It’s very extreme... unless you really want that I would look at a moderate low carb guide like Second Nature, or a calorie app like Nutri check - both of which are used by NHS.

Also worth getting hold of loose weight feel great by Rangan Chatterjee - not a diet, but a really good guide to the mindset changes and habits needed for sustainable weight loss

HugeAckmansWife · 18/04/2021 12:51

There's nothing in it you can't find on the Internet for free. 800 is v v restrictive and hard to stick to unless you are 100% in control of all your meals all the time.. Ie never need to eat at work or out with friends etc. It's also not remotely sustainable. Useful if you need to drop weight v quickly for an operation or something but ou can do that using fitness pal etc and just track your calories.

As above poster has said, there is nothing in the book that you can't find for free on the website, youtube or other blogs. I just bought it this week. It's quite boring and contains a few references to studies and individual cases. I want to start the fast 800 for 2 weeks to kick my butt into weight loss but I'm stuck in a 'tomorrow' loop Blush

HugeAckmansWife · 18/04/2021 17:42

Piapa its really pretty hard core to go to 800. How about you try 1200 -or 1400 and drinking lots of water as a starting point. Limit alcohol to one glass or weekends only or spirits and mixers rather than wine and swap crisps for popcorn. I find that means i can lose a steady 1lb a week (4st in a year if I keep it up) and is sustainable.

Piapea · 18/04/2021 18:37

That is really good advice. I need to change my outlook I think. I'm very all or nothing. I think committing to something doable even though the results aren't as intense is better than trying something extreme and lasting 4 days.

I’d say the brilliant 5:2 threads on here are all you need tbh.

musicalfrog · 18/04/2021 19:09

I don't find it an extreme diet at all. Confused The recipes make it easy to stick to the calorie count, and there are meal plans if you need them. You're only supposed to do it for a few weeks at a time. It's very effective very quickly so if you need to lose weight for health reasons I would say it's brilliant for that.

musicalfrog · 18/04/2021 19:10

Oh and the recipes are good to keep using even if not part of a calorie controlled diet. Super yummy!

BananasAreEvil · 18/04/2021 19:44

okay you have all convinced me. To be honest i just want to see what 800 calories looks like. I already don't drink alcohol, eat sugar, inc fruit, or eat bread, pasta, rice, pulses or starchy veg and have recently cut off dairy. I pretty much only eat eggs, avocado, mushrooms, smoked salmon, vegetables, meat/fish and nuts. So sick of it.

I massively over do it on the almonds, like I'll feel hungry and eat a whole 125 grasm packet.

Bananas do you even need to lose weight? You have a restrictive diet already?

BananasAreEvil · 18/04/2021 20:46

I do. I need to lose about a stone and a half. I am only 5.1", 51yo and I seem to be getting bigger by the minute. I am so fed up.

funtimefrank · 18/04/2021 21:19

I've done it. 3 times. Each time lost a chunk of weight but each time ended up unable to sustain it and had huge blow outs. Last time was after Christmas when I did it for about 6 weeks and lost over a stone. All back on now.

I struggle with weight loss massively- short, dodgy thyroid, sedentary life style, peri menopausal and basically just never found it easy. This works (and i felt good on it tbh) but I am concerned it did nothing to help my metabolism.

I second dr chatergee btw. Made so much sense.

teaandcake22 · 18/04/2021 21:35

I've got the Fast 800 recipe book - there are two I think. I have done this fast for a few weeks and then move on to IF. The recipe book is great for healthy recipes and ideas. It also has ideas on how to increase portion sizes and calories if you need to/ for other family members. We really enjoy the meals and are finding it good to eat different meals.

BananasAreEvil · 19/04/2021 06:37

@funtimefrank same here. I checked my weight this morning, my bmi is 30. I don't believe you'd know it looking at me. Unless I am deluded, I think I look podgy rather than fat. But not being able to lose weight despite not drinking alcohol, take away, restaurant food, any processed food whatsoever, starches and most sugars is a bloody miserable existence.
