Stop me from breaking my diet

Please!

I've been so good for 3 weeks but I've only lost a measly 9lbs. I'm doing everything right (I could practically write a book) and eating to my TDEE calories and walking 10K steps a day but it's so SLOW and right now I just want to eat chocolate and order a pizza.

However I know I'll regret this in the morning so please help me stay strong. Just shout at me or something

You're thirsty, not hungry! Down a pint of water/squash/whatever and know that 9lb is incredible in 3 weeks!

minipie · 21/04/2021 17:51

9lbs in 3 weeks is great!

Go have a glass of water or cup of tea.

You’ll feel so much better later if you stick to it.

CherryChapsticks · 21/04/2021 17:51

@AtLeastThreeDrinks even though most of that was in the first two weeks?

You're right though. I'm not drinking enough water so I've poured out half a litre right now

Cravings can be very strong can't they? Overwhelmingly so.

Weight loss is always faster in the first couple of weeks. It's making sustainable changes that'll keep it dropping off and help you maintain it. And staying hydrated is key –always have a drink first when you feel hungry and see how you feel afterwards. Good luck with it!

StrawberryFizz26 · 21/04/2021 17:54

9lb in 3 weeks is bloody amazing.
Have a big drink of water and a small treat.

You can do it!! What have you been eating?

Floraflower3 · 21/04/2021 17:55

To keep it sustainable, why not have some pizza and chocolate but limit the amount? You could have half a supermarket pizza (or a pizza where you know the cals) and have a chocolate bar but just plan it into your day!

ChunkyMonkey2020 · 21/04/2021 17:57

I know this feeling. I'm calorie counting and some days are hard.

Marks and Spencer's do pizzas that are under 400 calories. And they are really nice. I keep a couple in my freezer for them sort of days.

Floraflower3 · 21/04/2021 17:57

Leggero pizzas from pizza express are lovely and light (I think all under 600 cals)

CherryChapsticks · 21/04/2021 17:59

@StrawberryFizz26 I carefully worked out my calories so I don't just pluck a figure out of the air and I always eat to calories each day - 1363! A typical day for me would be ...

Full fat Greek yogurt
Berries /other chopped fruit
Chia seeds
Tiny bit of protein powder

Pitta filled with salad or roasted veg & feta OR a large salad with hummus
Bag of crisps or small handful of nuts

Energy type ball / bar
Fresh fruit like melon

Noodles or stir fry for dinner

So that kind of thing really

I think I may do a home made pizza tomorrow. You've inspired me

9lbs is loads - well done!

bunburyscucumbersandwich · 21/04/2021 18:17

If you want something, the worst thing is to deny yourself it. Then you'll just end up eating more!

Cakecrumbsinmybra · 21/04/2021 18:21

OMG 9lbs is great!! I've lost 7lb in about 6 weeks now and I'm doing the 5:2. Have lost nothing in 3 weeks.

olivesnutsandcheeseplease · 21/04/2021 18:43

Think that you yourself want to stick to your diet because you want to lose weight and feel healthier. However there is a little gremlin sitting on your shoulder chatting in your ear about how great chocolate or other such rubbish would taste great etc.
Well you get to choose to listen to gremlin or just ignore it. The real you isn't remotely interested in listening him drivel on about rubbish crap. The real you is really happy at how well you have done and is really keen to carry on. Gremlin just wants to sabotage you and make you feel crap again. So if you need help to ignore Gremlin, distract yourself with a cup of tea and read a good book or call a friend but know that just ignoring it will make it go away really soon and you can go on with your day

CherryChapsticks · 21/04/2021 18:45

Thank you all

@olivesnutsandcheeseplease that's brilliant and so true. I'm not hungry - I just want to eat chocolate or something fatty

Wow, 3lb a week is an excellent loss! I think I am winning of I lose 1lb in a week. Stick at it, sounds like you are doing brilliantly

GalaxyGirl24 · 21/04/2021 18:54

9 lbs is amazing! I feel like I've been dieting forever (in reality I've not been sticking to it properly) and have only lost 7 lbs in like 4 month s😅 this gives me some much needed inspiration

StuntNun · 21/04/2021 18:57

I'm a diet coach and we expect to see weight loss slow at some point between weeks 3 and 5 and then pick up again. It doesn't mean you're doing anything wrong and it doesn't even mean you aren't still losing fat; it can just be that a temporary water retention is masking the fat loss. You're already 9 lb down, what do you want to be in two weeks time? Another one or two pounds down or three pounds back up because you had a fuck it moment and made poor food choices?

TheChosenTwo · 21/04/2021 18:58

9lbs is a really great loss in 3 weeks!
Go and find something to do, if I’m watching what I eat for a bit, I tend to brush my teeth and go to bed earlier than usual to save myself the temptation of wandering about the kitchen when it’s quiet and then having a ‘snaccident’ Grin
Can you get out for another walk somewhere? Rope your family in for a walk along the canal/in the nature reserve/over the meadows etc (obviously just plucking what’s available to me out of the hat, I have no idea what’s local to you for walking around!), the longer days mean I’m constantly badgering someone to come for a walk with me!
If everyone declines (often) I call a friend or go on my own.
Good luck, have a drink and then if you’re really actually hungry I’d allow myself a small amount of whatever it is I’m really fancying.

CherryChapsticks · 21/04/2021 19:20

@TheChosenTwo thanks for the words. And I do live behind a canal funnily enough! I've done my two walks for the day though so I think it'll be a bath to distract myself

OP posts:
CherryChapsticks · 21/04/2021 19:21

@StuntNun I know you're right. I must stay strong!

9 pounds in three weeks is loads, when I diet I only lose a pound a week. Well done

dogmandu · 21/04/2021 22:26

just so relieved that a medical appointment I had turned out better than expected , I couldn't sleep (11,.5 here) so I got up and had a tin of tomato soup and a glass of port.
Back on the diet tomorrow

ilovetea14 · 21/04/2021 23:31

9lbs in 3 weeks is amazing 👏👏I lost 7lbs in 3 weeks its week 5 and have lost nothing.
I normally would give up as haven't lost anymore weight but I'm determined to keep going as I can see small changes to my body. It's hard when your craving something nice, I find drinking water helps.
