I always wonder if people experience instruments in the same way. For me - piano for story telling, violin for emotions. What’s your favourite?

So beautiful!

I love the piano but agree with you about violin. Probably because I regret giving up learning to play it.

Love piano because it can be so versatile.

Love cello when it's a bit of melancholic music.

Oboe. Love it. Here, give your ears a treat.

Viola. Deeper and smoother than violin.

Woodwind in general. (Although not bothered about Sax in a lot of stuff)

jclm · 24/04/2021 19:20

This is a hard question for me to answer. All instruments are special but they each have their own way of demonstrating emotion through the music. Surely it's more about the music itself and how the composer has orchestrated the piece and how the instrument interacts with the other instruments rather than the sound of the instrument per se? For instance in some pieces I love the French horn but in Mozart I can't stand the sound of the French horn because I can't stand Mozart!!

Upthroughthenight · 24/04/2021 19:24

The harp. So beautiful.

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 24/04/2021 19:26

Love hearing the Saxaphone. Maybe a strange one but I absolutley the sound of bagpipes being played .

Swingoutsistersledge2 · 24/04/2021 19:27

SlothWithACloth · 24/04/2021 19:29

I love everything except a violin. Really can’t stand violins but my favourite is saxophone.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 24/04/2021 19:32

I love a steel pan band.

OrchidFlakes · 24/04/2021 20:00

I love the oboe but also the human voice, especially a tenor

MWNA · 24/04/2021 20:08

The pedal steel guitar.

TheTurn0fTheScrew · 24/04/2021 20:08

oboe as well.
For the other oboe-fanciers, there was a fabulous recital by Oliver Stankiewizc on Radio 3 on Monday - here

Fauvist · 24/04/2021 20:18

The violin by miles. I also love the double bass played with a bow.

Worst instrument is the flute. It hurts my head.

BathshebaKnickerStickers · 24/04/2021 20:47

DD2 plays the flute. Beautiful

CarpeVitam · 24/04/2021 21:15
