Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

This is what matters to me...

twitter.com/PaulAppleyard/status/1380172762770194434

"I was very briefly in London today on ITI business and took the opportunity to visit the Covid Memorial Wall by St Thomas' Hospital. It took me 6 minutes just to walk past it..."

The footage is something else and makes me tearful.

BBC should REFLECT the public mood. By this enforced mourning or “protocol” it is trying to shape the public mood by insisting all of its channels cease normal broadcasting. Let’s not forget this protocol was designed when you couldn’t easily just “switch over”. There is absolutely no need for 2 TV channels to be simlecasting the same broadcasts. No need for the more “obscure” stations like bbc 6 music to be playing pre approved music and having entire sections removed as deemed “inappropriate”.

Why is it disrespectful for Craig Charles to be spinning some funk and soul this evening but the Rugby and Final Score on BBC 1 now is ok?

CBBC even had a banner saying switch over for an important news announcement for god sake!

This isn’t just one afternoon too, it is EIGHT DAYS of sanitised national broadcasting. The BBC has a supposed duty to be impartial but this proves exactly it is not. It is a machine for the ruling class who are deciding what is important and what we should be hearing. People are so indoctrinated they’re missing the bigger picture. Thankfully more people seem to be aware of this kind of subtle, systematic control judging by the number of complaints.

The coverage about 9/11 was understandable and a truly shocking historical moment.

The two are not comparable in anyway. That was an horrific event that impacted millions of peoples lives.

Old man who has been endlessly in and out of hospital, not such a shocker.

Do you all know we have black painted iron railings and gates because of Albert's death? (Albert - as in husband of Queen Victoria). Before they were all painted in different colours but were never repainted after the black.
P.S. A ''come back'' is not required for this gem of information.

@MarshaBradyo

Over the last year especially it has become very obvious that a lot of this country don't give a shit about anything or anyone apart from themselves in all situations. They expect the whole world to revolve around them at all times it would seem.

🙄 Yeh no one has changed their lives dramatically for others in this past year at all have they

Oh they all have but not without massive amounts of whinging about it constantly, the exact same as they are whinging about a lack of TV for one night.
MrsTreglowan · 10/04/2021 15:18

The fawning is getting right up my nose why oh why keep repeating the same stuff over and over, so yep switched off the bbc also emailed them and now off to take my dog for a run

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 15:18

Except paid taxes all my life
Except worked in public services supporting young people
Except give to charities
Except do voluntary work
Except raise 4 hardworking DC who also pay tax
Yeah I’ve done nothing for this country🙄

70 years of service to the country. Yes service. Meanwhile the plebs on this thread who have never done anything to serve the country want to sit here criticising. Scum.

Oh dear such unroyal plebeian thoughts.

Wobblesandchickuns · 10/04/2021 15:19

History in the making? Oh, please. Old man stops living. It's not as though he was assassinated or died unexpectedly. He was old as fuck and that's what happens.

People getting their knickers in a bunch about it are missing the point. The point isn't that there was nothing else to do but watch TV, it's that it's offensive to assume that the whole country wants to stand still and mourn. I didn't know the bloke, I'm not grieving but if I wanted to, wouldn't BBC1 OR BBC2 be enough? Why both? It's about having this forced down our throats that makes me annoyed about it.

And for those saying "read a book" - I didn't lose my ability to read a book just because I'd normally watch telly at that time.

How the fuck do you know what posters on here have done for the country?
How?
That is an insult too far.
Given Covid, you have no idea if you are conversing with nurses, doctors, care workers, volunteers.
You don't know.

Come on look around you. What people have done and lost not what you think is the case from SM.

Puffthemagicdragongoestobed · 10/04/2021 15:20

Conflict in Northern Ireland seventh (!!!) down the list of top stories on the BBC app after a story about something the Countess of Wessex said. This is too much!!!

The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

@Siepie

Over the last year especially it has become very obvious that a lot of this country don't give a shit about anything or anyone apart from themselves in all situations. They expect the whole world to revolve around them at all times it would seem.

You mean the people who expect every channel to show the same thing on repeat all day, because that's what they want to watch?

I didn't watch it. I have no interest in it, but I equally don't feel the need to complain about it because i'm not so shortsighted to realise that it is a significant event in the country. I appreciate that to myself and many others it does not feel significant to us at all but to many other people it is and it was completely to be expected. And all this 'every channel' ffs theres about 70 channels on freeview....it was not on every channel or anywhere bloody near every channel!
TurquoiseDragon · 10/04/2021 15:22

@poppycat10

Do those people want exactly the same programmes on both BBC1 and BBC2

We get that with sporting events at times too.

