Do you have an all-consuming hobby?

I don't really.
I do a few things (in non pandemic times) like music, gardening, book groups etc but nothing that is an over-arching MAJOR hobby that others would say "Oh yes, Llama's into XYZ..."

I've been selling some old family stuff on ebay and I've discovered there are massive communities for all sorts of things e.g. vintage dolls, coins, badges etc.

My DH has cycling as a major hobby which consumes him (yes, I know, it's a cliche!)

I feel a bit sad that I don't have a particular 'thing' I'm passionate about.
Anyone else feel like this?

Well, not "all-consuming" but yes, I have a hobby that takes up a lot of my time.

It has advantages and disadvantages! Smile

doucey · 08/05/2021 18:43

Yup cycling! I can highly recommend it OP assuming you have a DP who is supportive enough to share the weekend long rides.

4PawsGood · 08/05/2021 18:44

I’d love if people could say what the hobby is Smile
I need some inspiration too.

Chesneyhawkes1 · 08/05/2021 18:45

Yes running and since March also cycling. I do one or both every day. So takes up loads of my time

Wowcherarestalkingme · 08/05/2021 18:46

I quilt which can be all consuming as once I’m involved with a project the time just disappears but with two young boys at home I have to ration my sewing time. I know if they were more independent I would spend a lot more time behind my sewing machine though

MyBeloved · 08/05/2021 18:48

Horses.

Nothing more to say, really!

SinkGirl · 08/05/2021 18:52

Too many, all art / craft related. Fortunately all can by done at home :)

The main one is paper cutting - started about 10 years ago, then didn’t do it at all for a few years after I had my twins, now back to doing it a lot. Apart from selling my work, I have a little business selling paper cutting kits and templates for others as the designing part is the tricky bit - it’s so enjoyable and you don’t need to be able to draw.

Have been knitting and crocheting since I was almost 30 - before that I really hadn’t done any crafty stuff, and didn’t think I was creative at all. It’s so therapeutic and lovely to make something yourself.

Hiking/walking which is weather dependent.
Crochet and Redecor when I’m indoors!

nesfit · 08/05/2021 18:57

Dog showing and horses 🤗

beepbeepbonk · 08/05/2021 19:05

Horses. It's more than a hobby, more of an addiction really. In fact a crack habit would probably be cheaper.

Absolutely no interest in cycling I'm afraid! And I enjoy him being out of the house!

I do enjoy running, but I can't imagine doing it more than once or twice a week.

Maybe that's the problem - I like variety. I think I'd get bored doing the same thing lots of the time?

Horses definitely consume every single bit of your life!!!
Every time I try to leave the horse world I end up going back too Confused

CosyAcorn · 08/05/2021 20:56

Does playing Animal Crossing count? Because that's absorbing me for more hours than I thought possible.

My island is beautiful though! Grin

IHeartKingThistle · 08/05/2021 20:57

I'm a brass bander. It's not too time consuming apart from the 'big 3' - summer, Remembrance and Christmas. Which is quite a lot of the year to be fair Grin

wearetheweirdosmr · 08/05/2021 21:30

Does being involved in a uniformed youth group count?
It's only supposed to be an hour a week
Hahahahahahahah

shewalkslikerihanna · 08/05/2021 21:44

Dowsing,
Dowsing for energy lines
Dowsing for health. Dowsing for which homeopathic remedy to take
You know that stuff that’s not meant to take

shewalkslikerihanna · 08/05/2021 21:44

To work

Cherrysoup · 08/05/2021 21:45

Horses, not so much a hobby as a way of life. I was just sitting in his stable gazing at him gormlessly tonight. I adore his bones.

Seafog · 08/05/2021 21:46

I do have one of those all consuming hobbies, everyone knows I'm into it, people send me memes , and tag me in posts about it, gift me things to do with it

Annoy · 08/05/2021 21:49

Mountain biking, running, rock climbing, hill walking.

I’m doing atleast one of these a day. But I also do these activities for work.... so it’s CPD 🤣

Having previously had a horse, this made me giggle - I'm certain a crack habit would be cheaper! He was epic though.

Sports cars, photography (which is now my business), jewellery making/silversmithing, dance, mermaiding and watersports - I have expensive taste in hobbies Grin but I reckon most people would associate me with at least two of those things Grin

My most joyful hobby habit is trying new things and my worst is probably turning hobbies into businesses 😂

Numbersarefun · 08/05/2021 21:57

Art - all the time I’m looking at things and thinking about how I could paint/draw a representation - at home I’m doing it!!

I’m so jealous! What’s your job, if you’re able to say?
Gertie75 · 08/05/2021 22:41

I have two, I love gaming and spend most evenings doing it, I grew up with consoles starting from the original Atari and now have a Nintendo switch and Oculus Quest vr headset which I love, it's great for exercise too.

I also love photography.

TwoZeroTwoZero · 08/05/2021 22:44

I wouldn't call it all consuming but people who know me know I'm "into" photography. My mojo comes and goes but I usually do something photography at least a few times a week and occasionally go out for the day or the night with my camera and a fellow 'tog.

I do a lot of still-life stuff and am always re-editing my older work or planning a new set up which often means finding, buying or scavenging the props for it to work.
