The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

I hate sport on the telly. Boring as sin. Yet I have never thought once to complain to the BBC nor piss and moan about licence fees. I know where the off button is and am not a complete sad act.

Honestly when did people become so small
minded, bitter and vitriolic? It’s so depressing.

gallbladderpain · 10/04/2021 15:30

@MarshaBradyo

Oh they all have but not without massive amounts of whinging about it constantly, the exact same as they are whinging about a lack of TV for one night.

Come on look around you. What people have done and lost not what you think is the case from SM.

My 39 year old friend lost her life, left 5 young children behind as a result of some selfish parent sending not one but 2 children to school while awaiting covid results which then came back as positive 2 days later, leading to my friends children bringing covid home to her. So I think I know what people have lost especially at the selfishness of others.

It had been just under 24 hours of continuous coverage on Australian ABC. One wonders how they (BBC, ABC) will top this when the Queen dies. If this is the blanket saturated coverage we had with the Duke of Edinburgh dying, just what will it be like when the Queen dies? An entire week of non-stop coverage? I honestly wouldn't be surprised if it is an entire week for the Queen.

Roussette · 10/04/2021 15:33

Plebs flocking to this thread like they do to benefits

I think you need a lie down with a damp cold flannel on your forehead, you're rambling somewhat

And?? I would imagine it will be. So...

What “service “ FFS . A life of unimaginable privilege and wealth. He literally did NOTHING to improve the lives of anyone. Traipsing around after the Queen... another medieval anachronism, on various state visits, blah blah. Hardly working in the 2 foot nine is it. People are well and truly brainwashed if they believe that the monarchy and their hangers on see the rest of us as anything other than the great unwashed. The French had the right idea. Too many sheeple in this country though.

theDudesmummy · 10/04/2021 15:37

I'm no royalist but I think extensive, even wall-to-wall coverage on one BBC channel for a couple of days (plus the day of the funeral) is entirely appropriate to the event. More than that? Multiple channels? Just why?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 15:42

Big clap or not. I do t really give a shite.

But it was in response to someone who said ‘scum’dont do anything for their country.

I am in Ireland, the PP story was prominant last night on news websites etc, but today the only related item on the front page of the Irish Times website is about the complaints the BBC has received!

Cokecake · 10/04/2021 15:43

The only problem I had was when bbc 1 and bbc 2 were showing the exact same programme at the same time!!! It didn’t make any sense. They couldn’t put masterchef final on bbc 2 instead.

Tealightsandd · 10/04/2021 15:43

I submitted a counter balance feedback, thanking the BBC for their coverage. It was one day out of 365, and nowadays we have plenty of alternative options - iPlayer, Amazon Prime, Netflix, etc. The complaining is meanspirited and unnecessary. It was interesting history aside from anything else. Prince Philip's life was fascinating, and he was one of the last of the generation who saw active service in WW2.

Dancingsmile · 10/04/2021 15:44

Radio 1 and 2 were only playing sad songs and reports of his life as well.

It was trending on twitter that us saying North Korea is a dictatorship is laugh when we are told that the whole nation is in mourning about Prince Phlillip . BBC seem to know how we all feel or think they should tell us how we're feeling.

It's sad he's died and he deserves recognition but this is ridiculous.

Roussette · 10/04/2021 15:45

www.theguardian.com/media/2021/apr/10/bbc-flooded-with-complaints-over-prince-philip-coverage

'Although the BBC is used to finding itself in the middle of Britain’s culture wars, its handling of Philip’s death points to a deeper question over the ability of a national broadcaster to force the country together to mourn a single individual in an era where audiences are fragmented and less deferential'

Spot on.

Roussette · 10/04/2021 15:46

We covered this upthread. Not everyone does. Especially the elderly

ColourMeExhausted · 10/04/2021 15:47

Oh come on. People know the score when there's a royal death! At least it's not like when Princess Diana or the Queen Mum went and there were scant alternatives. I've barely noticed it, plenty to keep me going on Netflix etc or catch up!

goes back to reading '99 inappropriate things Prince Philip said'

cateycloggs · 10/04/2021 15:48

Another pleb scum here, I have complained to the BBC about the complete removal of BBC4 and Radio4Extra from theschedules. I have never complained that the vast majority of BBC out put or practically all Freeview channels have content that does not suit my taste. I cannot afford any subscription channel (another plebby point, I think), I cannot go out often, I spend about 75% of my time alone in silence, am I wrong to expect the national broadcasting service not to cut off me as a licence payer when the same information is being broadcast on several channels?
I note that BBC1 and 2 are managing to broadcast different sports, Radio4 and 4Extra apparantly cannot broadcast different speech based programmes. Hence my complaint is not unreasonable.

MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2021 15:51

Gallbladder that is very sad. And awful you know whose dc were positive, must be hard.

But not all are as that person. Majority of people have changed lives significantly and complied. There will always be outliers unfortunately.

ineedaholidaynow · 10/04/2021 15:51

If we had a President instead of Royal Family I am assuming the same would have happened

Tealightsandd · 10/04/2021 15:54

@Roussette

We covered this upthread. Not everyone does. Especially the elderly

It's one day out of 365. One day for history buffs. As also pointed out upthread, we have lots of days with heavy sports coverage that see regular programmes cancelled, i.e. the Olympics. I like sports but not everyone does. Yesterday was one day for people who like history (Royalist or not).

Also the number of people without access to iPlayer is decreasing by the day. It's largely patronising nonsense that most elderly don't have iPlayer. Even my technology phobic aunt in her late 70s has it. My dad in his 80s was an early adopter.

AlexaShutUp · 10/04/2021 15:57

Having just switched on the TV, I'm not sure what everyone is complaining about. It seems to be rugby on BBC1 and some sort of car racing on BBC2. Both every bit as unappealing to me as all of the PP coverage, but again, I assume that some people must be interested.

I think some people just like to complain about everything.

MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2021 15:57

Tealightsandd why the same thing on
multiple channels?

I don’t watch TV anyway but I do enjoy R6 and the music has been fairly unbearable overall.

Tealightsandd · 10/04/2021 15:58

What service FFS
A post demonstrating why yesterday's TV history programmes would've been worth watching. He saw active service in WW2.
