Interested to hear peoples opinions as opposed to the ever reliable tabloids 🙄

I really hope they make a distinction between countries and their islands. It's incredibly unfair if Spain and Greece have high mainland rates but the islands are incredibly low.

Kate3150 · 07/05/2021 07:49

They don’t seem to be saying much about the islands apart from FDCO advice that it’s safe to travel there now which they changed at the start of the week x

Me too! I’m desperate to go on the holiday we’ve booked so am definitely nervous about the announcement.
Ozgirl75 · 07/05/2021 12:28

I think Australia should be green, given how few cases we have.
Pointless though because even if we can get there, we can’t get back again without spending two weeks in quarantine.

MsWoolf · 07/05/2021 17:12

Well that’s really disappointing. Treating Greece as one block and ignoring the islands. Sad

Moonstone1234 · 07/05/2021 17:17

Sorry, there are 12 countries but he only mentioned a couple....

I heard that Turkey and the Maldives are on the Red List

Just seen they have included Australia and NZ. What a crock!! No one can go there so what is the bloody point. Are they just padding it out. No wonder he didn’t mention them by name. Makes Shapps look very stupid. Just don’t include them. There really aren’t 12 on the Green List. This is a repeat of last year.

Jobseeker19 · 07/05/2021 17:29

Where can we find the amber list?

BarbaraofSeville · 07/05/2021 17:35

The amber list is everywhere else. If it's not green and not red, it's amber.

Moonstone1234 · 07/05/2021 17:37

Don’t worry- the Green List has the South Sandwich Islands on

South Sandwich Islands have been uninhabited since 1982, but the islands and South Georgia have a combined average population of only 30 people. ... Approximately 67 percent of these temporary inhabitants live in Grytviken, South Georgia.

Moonstone1234 · 07/05/2021 17:38

Has he moved any countries out of the RED List?

IsabelleSE19 · 07/05/2021 17:43

Apparently it takes two weeks to get to St Helena, but at least you won't need to quarantine! Confused

Moonstone1234 · 07/05/2021 17:47

Can you go to the USA? Don’t see it on any list? Just trying to check and is the 3 week review from today or 17 May?

newnortherner111 · 07/05/2021 18:05

I was wrong.

The 12 countries are to all intents and purposes four- Portugal, Iceland, Gibraltar and Israel.

Moonstone1234 · 07/05/2021 18:09

This is just like last year. Add countries so the number looks less than four. You cannot visit those countries but don’t let that stop you adding them to the list!

Why UAE and Seychelles on the red list ? The Seychelles has a fantastic rollout. And adding South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands is just plain stupid

dreamingbohemian · 07/05/2021 18:10

That list is a joke! The South Sandwich Islands, come on.

roses2 · 07/05/2021 18:13

Today's announcement was disappointing especially after the gov website travel updates which included the Greek and Spanish Islands! I bet lots of people booked holidays there after the rumours.

Fuckingcrustybread · 07/05/2021 18:16

Portugal is green yaaaay 🍾🎉

BarbaraofSeville · 07/05/2021 18:18

You can walk round Gibraltar in about 3 hours and you'd have to hope your flight isn't one of the ones that not uncommonly gets diverted to Malaga, because that means you'd have to quarantine because you've been in Spain.
roses2 · 07/05/2021 18:19

Malta didn't make the list?? That's crazy!

Moonstone1234 · 07/05/2021 18:24

Tui has launched a COVID package of tests. Looks very reasonable. Might have a look. Doing 10 days quarantine doesn’t really bother me.

The last time I went aboard I did have to quarantine and was called by the CV19 checkers and told if I needed to go out for food ONLY I could (so I did).

USA is amber. Sad
Kate3150 · 07/05/2021 18:32

Government are treading carefully. The list was a lot shorter than I expected it to be

OP posts:
dreamingbohemian · 07/05/2021 18:35

Yes I am also very surprised how cautious it is

isthismylifenow · 07/05/2021 18:47

@Montsti

Unfortunately I’m pretty certain that South Africa, where I live with my husband and 4 young children will be on the red list🥲. I haven’t seen my parents for 15 months and my sister and friends for nearly 2 years...it’s probably going to be another year at best as things stand🥲🥲.
I suspect this as our numbers are creeping up again. But I heard a prof on 702 today and they say the 3rd wave isn't expected to be worse than the 2nd. Let's hope.
Moonstone1234 · 07/05/2021 18:49

Will the USA let me in? Don’t mind 10 day quarantine on the way back
