Is this meant to be our summer?

OP posts:
ComDummings · 04/05/2021 10:54

Yeah I’m already bored of it gahhh

Thecomfortador · 04/05/2021 10:54

Surely it's still spring? We've actually had very little rain recently so I don't begrudge a day or two (but not a whole season of rain).

PoTheDog · 04/05/2021 10:56

We've had such a dry April this year where I am. Rain for a few days is very welcome.

Writing off summer on the 4th May seems a but premature OP!

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/05/2021 10:57
  1. still spring
  2. we are still within our last frost dates here
  3. yes sick of it and the localised flooding
  4. not too fond of the wind neither.
Ostara212 · 04/05/2021 10:58

in London, it's the first rain we've had for ages!

SleepingStandingUp · 04/05/2021 11:01

It's May so no

TheChosenTwo · 04/05/2021 11:03

I’ve not seen rain for a while to be honest, a couple of days last week on and off. I’m not fussed about the odd day, it’s when it’s relentless week after week!
Plus my garden is currently out of bounds due to renovations for a couple of weeks so I’d be furious if it was actually lovely weather right now Grin

user1497207191 · 04/05/2021 11:04

A couple of days of rain after weeks/months of pretty dry/nice weather and people are already whingeing.

sadpapercourtesan · 04/05/2021 11:05

Yep, I'm thoroughly cheesed off with the rain Angry

It's buggering up my gardening plans. I have so much stuff growing in seed trays I'd need a greenhouse the size of Wales to protect it all from the rain, so I'm having to watch a lot of it drown. Grrrrrr.

NeedNewKnees · 04/05/2021 11:05

Hell no, I need more - the garden has been parched for a month. One of the driest Aprils on record.

TooManyAnimals94 · 04/05/2021 11:06

No! We've had nothing for weeks in the south east. Could do with it warming up a few degrees though so stuff can actually grow. There has barely been a hay crop for the last 3 years so prices keep going up and I have a foal due in 10 days and his/her mummy needs some grass!!

Woodpecker22 · 04/05/2021 11:08

We just have a bitter cold wind. It kept me awake most of the night and feels like winter still. I don't mind a bit of rain if it is over quickly and then brightens up but it is just so cold and dreary at the moment.

Amdone123 · 04/05/2021 11:09

I keep finding myself saying, Ne'er cast a clout til May is out.
I wondered what was meant by a clout, so I googled it. It's an olde word for a piece of clothing!
Everyday is a schoolday.

Goldenphoenix · 04/05/2021 11:09

No, my grass seed is loving it! It's been unnaturally dry so the garden needs it

BigWoollyJumpers · 04/05/2021 11:09

Blimey - No. We didn't have one drop all of April, we were considering getting the sprinkler out Shock. Thank god it rained last night, and in volume. My water buts have filled from empty to completely full. I am happy.

Quaversplease · 04/05/2021 11:12

Absolutely not. The garden was desperate. I can't remember the last time it rained.

SpottyOrange · 04/05/2021 11:23

Blimey, it's only rained for one day here, my garden was desperate!

NeedNewKnees · 04/05/2021 12:07

Translation - keep your coat on until the hawthorn (may) is in bloom (which means it's warm enough to risk leaving it at home)

Also used as - Keep your coat on until June

Wheesplat · 04/05/2021 12:09

That saying is very useful, even if we often have two day long summers in England!

mejon · 04/05/2021 12:11

Eh? Where are you? I'm in mid-Wales - the rain capital of... um, somwhere. Yesterday and today are the first days with prolonged periods of rain that we've had in weeks. We've had the odd shower here and there but it's been mainly unseasonably warm and sunny for most of April, although very cold overnight.

HillsBesideTheSea · 04/05/2021 12:14

North and its been fucking freezing with enough heavy downpours that I am sick of nearly being washed off the road with the flash flooding already this year. Shop in the village had to close this weekend due to flooding too.

3JsMa · 04/05/2021 12:15

Here in London we had no rain, yesterday was the first time when it rained properly(combined with strong winds).I'm more fed up with temperature as it feels so cold.

MintLampShade · 04/05/2021 12:15

It's only the beginning of May. Not supposed to be summer yet. May is typically a rainy month anyway and not sure where you are but where I am, it's barely rained over the past 3-4 weeks (if at all!!). And it's only been raining on and off since Saturday, with yesterday being the first proper rainy day.

lovelyupnorth · 04/05/2021 12:16

What rain. Rained yesterday which was needed.

Just cold today no rain. One shower on Saturday other than that been lovely but cold

niceupthedance · 04/05/2021 12:21

Not yet, but can it stop being so fucking cold?!
Coldest April since records began 🥶
