Anyone in Hartlepool - what on earth is going on

Genuine question. (Apologies if this is in the wrong place, I don’t post much). I’m Scottish and in Scotland, and I am constantly aware these days of how different the views are of Westminster up here, to across the border sometimes. We also have our own Labour Party leader up here. But really? Is Keir Starmer that bad? Are other parties not available? Who on earth is still voting for Boris…? Any WHY?

In the general election it was a three horse race between Labour, Con and Brexit. Now the Brexit votes have gone to Cons so I’m
not surprised at the result

Because ordinary working people don't feel that the Labour Party represent them any more. My grandfather would be turning in his grave.

Because Labour have no policymakers, there is nothing from them to vote for.
So right now you vote Tory, or you don't vote.
The papers like to stir things, but even they can't magic a labour campaign from nothing.

If you don’t know the answer by now Labour are going to be in the wilderness for years and might even split in the next few years. They are a complete mess and full of a woke agenda. Starmer isn’t as bad as Corbyn but who could be but he isn’t strong enough.

They need to move back to the centre and where is the next Tony Blair?

Labour don't know what a woman is. Neither do LibDems. Or the Greens. It's a problem. I suspect the brexit effect is the driver though.

You need to move the question from "How could anyone vote for the Tories?" to "Where is Labour going wrong?".

Sadly the majority of Labour supporters (and I used to be one) seem incapable of this.

There are some good pieces in the press considering just this. See eg the Guardian. You will get much better-informed and more rounded analysis than here.

Because people have sucked up Brexit lies and they like the bumbling gobshite schtick. It's our trump. Labour are seemingly about middle class issues..don't like the word woke but you know what I mean.

The god awful right wing parties of the likes of farage and Griffin are dead but those voters have also turned to Tories.

We need PR voting to avoid becoming a one party state. Labour are finished.

Starmer was the one, who came up with the 2019 Labour pledge of a second referendum if Labour won the election. He pushed this through as Labour policy.

"You voted the wrong way so we'll try again". Can you not see how offensive this was to Brexit voters in former Labour voting areas?

I'm in London and voted Remain (though I've changed my mind on Brexit since then), but I can see that it will take a long time for Labour to be forgiven for the second referendum pledge.

Labour's love of divisive identity politics and wokeness are also good reasons not to vote for them. Frankly Labour deserves this good kicking from areas like Hartlepool.

The Labour Party is increasingly out of touch with voters due to woke identity politics and lack of clear policies and this is failing to engage their historical base.

I’m surprised the conservatives have won. Not because I assumed it would go to Labour, but because there were 16 candidates!
Will be interesting to see how much the vote was split.
It might just be that they crept in because so many people voted for all the alternatives and it split the vote too much.
