'One project a day' thread

... many years ago when i was first on MN I started (or maybe just actively participated in, cannot quite recall) a one (house) project a day. It made the most profound difference to my home. The project could be time consuming or not. It could take seconds, minutes or hours. I recall things like changing the lightbulb and lampshade in a hallway table lamp for example as a single day project. One day i also threw away holey and raggedy cushion covers and bought news ones. Little things, that really mattered.

If anyone is interested I wish to start another thread.

Today, as my one project a day, I cleared out my dehydrated and weed-ridden window boxes (2 of them). I put new compost in them and planted them with lobelia (obviously!); red geraniums and some dianthus. I am happy looking out (and in!) my front windows now. :)

@ShinyHatStand

Another couple of fence panels painted. Now just got to do the ones that are mostly out of sight and covered with overgrown bushes. And the shed, which I'm strangely looking forward to. It's a different colour!!!! How exciting will that be 😂

Can we see a photo when it's done?!

I'm trying to convince DH that we don't need to use brown.

Massive pile of ironing done, even if I had to park ds in front of the TV to allow me to get it finished.

mum2jakie · 02/05/2021 13:30

Quick tidy of interior of car this morning and a couple of items of rubbish cleared from outside the back door. Quick and simple but makes a difference

BlueLobelia · 02/05/2021 15:10

I have washed all my door knobs. Most of them are brass so tomorrow I am getting some brasso and will (at some point) polish them.

Some of them are the beehive style and very very old. I got an old toothbrush out and have to say the luck that came out of the ridges was a bit [boak]

Oh, and in an unexpected side-project i banned the DCs from roblox for 24 hours because they both turn into the girl from the Exorcist when Tower of Hell does not go their way.

Two small boys are now sulking in their rooms.

*muck from the ridges, not luck.
@Lamentations - would Elbow Grease work on sticky kitchen wall tiles? I have tried everything and they never quite get rid of that stickiness.
Yes I think so. It shifts that horrible sticky layer on the top of the kitchen units and I used to have to use a scouter and jif for that. It's solvent free so I've no idea how it works but it's a bloody marvel. It will send you down a rabbit hole of finding things to clean with it (until the novelty wears off).

RunningKatie · 02/05/2021 16:51

Emails down to 5 unread! I've also submitted a claim to the vets, and almost 100% on the kitchen design - albeit with a few questions and changes!

cheeseychovolate · 02/05/2021 17:13

We've hung 5 pictures up today, it's only took us since Christmas to get on and do it. !

Sparklynewname · 02/05/2021 17:32

Washing done and put away! It only took me one hour and eight minutes!

RunningKatie · 02/05/2021 17:35

I also put my mini Christmas tree in the loft Blush. In my defence I brought it home from work in March and it has sat on my desk since then

A couple weeks ago my body scrub (which contains oil) was upended and all the oil had leaked in the tray with our shampoos, etc. I noticed this during my shower after a very long day at work. Thought I'd sorted it the next day but I always forgot until I had my shower. Today I finally remembered and this promoted a deep clean of the rest of the bathroom.

DH finished fixing the shed.

2020nymph · 02/05/2021 18:26

Started tackling the garden which is over run with weeds and nettles. Did an hour an a half and cant see much of a difference but it's a start.

Another bag of textiles sorted.

Just sorting out the last of the laundry.

Catname · 02/05/2021 18:28

I have planted 20 plants in my new bed today. Nominally, it is complete but, you know, there’s always room for a little one 😀. I wasn’t brave enough to plant the Catnip directly into the ground but have put it in pots. The cats have found it already though 🤨

There’s another big border to use my tiller on and plant up so I’m nowhere near finished yet. I woke up at an ungodly hour this morning and decided to come downstairs and plan that border. It will be weird when I don’t have stacks of plants lined up to be planted out.

ShinyHatStand · 02/05/2021 18:30

Shed tidied
Toddler toys given away
3 fence panels painted

mamakoukla · 02/05/2021 19:31

Monthly overhaul of music case for guitar, changing humidity packs and resoaking the clay block. Cleaned and polished the guitar while ai was at it. Day to day just a wipe down to keep the wood free of finger marks and oil.

Desk done - and also generated tomorrow’s task which is to sort out some bank paperwork and to pay three bills.

Thank you for keeping me company as I get things done

Oh you've reminded me. There is still a carrier bag of Christmas decorations on the landing. Tomorrow's project is to put it in the loft.

This is so inspiring, thanks OP and everyone.
As well as ironing and cooking 2 course dinner totally from scratch , I've made a trip to the clothes bank.
Tomorrow's job is hoover downstairs and clean the hob. Perhaps rearrange the furniture in the conservatory, because I am never happy with it.

PowerslidePanda · 02/05/2021 21:19

Having painted the landing yesterday, the woodwork looked rather grubby by comparison, so today's project turned out to be giving that a good scrub. En-suite grouting deferred to tomorrow.

Brigante9 · 02/05/2021 21:36

I too can be all or nothing. Today was a bit of a washout due to too much red wine last night 😳 however, I managed to organise a new home for pond fish that are breeding far too successfully and caught what I thought was all the babies but then saw more 😱 and planted out my beans which were taking over the kitchen. I seem to get a surge of energy about 9pm, so I’ve just emptied the recycling, food waste and main bins and put on wash one of two.

Tomorrow I’ll be taking fishies to their new home (dogs will be disappointed, they’ve been enraptured since they went into a 30 litre bucket so are visible), planting out patty pan squash and buying horse bedding and feed.

Divineswirls · 02/05/2021 22:28

Not feeling too great today so all I managed was to clean the kitchen sink and ceramic hob. But every little bit helps and I did feel a sense of satisfaction after so that's a small win for me.

DownUdderer · 03/05/2021 05:08

I've bought sewing machine needles and new thread. Next step is hemming my curtains.

Fnib · 03/05/2021 06:55

I cleaned the bannister rail yesterday. I was fairly horrified at the goo that came off it!

mathanxiety · 03/05/2021 07:18

Made banana bread, helped DD produce a paper when her laptop went on the fritz.

Tomorrow - cake to bake and ice, laundry to wash, dry, and put away, trip to Post Office to weigh and post two items.

cheeseychovolate · 03/05/2021 08:06

Today I'll be getting the school uniform ready for the week, which will include polishing the school shoes. I'll sort my work cleaning stuff out ready for tomorrow also.
