If you can buy a 3 bed detached house in a countryside area (not on an estate) for £450K or less near good or outstanding secondary schools, where do you live? and would you recommend your location?

Bramham near Wetherby (in between Leeds and York), and tbh most of the villages around the area. Semi rural but easy drive into those cities.

Most of Wales! I live in Abergavenny, good schools, lovely countryside, nice sized town and 30 mins on train to Cardiff.

Seriously? Most of the country I'd have thought.

Some parts of Buckinghamshire - grammar school county if that's appealing?

Lots in Devon

South Sheffield/north Nottinghamshire. Outstanding schools 20 mins away

I live in Northumberland- Morpeth, Whitley Bay and Gosforth all have outstanding secondaries and you’d easy get a 4 bed detached for that sort of money.

Returnoftheowl · 27/04/2021 21:28

All of Norfolk.

I've just found a seven bed in the local village that leaves you with change... (Its very nice looking, must be a compromise in there somewhere. Traffic noise maybe? And a bit short on bathrooms Vs bedrooms. )

Cornwall. Even with the surge in prices

I'd second Northumberland and North Tyneside. Great places to live.

Came on to say the same.

Yep, seriously.
I’m Hertfordshire - can’t even buy a semi in my town for that. We managed to buy a 3 bed terraced, a grand total of 714 square feet of space - it’s shit.

After a number of years here we are looking at moving in the next couple and our main criteria is detached not on an estate.

Thank you so much for all these suggestions. It’s so hard when all your family live in the same place as you do and you really have no idea where to start looking.

For that budget, most of Scotland!

ILoveMyMonkey · 27/04/2021 21:41

Loving the Northumberland suggestions, we are off on holiday there in the summer so will definitely look at it from a moving point of view 👍.

Rural South Yorkshire

PoppityBoo · 27/04/2021 21:42

South Derbyshire. Small rural village, good primary and secondary schools, great open spaces nearby. £450k would get you a decent sized 4 bed detached in my village.

carlycornwall · 27/04/2021 21:44

3000 sq ft of space here for less than that Shock

A 3 bed on sale up the road for £330k currently but I don't expect it will still be available by the weekend. The market is insane.
