I'm just dusting off the album now... may have ants in my pants later Smile

Oh no, so sad :( I have the album pictured and love it!

Dramalady52 · 21/04/2021 11:54

He truly was "the god of sex and drums and rock and roll"

CuriousaboutSamphire · 21/04/2021 11:58

I just had someone on Facebook say "Never heard of him"

The list of songs people have sung/covered and artists he wrote for and produced is gobsmacking!

It's not unlikely that everyine who reads this will have heard at least 3 Steinman songs and will be able to mumble along to the chorus Smile

Wrote the soundtrack to my youth. While I was living the day to day grimness of West Belfast in the 80’s... in my parallel life I was a home coming queen... counting on rock and roll dreams and the drummer telling my heart what to do... not ashamed to admit I shed a tear.

Jim Steinman says that his songwriting tried to walk the thin line between thrilling and silly and I think he got it exactly right. Bat out of hell electrified 14 year old me.

Gilead · 21/04/2021 22:55

Loved him!

Emmelina · 21/04/2021 23:30

He was an absolute legend!

reprehensibleme · 21/04/2021 23:37

We listened to Bat Out of Hell on a loop for the best part of two years. Sad that lots of young people now don't have the concept of an album, hiss of a needle on vinyl, knowing which track comes next. Sad

alexdgr8 · 21/04/2021 23:39

who is he.

reprehensibleme · 21/04/2021 23:42

If you have to ask you won't get it. Grin

I don't know who you are or what you do Or where you go when you're not around I don't know anything about you, baby But you're everything I'm dreaming of I don't know who you are But you're a real dead ringer for love A real dead ringer for love........
DioneTheDiabolist · 21/04/2021 23:47

I read the title and knew exactly who you were talking about @CuriousaboutSamphire.

RIP Jim Steinman. God of Rock.🤘

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 21/04/2021 23:50

Whilst I know most of the “songs’, I only discovered today that he also produced one of my favourite songs ever (don’t judge Grin) - This Corrosion by Sisters of Mercy.
But it’s all coming back to me now.....Wink RIP

UnitedRoad · 21/04/2021 23:54

Oh that’s awful news. I know what my soundtrack for tomorrow will be now.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 21/04/2021 23:58

Sad one of the soundtracks to my youth

You have been judged and found worthy @DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat. This Corrosion is an excellent song.😎

Skimming for a name I thought you meant MeatLoaf had died.

Dead ringer was in the radio today and DH and I got in to a debate whether he was still alive or not. This would have been a very odd coincidence!

VienneseWhirligig · 22/04/2021 00:42

I was really sad when I heard. His music is fabulous, I could listen to it all day. Original Sin and Tonight Is What It Means To Be Young are my favourite songs.

Doingtheboxerbeat · 22/04/2021 00:46

I also thought Meatloaf had passed 😳, still a shame though.

DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat · 22/04/2021 06:31

If that was Ken Bruce’s show - he was playing it as a tribute to Jim Steinman Smile
newnortherner111 · 22/04/2021 07:11

His work with Meatloaf will be his defining legacy. RIP.

picklemewalnuts · 22/04/2021 07:24

Such an interesting man, so talented.

CornishTiger · 22/04/2021 07:27

EvilOnion · 22/04/2021 08:25

@DentonsFringeArnottsWaistcoat ah maybe. It was on as I switched the car on so missed the intro!

Aposterhasnoname · 22/04/2021 08:29
