It has to be...

Higher than an average saloon as DH can't get out of them

Space for the occasional trip with 2 adults and a tween in the back (no car seat) - usual trips will be and adult and the child in the back

Manual

Potentially to fit a fold up wheelchair in the boot (I'm looking into the future here so it's not essential but would save changing the car again)

That's about it! Currently driving a VW Sharan which is too big for our family now, although it does tick all the boxes it's knocking on a bit so before it starts to cost more money I think downsizing is the best bet.

What do you all have?

I’ve got a Honda Civic which I really like but would be too low so maybe try the HRV?

Tinty · 29/04/2021 21:39

Renault Scenic or Grand Scenic. Reliable, lots of room and comfortable or for a bit more money a Peugeot 3008.

RandomMess · 29/04/2021 21:41

Suzuki Vitara?

Standrewsschool · 29/04/2021 21:41

Seat Alhambra, or is that too big?

LubaLuca · 29/04/2021 21:46

VW T-Roc could be an option. It's roughly the same size as a Golf externally but is higher and has more space inside.

Ylvamoon · 29/04/2021 21:47

VW Touaran. We are on our 3rd! Smaller than a Sharan but still spacious and versatile.

LavendulaAngustifolia · 29/04/2021 21:52

Citroen berlingo. Its like a van with windows and extra seats.

LarsErickssong · 29/04/2021 21:55

If you are happy with your VW I would go for a T-roc or a Seat Ateca if you were to change brands

LarsErickssong · 29/04/2021 21:56

Also a Mazda CX-3, Japanese so will last forever!

CarolinaWeeper · 29/04/2021 21:57

Ford C Max

BluTangClan · 29/04/2021 22:08

Skoda Yeti.

These look like nice cars, I have never had a Honda before but I will add it to the list

The scenic might fit the bill, the grand or the 3008 are probably too big!

Suzuki Vitara?
I don't think I have ever noticed these, I will take a look though. Had a quick google and they look quite big but it's hard to tell without a proper look

What about a Ford ecoboost?

rainbowthoughts · 29/04/2021 22:12

@Standrewsschool

Seat Alhambra, or is that too big?
It's the same as the VW Sharan I have Grin

Suzuki Vitara. I love ours. Higher up, big boot and economical.

rainbowthoughts · 29/04/2021 22:13

@LubaLuca

This is exactly what I'm looking for I think!

I barely recognise cars by their names now as they are all so different.

Adding this to the list as well, sounds good

I actually have the identical Peugeot partner as a business vehicle - it does fit the bill, but I want a bit more car and less van for the personal car.

Definitely going to look at the T roc

And Mazda, I think they are worth a look

VW Tiguan or Seat Ateca. They’re both the same car just a different badge. BMW 220 Active Tourer or an X1.

I’ve got mobility problems. All of the above cars are great for me wrt to getting in and out. I can fit a manual wheelchair in them all and a mobility scooter would fit in all of them, with the back seats down, apart from the X1

Pheebs2021 · 29/04/2021 22:18

There's also the T Cross which I believe is slightly small than the Roc if the cross was a bit big.

rainbowthoughts · 29/04/2021 22:18

I can't keep up!

Thanks everyone for the ideas. I'm doing a list of potentials to look at online and stalk round car parks before shortlisting what to view.