We don't get the exact same programme with sports, no.

Maybe different commentators on the very, very rare times the exact same sporting event is on more than one channel.

Normally, when it's the same sport, like football, it'll be different matches.

So not the same as 9 hours of identical programming on two channels. I haven't bothered to complain, but I don't feel there was any need to do this. And my famiily are Royalist.

I’ve only done 33 years service in the NHS and worked throughput the pandemic, including with Covid patients; done voluntary work with a disabled children’s charity since I was 14 and help out at a food bank whilst caring for my ill husband.

How many more years do I have to achieve to stop being scum? I guess I’ll always be a pleb. Hmm

Paquerette · 10/04/2021 15:23

@Sparrowfeeder

I am more sad about a tree my neighbour cut down across the road than I am about Prince Phillip. Can we have multi-channel public broadcasts about the destruction of our natural landscape and the decline of our wildlife? So much more important than some over privileged randoms!
Prince Philip helped found the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) in 1961, and did a huge amount of work to draw attention to conservation worldwide from that time. He even authored several books on the subject. A lot of that was shown on the tv coverage yesterday. Even David Attenborough said "His importance to conservation worldwide has been absolutely huge".
PurpleRainDancer · 10/04/2021 15:23

@CatherineMorland

So sad that people couldn’t cope with an afternoon off TV to honour a man who devoted his life to public service.
This
Quaagars · 10/04/2021 15:23

Yes, history in the making and I'm not particularly a Royal fan myself, couldn't really care less either way about them.
To just pass him off as "an old man" though is kind of ignoring the fact that whether you like it or not, the Royal Family are a huge part of England and history.
It's not rocket science that there's going to be lots of coverage on his death.

Vursayles · 10/04/2021 15:23

“ user1471439310

It makes me sad as an American that someone would complain about this. When 911 happened it was on for weeks and if someone didn't want to watch there is an off button on the tv. This man may have been privileged but he is the Queens husband, show some respect.”

Well, exactly. Yes of course we can all have different opinions regarding the Royal Family but to actually go out of your way to complain to the BBC is pathetic. The man had just died THAT MORNING. And folk are moaning about missing a few hours of telly? People have the right not to give a shit but he was the husband of our longest reigning monarch for over 70 years. How shitty and petty-minded to complain about one evening of tributes.

canigooutyet · 10/04/2021 15:24

THat is some special magic power you have there to know what every person on this thread has done.

None Royals do some magnificent things for their community and country, just there's no-one running off to the press every 5 minutes to shout look at me. Look at the amazing things I have done. And the few that do get coverage, it's 5 minutes and forgotten about.

MagicSummer · 10/04/2021 15:25

Just turned on the TV now and the four main channels have football, rugby, racing and motor racing! Shall I complain - it's far too much sport.

MarshaBradyo · 10/04/2021 15:25

Angry posters raging about ‘scum’ really couldn’t sound more removed from our dear Queen if they tried. Quite ironic.

ICouldHaveCheckedFirst · 10/04/2021 15:26

I tried listening to R4 yesterday afternoon (it's my go-to station). Even 2 hours after the announcement it was becoming repetitive. I switched off.
Back on around teatime - same material, same contributors, same anecdotes, same soundbites. Heck, he lived for nearly 100 years and they have about 30 minutes worth of material that they keep recycling? Is that it??

Watched something on catch-up in evening (no mention of PP, phew!)

Bedtime on R4 - same old same old.
This morning on R4 - same.

I tried other channels: R2, R3, Classic FM. Between every piece of music is another mention of PP. Aaaargh.

My life, personally, will not change one iota due to his death. Sure, it's sad for the Queen, as they were married for 73 years, and knew each other much longer, they were close, etc. But most of us won't notice. I realise the media were always going to mark the occasion but to be broadcasting the same stuff on all channels really isn't necessary.

Silence is golden.

RampantIvy · 10/04/2021 15:26

This afternoon four out of the five terrestrial channels are showing sport. It takes me back to Saturday afternoons of my childhood. I think I will write to the BBC, ITV and channel 4 to complain.

Or maybe I will watch an episode of Masterchef that I have recorded instead.

gallbladderpain · 10/04/2021 15:26
