The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

@JennyBond. Grin yes indeed! Lol

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 12:59

It’s not about refunds. It’s about the assumption that as a licence payer which funds the BBC l want to watch this crap. And l don’t.

I do find this attitude of press and public treating someone as a joke most of their life and then falling over themselves when they're dead to out-grieve each other.

I'm not surprised people are complaining. Looking up to the monarchy is no longer the default, and hasn't been for years. Add to that, he was 99, an age where people are expected to die.
Of course the BBC should have paid their respects but there's absolutely no need for continual coverage. People simply aren't that interested.

Roussette · 10/04/2021 12:59

How do people cope when it's the bloody budget I wonder

It's not exactly the same coverage on BBC 1 and 2, and BBC4 suspended when reporting on the Budget

It's felt creepy. Brings to mind North Korea and state controlled media propoganda.

AnnaFiveTowns · 10/04/2021 13:01

Ive just checked BBC 1 and it's still fucking on!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 13:02

Absolutely, it’s line state propoganda. It is creepy.

He was married to the most recognisable, influential and powerful woman on the planet for 73 years. He'd been at the core of the Monarchy for 68 of them.

How often do we have to put up with sport being broadcast simultaneously on both channels? Watching overgrown schoolboys playing with their balls is a bit trite in comparison, don't you think?

Endlesscleaning · 10/04/2021 13:03

@Stellaris22

”no concept of duty”

Wait, it's my duty to watch coverage about someone I have no connection to? Is it my duty to mourn someone I never knew?

^^ The irony!

Roussette · 10/04/2021 13:04

I have never known exactly the same programme on BBC1 AND BBC2. Ever.
And I'm old.

woodhill · 10/04/2021 13:04

@AlexaShutUp

I'm not interested in the wall to wall coverage personally, but I recognise that PP has been a big part of public life for the last seven decades and that the media attention is therefore inevitable. I'm sure that there are people who want to watch it.

Surely the rest of us can just turn off the TV and find something else to do?

It seems to be in bad taste to me to complain about the coverage of a person's death. Just don't watch it if you find it dull?

Yes, remember Why Don't You. Smile
Oblomov21 · 10/04/2021 13:04

I'm not bothered about missing any tv programme.
But the coverage is excessive. Every channel? I didn't even like the man.

Fiercestcalm · 10/04/2021 13:05

The mawkishness is insufferable, republicans pay their licence fee too.

Foxhasbigsocks · 10/04/2021 13:05

I wouldn’t complain but I don’t think the complainers are selfish. I’m personally in favour of a republic

UntamedWisteria · 10/04/2021 13:06

I did think it was bizarre that BBC1 and BBC2 had identical programmes on at the same time.

Luckily I enjoy Gogglebox!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 13:07

❤️Absolutely.

It’s about the assumption that as a licence payer which funds the BBC l want to watch this crap. And l don’t.

But there's lots of crap on the BBC that I choose not to watch. Eastenders, for example. Or Top Gear.

I just accept that the BBC caters for a wide audience and that not everything will be to my taste. The license fee is still a bargain as far as I'm concerned.

I completely share your perspective that the coverage of Prince Philip's death isn't interesting, but I recognise that others will feel differently. Personally, I think it's a bit crass to complain, but it's your right to express your views.

Blessex · 10/04/2021 13:07

@AnnaFiveTowns it’s because it’s the one o’clock news!!! What on earth is the point of complaining. It’s not going to change anything.

fizbosshoes · 10/04/2021 13:08

Whilst I think there should be coverage, would someone like to explain why exactly the same programming was shown on BBC1 and BBC2?

This what I dont understand? I know they will already have programmes and obituaries lined up but I cant see the point of the synchronised broadcasting on 2 channels. I saw PP had died via social media. I think I listened to (sad music on) the radio for 10 min, then watched 1 programme on C4 and L of D on iplayer, in the eve. I havent actually watched anything on Prince Phillip yet.

tiredmum2468 · 10/04/2021 13:08

It was the same when lady Diana died there was bloody weeks of it - it was very sad but just too much

I remember the shop I worked in closed for the funeral day the Saturday as a mark of respect

Fair enough

However we all lost a days pay and she was minted and hear she left her sons millions and we on minimum wage were out of pocket

Fine if you love lady Diana and wanted the day off to pour over the telly but for the rest of us we were all very annoyed x

ChristinaYang10 · 10/04/2021 13:08

I’m not particularly interested and haven’t seen the coverage beyond headlines but it’s just a day or so. It seems odd to show the same thing on both channels but whatever, who cares.
The bbc shows lots of stuff plenty of people aren’t interested in - I have no interest in the World Cup being played on both channels, but I do like it when they offer the olympics on both channels. I appreciate in those cases its not exactly the same thing being shown but still, plenty of people could say “but I have no interest in this, why is it being shown, I can’t get away from the sport!!” Well you could just not watch tv for an evening.

They have ensured that even more people will ditch the licence fee undoubtedly.

Ditch the license fee over a day or two of tv they don’t like? Seems a bit self-involved Hmm

OneFamilyToRuleUsAll · 10/04/2021 13:08

Funnily enough, I think it's the sort of thing PP would do if he had the chance. Don't think he'd care that people don't care either.

I wouldn't bother to complain but I think it's good people did, if only to show the RF just how much people don't care anymore.

MimiSunshine · 10/04/2021 13:08

OP I’m embarrassed for you that you complained.

Go read a book.
