Inspired by another thread by HensTeeth44, here is a thread for lovers of fan fiction either writer or just an avid reader.

I do have some unfinished Harry Potter fan fic to share but I'm at working at the moment.

Dont be afraid to share your favourites.

I get what you mean about the whole verse thing mrsgul! I’m in a fandom where everything is a medieval setting though many people tend to write Modern!AU’s and that’s what I’ve done and made a whole series. I do love writing but at times it can be difficult and I do find things confusing from canon vs my universe if that makes sense Hmm

MrsGulDukat · 25/04/2021 21:48

@teaandcustardcreamsx

I've created species, planets. What they look like, their fashion, culture, biology. All these characters.

Now I'm a point thinking, what do I do with it all?

Go full Tolkien, obvs?

MrsGulDukat · 25/04/2021 22:13

I would @bunglebee but Tolkien passed me by.

OP posts:
bunglebee · 26/04/2021 07:57

To be fair I always think a full Tolkien involves holing up in an Oxford college for 50 years and getting interestingly weird, and ain't nobody got time for that...

But going full tilt on the world building and side stories, basically. Tolkien kind of fanficced himself.

MrsGulDukat · 26/04/2021 08:09

We will see what happens @bunglebee

Writers block might turn me weird or I'll just live in lala land with my characters.

Hit a roll this evening, wrote 2k words, and finished a chapter!

MrsGulDukat · 27/04/2021 02:25

Well done @bunglebee

bunglebee · 27/04/2021 07:44

It's a good thing I'm committed to finishing the bloody thing, as since I hit the middle chapters I get zero feedback. I'm assuming hoping everyone is waiting until the end to give their verdict. Maybe I'll shake the tree with some ill-advised sex in the next chapter.

MrsGulDukat · 27/04/2021 10:50

I'm considering when I can shoehorn in some I'll advised sex in my Lucius malfoy fic. Can't have it to shown.

Another Marvel Cinematic Universe fanfic writer here (you can possibly tell which pairing...). I've been reading fanfic for decades but only writing for a few years, and I'm getting back into writing after a couple of years away now that DS is a little bigger and there are things happening in the MCU again to draw my interest!

MrsGulDukat · 28/04/2021 09:35

Yay, a day off and no kid in the house. Time for some writing.

OP posts:
bunglebee · 28/04/2021 09:38

Proper jel! I've been able to take a day of TOIL a few times and write, but right now I'll have to use my next one to work on my projects for the course I'm studying Sad

Hi @buckyrogers! Would love to read your work and any recs you care to share...

MrsGulDukat · 28/04/2021 09:41

@bunglebee

The intention is to write but I fear something will distract me.

OP posts:
MrsGulDukat · 28/04/2021 15:03

Well, I've had a full day and I've written about a paragraph in that time.

CornedBeef451 · 29/04/2021 12:03

When I leave comments on fics now the writer then responds. Should I respond to them or can I leave it there? I don't want to be rude but I'm also really quite awkward.

I am in a very spaced out conversation with one writer, it's the only WIP I follow and I always make sure she knows I'm happy she's back again, just in case she disappears!

MrsGulDukat · 29/04/2021 12:11

@CornedBeef451

Depends if there's anything to respond to.

If it's just a thanks, glad you like it thing. No need to respond. If they are asking you something, then do respond.

ginnybag · 29/04/2021 12:33

Oh, people :-) Yay!

I've read across loads of different fandoms since I was fourteen or so, and I've written in a few. Most of my earlier stuff is HP/LoTR and is, frankly, shockingly bad. (It also isn't - so far as I know- still posted anywhere, thank GOD!)

Currently, I flit about on AO3 writing for Gundam Wing and reading most things. (And that's probably enough to be outing, if there's anyone on here who reads in that fandom, but hey ho)

It's a bizarre hobby in some ways, but it's fun. I've made really good international friends through it. One of my Beta readers was at my wedding, and we live on different continents!

CornedBeef451 · 29/04/2021 12:37

@MrsGulDukat thanks. I just want them to keep writing!

MrsGulDukat · 29/04/2021 12:39

Welcome @ginnybag

I love fan fiction writing. It's served a treatment for Depression over the years and keeps my mind ticking.

OP posts:
MrsGulDukat · 29/04/2021 12:43

@CornedBeef451

Just leaving a comment saying you love it etc, means a lot. Writing takes a lot of time and thinking, so it's nice to know it's worthwhile continuing.

OP posts:
bunglebee · 29/04/2021 12:51

I added a note to my last chapter basically begging for comments and it worked :)

It can just really feel sometimes, if you don't get that feedback, that all the cramming writing into evenings, brainstorming, editing, drawing and redrawing story maps is just screaming into the void. I'm shallow enough to want some validation, dammit.

bunglebee · 29/04/2021 12:52

Also, if you can see that a couple of hundred people read your last chapter and not one of them kudosed or commented, it's like... does that mean they all hated it?

MrsGulDukat · 29/04/2021 12:53

@bunglebee

I admit, I do get a little miffed when a chapter gets zero acknowledgement.
