Truthfully what do you think the age limit is on dungarees

I really want some I’m 45! Too old? I’m also ‘curvy’. But damn they look comfy.

OP posts:
therocinante · 17/04/2021 21:21

I'm 31, I have 3 pairs (2 Lucy and Yaks, basically feel like a comfy toddler in them) and a black denim pair. My absolute favourite!

OverTheRubicon · 17/04/2021 21:22

Tons of early 40s mums on the school run wearing them around here. I think they were on the 20 year olds a few years back, now they're on to raising our 90s wardrobes (really really low rise jeans are back, god help us)..

MrsJBaptiste · 17/04/2021 21:24

Based on the OP and no other comments, I'd say age 2-3. After potty training, dungarees were a definite NO.

nomorespaghetti · 17/04/2021 21:26

I’m 35 and have many pairs (mainly L&Y), I LOVE them and expect to be wearing them for many years to come! I’m not sure if they actually look good on me or not, but I’m so comfortable that I don’t care at all! I’m constantly bending down/crouching with my small kids, and I love never having to worry about having a builders bum.

MrsJBaptiste · 17/04/2021 21:27

If you don't care what others think then crack on.

If you do, do not even look at them.

doctorhamster · 17/04/2021 21:28

About 5 I would think

legosnowqueen · 17/04/2021 21:33

Age 8 or size 8...but to be honest the wee issue would put me off even if I met either of those criteria, I already struggle with jumpsuits...

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 17/04/2021 21:33

I saw a woman wearing them today and she looked great. She was not willow or perfect figured. Hers were fairly dark denim and she had big baby pink and white t-shirt underneath, v nice sunglasses, sandals and hair up. Yes I wanted to copy the whole look! Grin

fluffytowelsandlavender · 17/04/2021 21:44

Omg im so excited about this thread im nearly 45 and bought some today x

cadentiasidera · 17/04/2021 21:45

@spikyplants2021 I totally agree! (I'm 38, so nearly there!) Wouldn't have dared wear them when I was younger, now I just want to be comfortable and wear what I want, I've recently got a pair of purple corduroy Lucy and Yaks and I love them! I think I will be adding more dungarees to my wardrobe. I am also curvy and overweight (thanks anti-depressants/covid etc) so I'm aware I probably look a bit pregnant in them but I still don't care!

eaglejulesk · 17/04/2021 21:53

There isn't one. Wear what you want and be happy.

Craftycorvid · 17/04/2021 21:53

I have a few dungas in my collection and love them. I also own the ‘Run and Fly’ dinosaur dress and am perfectly happy to have a stegosaurus on my bum Grin so I guess looking polished and ‘grown up’ isn’t always on my agenda. That said, I think dungarees are an ‘any age’ garment and wouldn’t give a stuff if they weren’t. Felicity Kendal always looked very sexy in them in ‘The Good Life’.

HeyGirlHeyBoy · 17/04/2021 21:56

Big stripe baby pink and white I meant!

Figgygal · 17/04/2021 22:03

I’m 40 and have a pair from fatface
Love them wear them rolled up in the summer
So Comfy

frogswimming · 17/04/2021 22:40

Yeah I'm gonna say single figures. No older than 9. Grown women in them look ridiculous, like they just really want to buy the most fashionable thing when they don't really like it, except for that it's fashionable. Same goes for knitted tank tops.

Maltesercake · 17/04/2021 22:42

The point where you stop wearing nappies, so about 2. They’re impractical on young children once toilet trained and look awful on most adults. Maybe there’s a few teen years you can pull it off. But why would you, they’re just annoying.

queenofthenorthwest · 17/04/2021 23:10

7

Piemam · 17/04/2021 23:58

No age limit, just two rules.
Zero fucks, and lots of sass.

sadpapercourtesan · 18/04/2021 00:00

I'm in the single figures camp too I'm afraid

Grown women in dungarees/playsuits/jumpsuits make my toes curl

therocinante · 18/04/2021 00:29

I'm perversely pleased by the fact that there are apparently loads of women mildly annoyed and disapproving of my dungarees who think I look like a twat.

I'm a very comfy twat, thank you.

NameChangedForThisFeb21 · 18/04/2021 01:25
  1. Honestly.
They look silly on adults. There’s always something an adult woman would look better in rather than toddlers play clothes/an American depression era farmer's only set of work clothes.
lolacola77 · 18/04/2021 01:46

There is no age limit. I saw a lady today who was rather large (I'm not being nasty), had wild hair and bright red lipstick. She gave off an arty vibe and looked wonderful.

LunaNorth · 18/04/2021 05:39

I’m 46 and I love mine. I have two black and one blue denim pairs.

Get lots of compliments, and probably more than a few eye-rolls.

🤷🏼‍♀️

Frankie2021 · 18/04/2021 06:00

omgoodness i love this question and i love dungarees lol i wore them in my teens (as a punk in the early 1980 then cleaned my act up slightly in the mid 80s..think dexys midnight runners) then when i was pregnant in the late 80s - i gave them a brief reapearance in the early 2000s but my mother refused to walk beside me cos in her words 'people might think im your bi**h' . (very politically uncorrect my mam then during the first lockdown i found a pair on ebay and theyre my go to comfys lol) so long story short, any age anywhere, you go girl!
oh and you should have a peek on amazon at the harem style dungarees, fantastic !

ditavonteesed · 18/04/2021 06:01

I'm 46, live in dungarees they are my absolute favourite clothing item. I also just bought a bright pink boiler suit which I love just as much. No age limit. Look at Lucy and yak they use older models as well and they all look fabulous.
