Disinfecting supermarket shopping ?

After the recent newspaper article on Washing your weekly shopping - advising that theres no need to continue disinfecting shopping as the virus is airborne. Are people still going to clean items brought from supermarkets?

I've never once done this. I wear a mask and wash/sanitize my hands, but I've never disinfected shopping.

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2021 21:21

There is no need. I can understand doing it this time last year as we didn't know much about the virus then but not now.

vodkaredbullgirl · 13/04/2021 21:22

Never done it.

RaininSummer · 13/04/2021 21:23

Never started doing this. Just washed hands when cooking and eating so still doing that same as I ever did.

SnargaluffPod · 13/04/2021 21:23

Never done it.

Mrsjayy · 13/04/2021 21:24

I've never disinfected shopping didn't the disinfectant. Penetrate packets ? I always washed my hands, but I think it's probably time to stop.

Mrsjayy · 13/04/2021 21:28

I volunteer at a food bank.all through covid and we never disinfected food.

dementedpixie · 13/04/2021 21:32

I have never ever disinfected my shopping

HunkyPunk · 13/04/2021 21:32

I've never disinfected shopping or quarantined post. I just wash my hands regularly, and maybe get a squirt of antibac as I go into shops.

DuchessOfBuggerAll · 13/04/2021 21:33

Never done it - complete overkill.

bumpdownthestairs · 13/04/2021 21:35

Not this again 😂😂🙈

mooonstone · 13/04/2021 21:36

I would only disinfect (ie wash as normal) loose items. I’m not going to disinfect packaging which is getting disposed of regardless - you’re supposed to wash your hands frequently

HugeAckmansWife · 13/04/2021 21:37

I think it would be helpful if Chris Whitty etc came out and said very clearly that there is no need for this, or quarantining post or similar. Not imply or suggest or assume people will join the dots. And get the Mail and all the other media sources that have delighted in scaring the crap out of people like my MIL to print it frequently and in big letters.

Timper · 13/04/2021 21:37

Never have, never will.

Thatwentbadly · 13/04/2021 21:38

We did but DH is ECV. I stopped when DD went back to school because I thought the risk from her was much higher and I wasn’t going to start dunking her in Milton.

Sparklingbrook · 13/04/2021 21:43

@bumpdownthestairs

Not this again 😂😂🙈
Yes that too! Got your bingo card handy? Grin
Myusernameisnotmyusernameno · 13/04/2021 21:45

I’ve also never done this

Iheartmysmart · 13/04/2021 21:45

Crikey! I can barely be bothered to put my shopping away yet alone disinfect it first.

KurtWilde · 13/04/2021 21:50

Never did it ever, can't really understand anyone who did tbh but each to their own.

BMW6 · 13/04/2021 21:50

I'm another "Never have, never will" as completely unnecessary.

mumjustmum · 13/04/2021 21:55

Never done it

Mermaid2007 · 13/04/2021 21:57

I did and only stopped about two weeks ago! I would also wash my hands after handling/removing packaging anyway which looking back now seems silly that I did spend time wiping everything down!
I still bin envelopes immediately when the post arrives though and wash my hands straight away. The same with parcels, I get rid of the packaging straight away!

spiderlight · 13/04/2021 21:58

I'm erring towards stopping now, although it's probably saved me a fair bit of money over the past year as I've stood in the supermarket looking at things and thinking 'Do I want this enough to wash it?'

AnnaMagnani · 13/04/2021 22:01

It's airborne. Washing shopping and all the surface wiping was always a waste of time.

Masks, social distancing, ventilation are the useful stuff.

100% this.

I have never disinfected my shopping. I’ve also never quarantined my Amazon parcels, set fire to my post to disinfect it or bleached my shoes after being outside the house.
