Isn't it about time they found a cure for athlete's foot?

I am completely bored of it. No treatment does anything but keep it a bay.Sad

Are you treating all your footwear? Wearing clean cotton socks with your shoes? Have you kept treating after the symptoms have gone?

AnnaMagnani · 27/04/2021 19:08

Have you used the 'Once' creams? I found that anything else was useless.

And you need all your shoes to dry out and be used on rotation.

redcandlelight · 27/04/2021 19:10

are you washing your feet with soap/shower gel?
dry your feet & between and toes after shower/bath?
fresh socks every day?
bedding washed hot?

Margaret Dabbs foot hygiene cream got rid of mine.

amylou8 · 27/04/2021 19:20

I first got it when I was pregnant with DS1 23 years ago! I don't think I've ever managed to clear it for more than a few months at a time. However foot, shoe and sock hygiene festidious I am... whatever lotions and potions get thrown at it...back it comes sooner or later.

Yup, this is basically my experience.

I’ve suffered from it regularly since I was a child. I had a really bad bout recently. It was so bad I could have chopped my toes off!

ElvenDreamer · 27/04/2021 19:26

Few drops of tea tree oil in some coconut oil, keep in a jar in your bathroom. Gets rid super fast and stays away lots longer in my experience.

SamanthaJayne4 · 27/04/2021 19:29

I put medicated talcum powder in between my toes. Not a cure but keeps it at bay a bit and stops the itching. I use the Superdrug one. It's about £1. I have seen some at £4!

ILoveShula · 27/04/2021 19:31

Can someone try the Vick's and report back here please.
Everything I try including tea tree oil and every ointment or spray seems to make between my toes more sore.

FinallyFluid · 27/04/2021 19:35

I have very mild athlete's foot, I use Vicks, it works for me.

redcandlelight · 27/04/2021 19:36

sure it's athlete's foot and not pompholyx eczema?

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 27/04/2021 19:37

Foot specialist here, vicks will do nothing, might make your feet smell nice though!
The only active ingredient to kill the fungus is terbinafine. Op wash and dry your feet, get a pack of Lamisil ONCE , do not use any other product must be exactly this. Divide the pack between both feet and rub in and around feet to area as if you are wearing a shoe liner, let this dry. Leave without wetting for 24 hours. You should be done. You may need to repeat within 6 months. Do you have a fungal nail OP?

Tulipomania · 27/04/2021 19:39

Lamisil Once works for me.

Follow the directions on the packet.

Weirdly I only ever get it on my right foot, so don't know how infectious it is really, but this treatment always keeps it at bay for at least 6 months.

Why are you putting tea tree oil on your feet? At best this has a mild antiseptic effect, it is not an anti fungal, it can make things worse if you react to it.
seven7sisters · 27/04/2021 19:43

Yes I can share something!

This Imperial stuff is amazing. I suffer really badly with AF sometimes and want to scratch my feet off. This has worked wonders since January. I did get an itch last week on one toe and was gone in 12hrs with this.

Lamisil once should be called 'lamisil once a month' admittedly it is a bit better than the daktarin.
No where seems to sell athlete's foot powder any more which was good to use on your socks.

Yup! Tried everything and had it for years weirdly on just one foot never spreads to anyone else in house or even my other foot, So weird. When it flares up it gets bad and blisters on my feet then it'll go down a bit. It's so odd but yes treatment never fully gets rid of it always comes back. And yes I've tried it all and keep good hygiene. I can never go for a foot massage because of it and I love those!

Do have a fungal nail infection? If so that explains why once doesn’t work for you.
EscapeTheCastle · 27/04/2021 19:47

Wowlikeireally....Advice for fungal nail? Not sure where to turn for help with thus as it's a new problem for me .

EspressoExpresso · 27/04/2021 19:50

Have you been to your GP? I'd be requesting samples taken to confirm it wasn't something else

user1471530109 · 27/04/2021 19:50

OP I am another sufferer but only on one foot. To make things worse no GP will prescribe anything because I'm a type 1 diabetic. The podiatrist says it's cosmetic so also useless! I have all my nails infected on that one foot and had a toe nail removed due to it.

My toot is a bloody mess and I feel defeated. I currently have it fairly aggressively and I'm trying to treat with 2% daktarin. Lamisil once was bloody useless. They all seem to have different ingredients in. Maybe its worth investigating which one works on which fungus? I don't have the peeling skin at the moment. But sore red rash.

I hate the summer footwear. My right foot is perfect and it really really pissed me off!

WowIlikereallyhateyou · 27/04/2021 19:50

I am wondering if some posters actually have athletes foot or something else. Eczema/bacterial skin infections etc all look like athletes foot and would not therefore respond to treatment. Also if any of you have a fungal nail this will lead to the continuing reoccurrence of athletes foot.

You need to visit a better podiatrist if that is the advice you are getting! The single best treatment for fungus is terbinafine. Sounds more like complications from the diabetes causing the further issues to me.
