Inspired by another thread by HensTeeth44, here is a thread for lovers of fan fiction either writer or just an avid reader.

I do have some unfinished Harry Potter fan fic to share but I'm at working at the moment.

Dont be afraid to share your favourites.

@MrsGulDukat

I've just realised, I need to explain why Draco wasnt married off.
I don't know - I think most people will probably just accept that the ministry is marrying young witches to older wizards while young wizards are free to go about their lives - cos patriarchy innit?
MrsGulDukat · 09/05/2021 16:53

Yep.

What I was thinking. Make the witches pop out them babies young and the young wizards have plenty of time to spread their seed.

This thread is a true godsend.

I'm currently propping up a fandom I've been a part of for over 13 years, but since the musical it's based on closed in 2014 I've been getting pretty lonely!

bunglebee · 10/05/2021 08:43

This thread is a true godsend.

It sure is. The Firefly fandom can be a bit quiet these days. It was huge at its peak Sad I guess there's a lot less canon to work with than there is in Buffy/Angel.

@MrsGulDukat, I will keep my promise to you, I just haven't got there yet (DS1 kept me up half the night...).

MrsGulDukat · 10/05/2021 09:18

No worries @bunglebee.

The fandoms I lurk on have quiet periods although a game fandom I'm on is about to get busy since the game trilogy has a remaster coming on Friday.

Not writing for me this weekend.

The Angel fandom is practically dead - fics that aren't crossovers with something else are rare. It clings to life because of its association with Buffy (which is still going reasonably strong) but not that many people care about the spin off show. Even back in the day, it was always the middle child - Whedon's least loved. I bet if Spike hadn't crossed over for the fifth series it would be buried and forgotten. But now we still get all the spangel smut.

MrsGulDukat · 10/05/2021 11:24

DS9 fandom is pretty much dedicated to Bashir/Garak.

I wonder how they'll take to a fic with Garak and a woman.

I've been reading fanfic since the internet went "Bleep Bleep Bleep Bloop Pshhhkkkkkkrrrrchchchchchchchcch" but have never left a comment! Shock

I do hit Kudos though. I also look through 100 pages to find the fics I want so it doesn’t matter if it's fallen down the listings, I will find it!

I'll start commenting. It wont be the paragraphs you want but more like 'LOVE. MOAR' but hey, it’s something.

Don’t beat me. I appreciate all you fic writers.

bunglebee · 10/05/2021 12:57

I can live with "love, moar"Grin If you felt able to throw in "I really loved xyz bit, and I was really curious about when character did blahdy, what were you thinking there?" I can guarantee you'll have made a writer's day.

I got a review overnight from a writerbuddy who said he'd put off reading my most recent chapter because he doesn't want it to be over and little glitter bombs exploded in my heart.

MrsGulDukat · 10/05/2021 13:02

@N0PE

I'd take that. I dont need in depth comment, such a little "love this" is enough for me.

OP posts:
Icantreachthepretzels · 10/05/2021 14:42

Yes even the littlest comments are massively appreciated. The bigger the comment the happier you will make the writer but a 'love this - I hope there's more' will still make their day.

Bookmarks and kudos are all very well and good - but we're in it for the comments.

MrsGulDukat · 10/05/2021 14:49

Yep.

We fan fic writers just want to be told how fucking fan-fucking-dabby-dozy we are.

OP posts:
Icantreachthepretzels · 10/05/2021 15:38

I don't even really care about that - it's just being appreciated. Like, if you're taking the time to read it - FOR FREE - at least take the time to show some appreciation that someone provided you this form of entertainment FOR FREE.

Wiltshire90 · 10/05/2021 15:40

@MrsGulDukat is that Mass Effect you're referring to? Can't wait for the remaster - never read any fic of it though Grin

MrsGulDukat · 10/05/2021 15:42

I kid.

I don't need adoration just a bit of appreciation.

It's like being a work. You just want someone to say thanks.

OP posts:
MrsGulDukat · 10/05/2021 17:17

I've had shit day so my characters are gonna have to suffer.

OP posts:
WildImaginings · 10/05/2021 17:33

I wrote a few Hayffie (Hunger Games) fanfics a good few years back. It's so stupid but I still feel guilty for not finishing the multi chapter fic I started and got 3/4 of the way through!
I am one of THOSE fanfic writers!

At the moment I'm heavily into reading again. Two main ships are Swan Queen (OUAT) and Elliot/Olivia from SVU. I check ao3 and ff.net daily Blush

bunglebee · 10/05/2021 18:07

I'm now wondering if I should dredge up my actual teen Dawson's Creek fanfic from somewhere on the internet and add it to my AO3 profile. Or if I might cringe myself inside out at the sight of it Blush I think it was probably pretty good as teen fanfic went. But, you know, teen.

It's my writing evening, yay. I feel you @MrsGulDukat. One of my characters is in the middle of an alcoholic relapse.

MrsGulDukat · 10/05/2021 18:10

Problem is, I've got nowhere for my characters to have some misery. It dont fit anywhere.

OP posts:
bunglebee · 10/05/2021 18:38

Oh God, I found the Dawson's Creek fanfic! And I absolutely did cringe myself inside out. I made it through about one paragraph. Apparently I used to think I was soooo smart and funny.

At least I know I've got a lot better.

Icantreachthepretzels · 10/05/2021 19:19

I'm very happy that I didn't write fanfic as a teenager. I didn't even find out it was a thing until I was at uni and even then I didn't feel the need to join in.

MrsGulDukat · 10/05/2021 19:41

I started writing fanfic properly in 2014 at the grand old age of 31.

I remember it well because a friend hated that I had a hobby.

OP posts:
Icantreachthepretzels · 10/05/2021 21:16

So I just published a Remus as a wolf chapter and racked up some of the quickest kudos I've ever gotten. He's going to spend virtually the entirety of the next three chapters completely naked (but human) - that better get me some comments.

bunglebee · 10/05/2021 21:20

Ha! If I've learned anything in fandom, it's that cheap thrills work.

I've churned out a quick 1,200 words of vaguely portentous flashback.
