Kids playing outside

Trying not to be a grouch, what time do people feel is acceptable for kids (10/15 maybe around the age 10ish?) playing outside in the evening, shouting and loud singing, sometimes with whistles.

you must live in some weird gated community out in the sticks past the back of beyond if you have never seen children playing out in Britain
..............
I know that wasn't directed at me but, I doubt there is anyone who has never seen children 'playing out', by which I presume you mean in the street, in Britain.

I've seen it in some places when out and about but I do not see it where I live or in surrounding roads, and I live in a London suburb. Definitely not gated or remote.

My late dad, who was born and brought up in a flat in the East End, played in the street as a child, football, box carting, etc. He had no garden and it was quite usual to do it there and then.

Some of the messages on here are a right eye opener.

Kids have a right to use public space too. And independent outdoor play is developmentally really valuable.

I agree with seeingdots.

I was quoting another poster.

However my own DC did play out along with most of the neighbouring DC, in the great metropolis. The inhibitor was traffic on some roads, but on quieter roads it was still a regular sight.

Honestly, does it really matter that much as long as there's no nuisance?

Maggiesfarm · 24/04/2021 15:26

Stop calling people 'trolls'! You did that with me last night and I was only giving my opinion. Do you know what 'trolling' means in an internet context? It's quite insulting actually.

PS: I should have said, 'somebody' did that with me last night, not a generic 'you'.

So to conclude children having too much screen time is a Bad Thing.

Children playing in the street pisses people off.

Children playing in their own gardens annoys neighbors off too!

🙄

IceSwallowCome · 24/04/2021 15:51

"Lots of people drink and drive - the majority don’t die or kill anybody. That doesn’t negate the fact drinking and driving is high risk. Anecdotes don’t outweigh evidence. I’m delighted yours have done well; many don’t."

How are these two even vaguely related? Is being allowed to play outside the gateway drug to drink driving? Even by your own lofty standards, this is some delusional bullshit.

@bonbonours

pandemic laws and guidance (including lockdown) varies a lot in different geographies - so don't assume something is law breaking without knowing the geography.

lalafafa · 24/04/2021 16:04

just tell them to bugger off, or put something on top of your wall.

In all cases it is best to buy ear defenders and keep the curtains closed , especially during good weather :-).

My children play out (small village in Ireland) as do all the other local children. We bring them in by 8pm and would bring them in earlier if they were blowing whistles.
