Or is it something after a while you take for granted?

Yes, I run every day either on the beach or on the promenade depending on the tide. Weekends I’m usually there twice as I take a walk with DC. I don’t tend to sit on the beach much as it’s too busy atm, but when things start to get a bit quieter I probably will.

PinkBuffalo · 24/04/2021 16:54

I am walking distance and also grew up here. I love it! Feels so free with big sky etc
When I am somewhere not near the sea I really miss it I do not think I take it for granted I am there all the time 🙂

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 24/04/2021 17:07

We live in an island and go to a beach nearly every day even the weather is warm and about three times a week otherwise. Yes, I realise that we are really lucky to be able to do this.

Mushypeasandchipstogo · 24/04/2021 17:07

On not in

@LieLikeALoungeroomLizard

Are the seagulls very noisy or bothersome ?
Yes they bloody are. The roofs of all 7 houses in our cul de sac are artificial cliffs at this time of the year. Squawking and scrambling about from about 5am in very noisy mating rituals. Luckily they nest elsewhere
romdowa · 24/04/2021 17:10

When I lived by the sea , we went to the beach quite often all year round. Mainly as one of our dogs loves to swim.

LadyCatStark · 24/04/2021 17:42

We’ve walked along the sea front every bloody day for over a year now but in normal times we totally take it for granted! It doesn’t feel like a day out when you’ve walked there in 10 mins! Plus it’s always bloody windy...

Chatanooga1 · 24/04/2021 17:52

I used to live a hop, skip and a jump from the sea when my children are young but we used to only go on the beach in the summer early in the morning before crowds gathered from 10 o’clock onwards.

It was great during the autumn and winter though.

chickadeeee · 24/04/2021 17:56

Live five mins from sea, never go to beach or walk the prom Sad

Always windy Grin

Really do not appreciate it Shock

Where about are you looking to move to?

Pamelaaaaa · 24/04/2021 18:26

It really would depend on what you intend using the beach for and which beach.

I lived for all of my childhood and a decade of adulthood at the seaside. I honestly think there are people who lived 2 hours away who probably visited the beach more often than me.

I actually love the sea and living next to the edge of the earth and use to drive along regularly but sand, no thanks. It gets EVERYWHERE.
It's frequently freezing cold, windy or too sandy for my liking.

I hate having sand on everything and being covered in it.

The prom was the best bit. 2 miles of very wide pavement essentially, with a view, to cycle/walk along.
But when it's windy that means being sandblasted in the face and when it's summer it's crazy busy.

You'd basically get 5 perfect days a year.

I was hesitant moving away from the coast since so many people move towards them but I'm not so grateful I live near a forest with rivers etc.

I appreciate that far more than the beach.

insancerre · 24/04/2021 19:21

@Pamelaaaaa
I grew up in a forest
I really miss it
I would swap my beach for a forest
This is where I grew up versus where I live now
I miss the smells and sounds of the forest

Seagull shit in our cars is a pita but baby seagulls are cute!!

Pamelaaaaa · 24/04/2021 21:41

insancerre the forest is just lovely isn't it?
I never went to forests as a kid. None were near and we lived by the beach. I'm so grateful of the forest now. So much more nature. Forests and countryside are so good for your soul. As is looking at/ hearing the sea. Most often though you can't enjoy that as it's too busy. The beach though. Pointless.

Ladybigbeach · 24/04/2021 21:42

Everyday, I swim in the sea and if I’m not swimming I’m walking the dog down there. I live about 2 miles away.

echt · 24/04/2021 21:47

I live ten-minute walk from the sea, but am more likely to take the five-minute drive to the dog beach to give the pooch a bathe.

I can't remember when I last stayed on the beach, but that's because I keep an eye on my dog.

HelplessProcrastinator · 24/04/2021 21:55

We're walking distance from the seafront but 30 minutes drive to actual beach. We go at least once a week in the summer but will usually go later when the crowds have headed home. Because it's close we don't feel the need for a whole day. We have two lidos and regularly swim in those. Never, ever get bored of the sea views and would not move away from the coast.

flower11 · 24/04/2021 21:56

We live 20 min walk from the beach. I took the kids there loads during lockdown. Not so much now. I prefer it in winter when its wild rugged and not very busy. I like to walk and look in the rock pools rather than sit and relax. Currently going about once a week for a walk.

Come to Northumberland you can have both 😍

Hellocatshome · 24/04/2021 22:08

I live 5 minute walk from the beach and I dont have time to go! The kids are down there with their friends all the time though.

CatalinaCasesolver · 24/04/2021 22:08

30 seconds walk and yes we go down almost every day in summer

itstrue · 24/04/2021 22:10

I'm about 100 meters from the beach. If I didn't walk my dog I'd never go!

Tomatobear · 24/04/2021 22:11

We're about 7-10 min drive away and don't go more than every month or two. Normally for a dog walk and not for a day out. Too windy. We never go in summer because it's rammed and dogs are banned then.

It also depends on how touristy it is. It's fine if you live within easy walking distance. If not, you might not go very often because it'll be gridlocked and you'll have to fork out for parking.

Lollypop4 · 24/04/2021 22:12

We have about 5 beaches within 5miles, we go almost daily in the holidays and weekends when sunny or reasonable weather.
This week, we've been 3x , going tomorrow and monday too.
So fortunate to live where we do.
Its my childhood area and as children , we were also always at the beach!

Cheermonger · 24/04/2021 22:13

20 min walk to beach, I go every single weekday with the dog before work, go to different beach depending be on time of year and which bay the sun rises in! It’s glorious
