Stomach bug 34 weeks! Any tips?

I'm 34 weeks and have a stomach bug, I haven't been able to keep anything down since 12.30 yesterday. Any tips? I have both sickness and diarrhoea. The added issue is I have a temperature too!

Thats rough op, poor you. Maybe contact your midwife now for their advice? After 24hrs the real risk is dehydration as im sure you already know.

Isababybel · 06/05/2021 11:41

Could you try taking very very very small sips of a rehydration sachet?

TOWGA · 06/05/2021 11:43

Thanks @Isababybel I think I will give them a ring once I have hit 24 hours, I thought I was maybe getting somewhere but no I'm not! I'm so thirsty but just can't keep it down!

The last time i had a nasty bug i remember i couldn't keep a sip down either so i know how horrible it feels :( the good news is these bugs can be out of your system within 2 days so fingers crossed thats the case for you.
I wouldn't delay calling in case you can't get hold of her straight away, just say its bin 24hrs already.
I hope you have someone looking after you!

Ice lollies were good when i had a sickness bug and pregnant.

justasking111 · 06/05/2021 14:08

zero food for 24 hours, starve the bugger out. DS picked up a bug in Egypt, twelve weeks later he got this advice back in the UK. Take the rehydration sachets and starve.

Wallabyone · 06/05/2021 15:47

This happened to me when I was around 32 weeks and I felt dreadful, couldn't keep anything down at all. We called and they asked me to go in and I was actually admitted and put on iv fluids as I was so dehydrated. They were so kind, and took bloods etc. I had to stay in two nights whilst they checked what it was and because it took so long for me to be rehydrated.

I didn't want to go in at all, because I thought it was a bug that I should fight at home but when my husband saw me he insisted, and actually, he was right to do that so please get checked x

Ice lollies might be worth a shout at getting some water and sugars into you if you can, it must be awful, hope you feel better soon, and definitely ring the midwife if it doesn't

FoxyTheFox · 06/05/2021 16:07

10mls of dilute juice/squash every ten minutes and give maternity assessment a call as you may need to go in for a shot of anti-emetics and rehydration fluids.

TOWGA · 06/05/2021 16:24

I have spoken to midwife, they said keep sipping drink, they don't want me to go in atm, due to the fact they think Norovirus, good news is temperature has gone done, I did order a pcr test this morning, even though I knew the temperature was related to this. So will self isolate till that's done.

Waiting for a GP to call me back as I'm still being sick and diarrhoea and can't keep anything down and am starting to feel very dehydrated.

Isababybel · 07/05/2021 11:24

TOWGA · 07/05/2021 11:29

Yeah I'm being admitted to hospital

OP posts:
TheLovleyChebbyMcGee · 07/05/2021 11:59

Oh no!! But at least you will be feeling loads better very soon, and they will take very good care of you I'm sure!

Silvercatowner · 07/05/2021 12:20

Oh goodness poor you. You'll likely be given anti-emetics and rehydration - you'll feel loads better soon.

justasking111 · 07/05/2021 13:36

Glad you and baby are being admitted, you will be treated properly now

TOWGA · 08/05/2021 17:12

I'm gonna be in a few days, baby is fine, I have stopped being sick, but TMI I'm still having burning diarrhoea every few hours and that seems to be getting worse, on my 3rd bag of fluids!

OP posts:
aibutohavethisusername · 08/05/2021 17:31

Bless you. Hope you feel better soon. Glad to hear baby is ok.

TOWGA · 08/05/2021 17:45

I have sat here and cried this afternoon, I just want to feel better!

OP posts:
justasking111 · 08/05/2021 17:49

Oh bless you, hopefully they will do some tests so that they can isolate the bug. It sounds truly awful. My son had something like this from Egypt holiday. Never seen him so ill.

justasking111 · 10/05/2021 09:06

@TOWGA I hope you're feeling a lot better today

TOWGA · 10/05/2021 10:08

@justasking111 still not that good, still can't get rid of this diarrhoea, but the hospital are happy enough to send me home still with it!

OP posts:
amusedbush · 10/05/2021 12:26

I’m sorry to hear that, I had noro a couple of years ago and I felt like I was dying. I lost a stone in 5 days because I couldn’t keep anything down.

I hope you start to feel better soon, stomach bugs are miserable Flowers

justasking111 · 10/05/2021 12:33

NOROVIRUS is a demon but you have been poorly for quite a while, what do the midwives say? @TOWGA

TOWGA · 10/05/2021 12:35

@amusedbush I'm home now, I'm hoping now I'm home I can relax more, I'm confused as to what to do about work, I obviously can't go into work until the diarrhoea finishes/ 48 hours. I started symptoms on Thursday, would self certification, still be okay for the next 2 days? As I work Tuesday and Wednesdays?
