What Melatonin is good

Bythemillpond · 10/04/2021 16:34

I take Melatonin nightly. It is the only thing that knocks me out. Without it I think I would be awake for days at a time.
(Was up 24 hours yesterday and could have kept going as I felt wide awake but I knew I needed to have some sleep)

Usually I buy a few years supply when we go to the US but due to Covid I haven’t done my usual trip and am running out.

I have been told Biovea is an ok company to buy from but which Melatonin is best. I need a fast acting type. I have tried the slow acting types and the stuff the NHS have on prescription which is 2mg of slow acting but they don’t do anything.

At the moment I have the 10mg Capsule type from CVS which I pull apart and have just under half the contents so capsule lasts 2 days and has a bit left over

i buy natrol fast acting from vitamin grocer - same ones i buy when in the US

Ostryga · 10/04/2021 16:36

I can’t get any now because they won’t ship to the UK 😭 but my usual one is the 10mg Nature Made brand. They are fab.

My sister is going to the US next year, so she will be able to return me to sleep.

Chocobudbrownies · 10/04/2021 16:51

I get mine online. There's a couple of sites I use

Which sites, if you don’t mind sharing? I’ve used Biovea in the past but at the moment their reviews are absolutely awful so I’m worried what they’re up to.
UseYourIllusion · 10/04/2021 16:54

Have a look at a company called Piping Rock. I order from those online. Never had any issues and they seem to be a lot cheaper than anywhere else.
I'm in England I add.

4PawsGood · 10/04/2021 16:55

I should add, it was the sundown gummies we got.

Sellstrom · 10/04/2021 17:04

Have you tried promethazine 25mg? I find it's much more effective than melatonin and you can buy in the UK.

Isababybel · 10/04/2021 18:08

Biovea get bad reviews because it can take a good 3 weeks+ for your order to arrive. Ive placed 2 orders since Christmas that have taken that long to arrive but im ok with it, no other issues at all they are definitely legit.
I buy this melatonin specifically:
www.biovea.com/uk/product/detail/21521/melatonin-10mg-fast-dissolve--strawberry-60-vegetarian-tablets/?deptid=1&cid=22592&mid=0&kw=

chipsandpeas · 10/04/2021 18:10

vitamin grocer is still shipping to the UK, least they were in feb last time i placed a order - and no customs charges as well

Girlwhowearsglasses · 10/04/2021 18:13

Got some from Biovea last week - took about ten days shipping

Bythemillpond · 10/04/2021 18:13

chipsandpeas
I have tried natrol I have bottles of the 5mg melatonin but it all seems to be the slow acting stuff which doesn’t do a thing

Sellstrom

I have antihistamines (currently on strong ones because of a severe allergic reaction) they supposedly make you drowsy but again they don’t do a thing to me.

UseYourIllusion

I will look at Piping Rock. What brand and type do you order as l am worried about spending ££s and finding they are useless.

I have never been great at sleeping but I do need to sleep
Firstly because I feel awful when I do get tired then only sleep for a few hours, wake up and feel groggy but can’t seem to fall asleep and stay asleep long enough to feel like I can do anything.

Secondly I am fearful as lack of sleep over years can lead to dementia

@Bythemillpond last time I ordered 2 bottles of own brand, 3mg 250 tablets. This doesn't attract customs. I've been ordering from them since 2017 when I ran out of CVS ones I brought back from the US.

I did make the mistake of ordering 4 bottles once and this attracted customs fees. 2 bottles has never been charged. I've attached a screen shot of my last order which was February this year.

UseYourIllusion · 10/04/2021 19:47

Apologies I didn't add the shipping. Total for the above with shipping to the UK was £13.18p

pheonixrebirth · 10/04/2021 19:55

I've used Biovea for a few years now and can recommend them. It does normally take a good couple of weeks for delivery.
I get the natrol gummies and the Kirkland sleep aid tablets.

Comefromaway · 10/04/2021 19:58

I’m using Biovea to get gummies for Ds. There was a supply issue last year for about 3/4 months but it seems ok now. I generally allow 3-4 weeks for delivery but it’s usually less.

That’s so weird, I was about to start the same thread! About to run out of the CVS ones I bought years ago in the US. I don’t need them all the time but every few months I have a bad sleep run- on one at the moment- do this is good timing, thanks OP.

HundredMilesAnHour · 10/04/2021 21:41

I used to get Nature's Bountry brand Melatonin (fast acting 5mg or 10mg) shipped to the UK from iherb. It's the same brand that I used to buy in CVS/Walgreens.

But I just tried a dummy purchase in iherb and shipping to the UK for melatonin is now not allowed. Grr.

The only other way to get some is to buy from Ebay. This brand is a known name but of course there's no proof that the contents are genuine.

Following with interest. Is this the real stuff?
I was looking online a few days ago, but wasn’t sure as a lot of stuff is ‘natural melatonin’ which has no actual melatonin in it

SomeoneInTheLaaaaaounge · 10/04/2021 21:48

You can get some on eBay - can’t remember the brand but have needs buying it for years. It’s in a blue bottle.

Me too. However, I don't find them fast acting, nor do they knock me out

How do you find them?

Comefromaway · 10/04/2021 21:53

The nurse from Camhs told me you do build up a tolerance. Also melatonin only works long term if you are someone that doesn’t produce enough naturally such as Ds with autism.

She advised he only take it on school nights and not in the holidays.

Can you upload a photo of the CVS one please? I use piping rock but o would say they definitely do not knock you out!
Bythemillpond · 10/04/2021 22:22

I don’t really want to buy off eBay because you don’t really know what you are getting

Had a look at Piping Rock. They seem very inexpensive.
Might get a variety of the piping rock 10mg and the Biovea ones mentioned.
Really worried as only just realised I have 17 days supply left and if Biovea take 3 weeks to come I am going to be up for days.

I have been taking approx 4-5 mg of fast acting CVS melatonin and a strong sleep inducing antihistamine for the last few weeks and have been managing over 6 hours sleep for more days than not which is amazing. Did try the antihistamine on its own but it didn’t work. Reason I was up till 5.30am this morning. I think I need the Melatonin to knock me out and the antihistamine to keep me asleep once I am asleep
