Will I regret downsizing from superking bed

We’ve had a superking bed for 12 years now and I love the fact that DH and I have so much space!

But I don’t love changing the sheets and would like a bit more space in the bedroom.

Kids are pre teens now but still sneak in during night or in morning occasionally and it’s nice to be able to sit in there together and watch a film or something.

But the base is falling apart and we need to replace it and have thought about swapping it for a king size.

Any experiences?

I can't answer this as I wouldn't give mine up for anyone or anything Grin

IntergalacticP · 28/04/2021 00:43

Honestly? I think you would. I don't think we could go back now even though the bed does dominate the room a bit

Anordinarymum · 28/04/2021 01:08

Don't do it. You will regret it

Don't do it. I had a superking before seperating and now have a double. My partner and I roll together at mine and sleep far better at theirs in their superking. Sleep space beats floor space.

pallisers · 28/04/2021 01:20

that's so funny. Dh and I hate sleeping in king sized beds when we rent places. We have a queen (all measurements are US - suspect King is super king and queen is king),

I think you should stick to what you like/are used to. Why change?

CaroleFuckingBaskin · 28/04/2021 01:23

Do not do this.

safariboot · 28/04/2021 01:24

Probably. It's a full foot narrower after all. On the other hand for a fixed budget, a step down in size could allow a step up in mattress quality.

I0NA · 28/04/2021 01:27

Don’t do it.

Aquamarine1029 · 28/04/2021 01:39

Why would you do this? Madness.

DeedledeDee · 28/04/2021 01:42

I have 2 singles pushed together.
Gives plenty space and bed changing is easier. A whole duvet to myself too !
You can get the 2 duvets in matching patterns for smart look.
I have heard people doing similar by putting 2 doubles together,if you have room that is

MildDrPepperAddiction · 28/04/2021 01:44

I'm 5'1" and I'd happily change the bedding on our superking daily rather than give it up! Couldn't go back to a double now.

Susannahmoody · 28/04/2021 02:12

Oh god no no no no

DifficultBloodyWoman · 28/04/2021 02:16

You can never go back!

FiveGs · 28/04/2021 04:14

It's a no from me too

Iamtooknackeredtorun · 28/04/2021 04:39

Had a super king for 20 years. New one arriving on Saturday. I sleep alone!

mammmamia · 28/04/2021 04:52

Always change the sheets together before bed. Much easier.

upupandawaytoday · 28/04/2021 04:56

I'm newly divorced so sleeping alone and I'm still not planning to downsize from my beloved super king lol

HollyBollyBooBoo · 28/04/2021 05:48

I did this when I moved house, went from super king to king. BIG mistake. Just can't justify the cost of changing it yet though.

DurhamDurham · 28/04/2021 06:13

Don't do it, we'd never give ours up. When we're away staying with friends, family or in hotels we always feel cramped in a double or king. We stayed in one hotel and the bed was so small we literally were back to back and husband's feet kept touching mine........I was most put out Grin

It is a pain changing the bedding but worth it I think.

Goingtogetflamed · 28/04/2021 06:22

Is it the bedding rather than the size that’s the issue? Do you have well fitting sheets etc? Maybe you can get some tips here? I would not be giving up my super king without a fight.

ArtemisBean · 28/04/2021 07:26

Oh my goodness, DH and I (and often DD) have a double and I'd sell my soul for a super king!! Definitely upgrading to a king at least when current mattress is due for renewal next year.

Roselilly36 · 28/04/2021 08:56

No way could we go back, had superking for 20+ years, even a king size seems small when we stay at a hotel, and a double for us is impossible to get any sleep. I think you would regret it and YABU to even consider it OP Grin

DifficultBloodyWoman · 28/04/2021 09:00

DH and I will divorce before we go back to a double bed!

TBH, I wouldn’t object to getting the next size up when we next need to buy a new bed (at least 5 years off though).

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 28/04/2021 09:37

IMO a king would probably be OK, but not a standard double. They feel so cramped if you’re used to more space. Ours is in between a king and a super-king (base bought in a sale ages ago) and nowadays I truly dread having to sleep in a standard double.
When we absolutely had to spend a night in a hotel last September, and I couldn’t find anywhere with a king, I booked a room with 2 singles.

fairislecable · 28/04/2021 09:42

I hate changing the sheets on our super king, so on laundry day I remove the sheets and then we put clean ones on together.

It’s not such a chore when there is someone else on the other side.
