What Melatonin is good

I take Melatonin nightly. It is the only thing that knocks me out. Without it I think I would be awake for days at a time.
(Was up 24 hours yesterday and could have kept going as I felt wide awake but I knew I needed to have some sleep)

Usually I buy a few years supply when we go to the US but due to Covid I haven’t done my usual trip and am running out.

I have been told Biovea is an ok company to buy from but which Melatonin is best. I need a fast acting type. I have tried the slow acting types and the stuff the NHS have on prescription which is 2mg of slow acting but they don’t do anything.

At the moment I have the 10mg Capsule type from CVS which I pull apart and have just under half the contents so capsule lasts 2 days and has a bit left over

They work for me.
It started when I was in the USA sharing a room with a snorer. I went to CVS and they suggested melatonin. From then on I’d take one half an hour before sleep and I’ve never had an issue dropping off. I tend to wake in the night for the loo but can always fall straight back asleep again.

Everyone is different but 3mg works for me. You need to find your balance really.

Mine started when I went into menopause.
My doctors surgery were useless. I probably needed HRT. But as a surgery they don’t prescribe it. I probably needed sleeping pills but again was told as a surgery they don’t prescribe them.

I was in my knees getting anything from 1.5 hours to 4 hours sleep each night.

My doctors remedies were anything from putting sprigs of lavender under my pillow to going to bed at the same time to staying up till I got really tired then I should get a good 8 hours. (I didn’t. I was up after 4 hours and still knackered)
After each suggestion I had to go away for 2 weeks and see if that advice worked. Even though I had already tried all these suggestions before.
In the end DH brought me back some Melatonin from the US. He had been into the pharmacy and explained my difficulty.
I have been taking Melatonin for around 4 years.
I am told by the doctors at my surgery I shouldn’t but until they can come up with an alternative that works then I can’t see the problem.
