The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

Have you no respect?

WTAF.
I think it is entirely appropriate that there would be continuous coverage of this on one of the BBC terrestrial channels.
Just because I don't think it should be simultaneous broadcasting on all of it's channels does not mean I am lacking in respect.

gallbladderpain · 10/04/2021 14:59

This country is full of 'proud to be british' when it suits them. Captain Tom oh everyone was proud to be British then and we couldn't escape the death of essentially the same as Prince Philip some random priveledged old man that we never met before. All the virtue signalling clapping for 'heroes' blah blah. Then whenever something significant that is actually is related to being British happens and it has a minor impact on someones life...no tv for half a day outrageous (quite frankly it had no impact on mine, I didn't watch it but I also didn't sit bored all day complaining about how there was nothing to watch on TV) everyone is in uproar.

@Roussette

Off to read the article about what to expect when HMTQ goes

It really might depress you a bit @SauvignonBlanche
This is nothing compared to a month of this.... Shock

You’re not wrong there @Roussette Hmm

It's no body's "duty" to mourn a very privileged member of an incredibly privilged elite. Ths is not Stalinist Russia, yet.

randomer · 10/04/2021 15:01

Captain Tom, Prince Phillip, clap for the NHS.....what a lot of nonsense.

Many people go about their lives quietly and kindly. They don't have PR gurus or insane wealth.

Charley50 · 10/04/2021 15:01

6 Music still has the sad songs on! It's pure propaganda and willy-waving on behalf of the monarchy. So offensive to people who are still impacted by that link between the Empire and the Monarchy.
Fuck. Off!!

@MagicSummer

For goodness' sake, can people not stop carping about ONE day of TV which was not to their taste? Go and do something useful instead. Whether you like it or not, Prince Philip led a very interesting, successful and meaningful life - he has been the Queen's support for over 70 years, and she will miss him terribly. Have you no respect?
Jesus Christ! Shock

I know the DoE was 100 (almost) but this sort of reaction is more from the 18th century.

Some real scum on this thread. Shows what the country has become.
This post is more along those lines.
gallbladderpain · 10/04/2021 15:07

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

It’s not about missing favourite shows.

It’s about the assumption that the entire population care, when a lot of them don’t give a shit. And we pay a licence fee for this!

Over the last year especially it has become very obvious that a lot of this country don't give a shit about anything or anyone apart from themselves in all situations. They expect the whole world to revolve around them at all times it would seem.

You mean the people who expect every channel to show the same thing on repeat all day, because that's what they want to watch?

Unicornish · 10/04/2021 15:10

Rich old man dies at home at the age of 99. Sad for his immediate family of course, but hardly a national tragedy! Hmm

Am honestly sick of hearing about the royals. They have every privilege imaginable and still spend their time griping, whinging, bickering, and in some cases (Prince Andrew), engaging in very questionable activities.

And I had to miss my Friday evening viewing of Gardener's World for the sentimental, mawkish and sycophantic crap they were airing last night.

I think we all need to get a fucking grip. How many people have died over the last year? Why does he matter so much more than any of the rest of them?

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 15:10

Proud to be ‘scum’💪🏻😂

Us peasants know our place. We are scum for being republicans. And we would never use the word ‘scum’ either.

Lol scum because people didn't wanted to be subjected to the same shite across multipe channels.

Just because someone isn't a raging royalist and thinks it's not right that there is blanket enforced mourning, it means we don't care about anyone?
That's a bit of a stretch.
Choices.
Everyone should have choices.

Again I will say... I think it was entirely right for there to be blanket coverage of Prince Philip. However, it is not right that BBC deemed it OK for this to be on all the channels, whilst running the main two with the same programme. One channel, yes, absolutely.

Because of choice. Not everyone is a royalist.

user1471439310 · 10/04/2021 15:12

It makes me sad as an American that someone would complain about this. When 911 happened it was on for weeks and if someone didn't want to watch there is an off button on the tv. This man may have been privileged but he is the Queens husband, show some respect.

Wannabangbang · 10/04/2021 15:12

Whether you loved or hated him, it's history in the making and part of English heritage. I don't agree with some things he said and did but he was a royal and he served for his country. Either turn the tv over or go for a walk it's not rocket science. Complaining about this is pretty sad and a waste of your time and others which have to deal with such complaints.

Most countries have a period of official mourning when someone like a Head of State dies.

Iamthewombat · 10/04/2021 15:14

Can someone give me a link to THE PROTOCOL? Or is it set in tablets of stone and not digitally available?

I was thinking this, so cheers for saying it.

Everyone bow down to the BBC protocol! Never question it. It has been handed down to your betters at the BBC by the Illuminati, who have decided that all BBC channels will show griefwank simultaneously.

Couldn’t they have confined it to one channel only for people who like this sort of thing? Why identical coverage on the two main BBC channels and blanking BBC4? To make sure that we absorb the message of this blessed unchangeable protocol that we can’t question? “You WILL mourn! You WILL cry! You WILL care about an old bloke you had no connection to and never met!”

badacorn · 10/04/2021 15:14

This will only go on for a few days surely. TV is shit anyway, how are people so addicted they can’t turn it off and do something else for a while?

I’m no fan of the royal family either.

ComDummings · 10/04/2021 15:14

There’s that word ‘respect’ again, what’s respectful about jamming all the BBC channels and radio channels with rolling coverage of a 99 year old’s death? How does that show him respect?
