connie Walker, an indigenous Canadian journalist who specialises in missing and murdered indigenous North American women, particularly those who have gone missing on the Highway of Tears in Canada.

Stolen: The Search for Jermain
Missing and Murdered: Alberta Williams

It's more than just Native American women going missing. It's about the misogyny, the violence, the damaging system imposed upon the Native Americans by US and Canadian governments (where to begin and end with that one, who knows? These people have been historically and utterly shat upon), the neglect of the indigenous people, how indigenous women have been so woefully let down by both federal and tribal law... by non-natives and natives alike.
