So Johnson and Cummings are at each other’s throats. Anyone else think that it’s karma for them being such self serving, conniving, utter shit weasels last year? It’s so fitting that they are self destructing their own abominable empire.

United they stood, divided they fall.

My only worry is that because people dislike DC so much that Johnson will get away with it.

I live in hope that DC has loads more to tell us and can't wait.

'A bit of shiny pink scalp'
Arghhh🙈 please stop I don't want to think about Johnson's shiny pink head 😳🤣🤭

GreyhoundG1rl · 24/04/2021 14:22

Johnson deserves whatever comes at him so no sympathy there; but Cummings is such a little scut I'm amazed he got the position he got in the first place.
He even looks like he belongs down the local skate park with the teenagers.

Eskarina1 · 24/04/2021 14:31

I don't want to think about Johnson's shiny pink ANYTHING

VaVaGloom · 25/04/2021 09:10

What amazes me is that there are still people who don’t think this Government are corrupt

Confusing!

Angela Rayner on Andrew Marr just now mentioned the sum of £200,000 in relation to the renovation of the PM's flat and lack of transparency.

[Marr confirmed that the PM receives £30,000 annually for accommodation out of the public purse.]

But Liz Truss, when pushed by Marr, would not confirm or deny whether the renovation costs above the £30,000 were met by a party donor (this would have tax implications) or not and kept saying BJ was focused solely on the pandemic.

Certainly not a transparent situation and let's hope Labour succeed in their call for an enquiry.

And it may be worth noting that Carrie has allegedly been accused of unjustified expense claims before, although she said she was a victim of a smear campaign in this regard.

According to Wikipedia;

"Symonds became the Conservative Party's head of communications in 2018,[11] but left the position later that year,[2] taking up a job in public relations for the Oceana project.[12][10] It was reported that she was asked to leave her post as director of communications after sources claimed party chiefs had said her performance was poor, and questions were raised over significant unjustified expenses claims.[13][6] These accusations were, however, rejected by other sources as being a smear campaign based around rumours allegedly spread by Johnson's political strategist, Lynton Crosby.[14][15]"

Horacetheexplorer · 25/04/2021 10:20

Meant to add that some papers reported that both CS and Tory HQ signed a non disclosure agreement regarding the terms of her resignation or sacking.

Not exactly transparent either!

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/04/2021 10:58

Meh! I was listening to the words used by all of the reporters yesterday - possible, suggested, might have, considered, thought about. Nothing concrete. Just a spin doctor spinning.

And that's why, no matter how corrupt, morally bankrupt Johnson might be, Cummings won't be able to bring him down. He just doesn't have anything other than conversations he might remember, a feeling that this is what was said. Exactly the same as the last parliamentary committee he as speaking to. All flummory and twaddle. Nothing concrete. That may be cunning on Johnsons part, or it may be sour grapes on Cummings part. Or it might all just be par for the course and we just never hear about it until someone has an axe to grind - all parties.

And I doubt St Keir will get any further even if he does manage to get a different enquiry. He too is master of rhetoric, full of bluster and little else.

Which pisses me off mightily!

paralysedbyinertia · 25/04/2021 11:22

Just watching the news about a survey on Sky News, which found that Boris Johnson is far less likely to be considered "clean and honest" than Keir Starmer and far more likely to be considered "corrupt", but approval ratings for the two are exactly the same. Which just underlines the fact that people don't seem to care about Boris's lack of integrity. They don't trust him, but they approve of him anyway.

The mind boggles.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/04/2021 11:26

It's the fight between charm and smarm, isn't it?

I wouldn't trust either of them to be honest, but for quite different reasons.

Horacetheexplorer · 25/04/2021 11:40

I wouldn't be at all surprised if Cummings has more on BJ. But it would probably implicate them both!

Lampzade · 25/04/2021 11:41

The day that Cummings left Downing Street with his boxes , through the front door in full view of the press I knew that he was a man hell bent on revenge
Both he and Boris are thoroughly unpleasant tools and I intend to enjoy every moment of their fall out

You are probably right! It must piss him, Cummings, off to know what he could do if he chose mutual destruction!
BlueTiles · 25/04/2021 11:48

I can't believe this is the only thread I can see about Cummings.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/04/2021 11:55

I know! I came to start one because I hadn't seen one - I was out all day yesterday and was pondering what I had heard reported.

I had to do a search to find this!

I wondered if there is a "Cry Wolf" effect? We all knew he was lying about his actions last year, so can we believe him now? How do we decide when he might be telling the truth? Best just ignore him!

LizzieSiddal · 25/04/2021 12:00

I agree that it’s so disappointing there isn’t more discussion about this on MN.
I suppose Johnson is right when he said on
Friday “The public don’t care”. Makes me so angry that our country has come to this, he knows he can get away with his lying and incompetence.

Sadly, I think he is absolutely right. The public don't care, and so he knows he can get away with it. Whatever Cummings knows, Boris thinks it won't touch him. And to be fair, he is probably right.

How I would love him to be proved wrong, though!

Miasicarisatia · 25/04/2021 12:13

he knows he can get away with his lying and incompetence
It's populist leader 101 isn't it, he's just a version of trump🙄

lljkk · 25/04/2021 12:32

If Cummings wants future power, he has to be closely allied with people who can win elections. Why choose to show himself as such a snake in the grass. I just didn't have him pegged as someone who would let personal grudges get in way of his crazy Change-the-World-by-Destroying it ideals.

Unless he wants to become allied with... I dunno who. Nobody likes the guy, they just sometimes think they need him!! Does he just want to become an ageing crank who writes weird blogs and hopes to stir up extremists in the populace and then hope he can get close to power by allying with those future nutters -- I don't believe that's his game.

But easy to beleive it is all a distraction from journalists asking about David Cameron, J-Dyson, etc.

Never attribute to personal animosity what can be easily explained by benefits in creating a huge distraction

: that is how to understand Trumpian maneuvres. Although the 'shiny thing!' distraction method maybe was first highlighted by conservatives about Obama Administration.

BlueTiles · 25/04/2021 12:42

Also disappointed there isn't a single thread I can see about India, though I understand it is too much to read for many.

BlueTiles · 25/04/2021 12:43

Meant to add, it is noticable how we have (mostly) become very insular.

CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/04/2021 13:08

That's been pretty much the state of politics in the UK for a couple of decades..., actually, reluctantly remembering Thatcher, even longer!
CuriousaboutSamphire · 25/04/2021 13:10

I think Johnson was the last bridge to burned, @lljkk

Cummings was disliked by many on the Tory party. I think he may be lining himself up with jobs being a political commentator, a mover, shaker, elsewhere - the US perhaps!

He'll have a long game. His sort always do!

VaVaGloom · 25/04/2021 13:10

In the face of massive public disapproval of Cummingsgate last year Johnson said ‘move on’ to the public and it worked. Why would he stop using that tactic? At the moment his popularity is linked with enthusiasm for the vaccine rollout but that won’t last forever.

At least we don’t have to see them smirking alongside each other anymore. If they keep smearing each other something may eventually stick. Dishonour amongst thieves.
