As a teenager I like listening to a certain rock band.
Just found their album on iTunes, downloaded and listened.
I was shocked. One of the songs - sung by grown men - ' she's a 13 yr tease , with bleach blonde hair. Let me eat your cookies , let me see your cookies '
Sat in the bath gob smacked. When I was 15 , this never made me question.

Has anyone else come across something that as a younger person it never crossed your mind but now it's a wtf moment

Little Britain

Not very long ago either

@ThankYouHunkyJesus

You should just get that deleted because you're a massive rape apologist not because it's the wrong thread.
You are wrong.
SpringtimeSummertime · 02/05/2021 07:37

@ThankYouHunkyJesus

Ooh just thought of another one. People saying that rape shouldn't be reported because it ruins men's lives.oh no wait, that still happens. Hmm
Again, wrong.

I recall that there were several teachers at my school who were picking off the students sexually. It was just sniggered about really. One of my female teachers complained about her male colleague and she got sacked. She WAS permitted to take the year 10 girls aside and warn us about the teacher before she left, but we all knew about him anyway. The Headmaster was known for sexually abusing the Head boys year after year. Even when one of them committed suicide in his home he was merely suspended.

(That headmaster is in jail now for procuring boys in Thailand. 30 odd years after I left school).

(None of this was in the UK b y the way);.

Our PE kits were awful! The skirts and gym knickers made me so uncomfortable. Having to shower naked after PE during puberty was the worst. Has this stopped now? I really hope so!
I also remember a girl I was at school with who was 16 having a boyfriend who was about 30 and her mum didn’t seem to mind. Wtf!?

Rowofducks · 02/05/2021 07:48

To all those questioning if Stan was meant to be funny. As a teenager all of us thought his songs were funny in a dark way and that’s why I thought they were meant to be funny. They didn’t make me feel uncomfortable back then.

Another thing I’ve thought of is our head teacher in secondary school used to make all the girls kneel in front of him to check their skirts were long enough. It used to make me feel so uncomfortable but at the time I thought it was normal. He’d often pick out certain girls in assembly and get them to do it in front of the school.

Sleeping Beauty.
16th birthday, time freezes for 100yrs, kissed awake and married that day.
I know that marriage was very young in the times of when those old tales were made up but
Confused

Well, you know that I'm a wicked guy
And I was born with a jealous mind
And I can't spend my whole life tryin'
Just to make you toe the line

You'd better run for your life if you can, little girl
Hide your head in the sand, little girl
Catch you with another man
That's the end, little girl

Let this be a sermon
I mean everything I've said
Baby, I'm determined
And I'd rather see you dead

The Beatles song run for your life Sad
Also Steve Tyler adopted one of his groupies when she was 16 and he was 25, got her pregnant and forced her to have an abortion at 5 months pregnant. While she was in labour, he was taking cocaine next to her when the nurse left the room. The baby was quickly taken away without her seeing him, but Steve later told her the baby had been alive 😢

Bruce Springsteen ‘I’m on fire’ 😳😳😳

My dd is 16 and loves that song. I can’t stand it I’ve never been a Beetles fan so hasn’t heard it until she started liking their music.
LadyCatLover2 · 02/05/2021 07:57

Billie Piper and Chris Evans

Everything about young Britney Spears. Fetishing school uniform (which they don't even wear in the US), and sexualising a girl of 16. There would be a very different reaction now.

Saved by the Bell. How many times did they dress 16 year old Kelly in a bathing suit? Creepy.

Gladimnotcampinginthisweather · 02/05/2021 08:06

Babysitting circles. Very popular in the 70s and 80s. A group of friends would set up a babysitting circle. You could ask anyone in the circle to babysit and payment was in tokens so no money changed hands. When you ran out of tokens you had to babysit to build up credit.
Sounds ok, but you had to be introduced by a member of the group to join. This meant that other members of the group, other than your friend, might not know you, and yet you would be babysitting their children for hours at a time. Mostly the women did the sitting, but sometimes the men did.
There was no DBS then, and quite often the members of the group just knew each other from the school gate and weren't friends as such.
It seemed like a good idea at the time, but in hindsight I can't imagine doing it now.

ElphabaTWitch · 02/05/2021 08:06

WAP. I know it’s not from my past but it really makes me uncomfortable and sickens me this is what our young kids are being exposed to. Where are the health/safety/fun killers/cancellers when you need them 😔

Poorlykitten · 02/05/2021 08:07

@SpringtimeSummertime what’s wrong with ‘I’m on Fire’? I think many of you have got the context of this song completely wrong...have you see the video? It’s about a woman with a sugar daddy surely?

Poorlykitten · 02/05/2021 08:08

Is that really true about Steve Tyler?

ElphabaTWitch · 02/05/2021 08:08

Benny hill. Lecherous creepy dirty old man who makes my skin crawl.

Hey little girl is your daddy home
Did he go away and leave you all alone
I got a bad desire
I'm on fire
Tell me now baby is he good to you
Can he do to you the things that I do
I can take you higher
I'm on fire
Sometimes its like someone took a knife baby
Edgy and dull and cut a six-inch valley
Through the middle of my soul
Ah...

Poorlykitten · 02/05/2021 08:15

Yes, it’s about a man in love with a rich woman who has a sugar daddy. In the video it’s very clear.

MagicSummer · 02/05/2021 08:18

I'm sorry to say I still love The Two Ronnies and Mind your Language because they are so funny and make me laugh! I hate modern so-called comedy with all the disgusting language and jokes about bodily functions - it just is not funny at all!

I also hate the way that normal words such as 'gay' and 'queer' have now had their meaning changed so that you cannot say anything is 'fun' or 'gay' any more. I am amazed that so many words have different, unsavoury connotations now - I often see words on here and have no idea what they mean - on looking them up I feel quite sad.

Maggiesfarm · 02/05/2021 08:24

I am well in my fifties and 'gay' has meant homosexual all my life (though obviously when I was a child I didn't hear or understand it). My cousin who is many years older than me first heard it as a young teenager so it isn't anything new. I never used the word, 'queer'.

When it comes to comedy programmes or dramas - or books - you have to put them in context. What was funny and/or acceptable then, is not now. That applies as much to Shakespeare and Dickens as anything else.

LadyCatLover2 · 02/05/2021 08:25

It's not the most wholesome of songs, but male rappers have been signing derogatory songs about sex and objectifying women for decades. That makes me much more uncomfortable.

poppycat10 · 02/05/2021 08:25

A very mild example but something that wouldn't happen now I am sure. When I was in sixth form approaching A levels (so we were mainly 18 and a couple 17) we went to our German assistant's flat for Sunday afternoon tea to practice speaking German before our A level exam. I guess she was only about 25 at most and probably a bit younger.

But you wouldn't do that now for safeguarding reasons.

poppycat10 · 02/05/2021 08:26

@Sunnyday321

When I was at school communal showers were obligatory and the P.E teacher would make us line up and tick off our name, we would then have to hold up our towel and go through the shower. The only time you got out of it was if you had a period. She would put a mark against your name to make sure it only happened once a month .
Oh because everyone has neat 4 weekly periods!

Yet another example of policing (young) womens' bodies. God PE teachers were horrible for the most part.

Angry
poppycat10 · 02/05/2021 08:28

I used to like the Two Ronnies. My mum wouldn't have Benny Hill on though.

But I find most so-called "comedy" embarrassing rather than funny.
