The BBC have been overwhelmed with complaints about coverage of Prince Philip

Showing the same thing on 2 channels simultaneously.

Now you just enter your email to complain as they couldn’t cope with the amount of complaints.

You don't want to watch. Lots of people do. You go and do something else, and the people who want to can watch

But how can they watch 4 channels at once? 2 of which were the BBC showing the same coverage simultaneously.
That's my point

Theunamedcat · 10/04/2021 14:45

@worried3012

Jeez people really went out of their way to complain about this? Granted it's a little annoying but not totally unexpected and what is complaining after the event going to change? Nothing can beat that week when Princess Diana died and back to back coverage every day. Heck, nothing can beat when Michael Jackson died and every radio station played song after song Grin
Oh blimy I had almost forgotten about Michael Jackson fortunately we had no TV hooked up so we just watched dvds and drove in silence
Mysterian · 10/04/2021 14:45

@TonTonMacoute

I have complained about radio 4/4 Extra because it is identical on both channels!

I would be a bit annoyed if it was different - but it's exactly the same content!!!

Exactly. I'm not complaining because a whole channel was devoted to it. I'm complaining because all channels were devoted to it, showing the same thing.

it is the worst of mumsnet imo

Porcupineintherough · 10/04/2021 14:46

Its utterly pathetic that we are forced to pay for multiple channels all putting out the same warmed-over, uninsightful shit. Prince Philip had a long and interesting life. I look forward to a well made memorial programme about it at some point in the future. But this is not it.

Siepie · 10/04/2021 14:48

You don't want to watch. Lots of people do. You go and do something else, and the people who want to can watch. Problem solved. Lots of people do want to watch!

Still nobody can explain why this needed 4 BBC channels and BBC4 taken off air though. Surely none of the people who wanted to watch were watching every channel simultaneously?

frostyfingers · 10/04/2021 14:48

If you don’t like it, don’t watch it. I’m not a fan of the endless football/golf/snooker coverage when it takes over the TV but find something else to do or watch - it’s not difficult for goodness sake.

Charley50 · 10/04/2021 14:49

@Roussette

No idea if she would even be aware there are other channels than 1, 2, 3 and 4. She only talks about Bargain Hunt and Songs of Praise to me!
This was my mum. She couldn't remember how to change the channel herself so just left it on one or occasionally two. She liked the royals so would have probably enjoyed it for a couple of hours. So many very old people are reliant on regular TV, and not all are monarchist.

I think it's the Royal's revenge for so many of us watching the Harry & Megan interview.

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 14:50

I’m not sure how else to explain enforced coverage of something which is not wanted other than ‘hijacking’ 🤔

And too right I’m using emotive language- it’s bloody appalling. The BBC is letting us all know our place with enforced grieving.

Viewing figures dropped by 60% , the Beeb couldn’t handle the complaints. Doesn’t that say something? Suspending Channel 4 and indoctrinating children’s tv. That’s not propaganda?!

"Exactly. I'm not complaining because a whole channel was devoted to it. I'm complaining because all channels were devoted to it, showing the same thing."

So simple a point and yet so many failing to grasp it.

RedcurrantPuff · 10/04/2021 14:51

@RichardMarxisinnocent

I know right. Do they have nothing else but Corrie etc?

Is it necessary to be so dismissive and superior about other people's lives and interests? My dad didn't really have any interests others than Corrie and other soaps, going for a walk, and sometimes reading. He absolutely hated missing his favourite TV programmes and used to get very stressed if there was a possibility he was going to miss them.

Exactly, very sneering and unpleasant.
Rummikub · 10/04/2021 14:51

@Badyboo

For many older people, TV/radio is their lifeline. And no, they don't have catchup and they only watch the first 4/5 channels. So it is meaningful to many, even if you want to sneer at the losers who just want to watch the soaps.

History in the making, my arse.

Agree completely.

Some people don’t have much choice. Tv/ radio their only companion- especially so in the pandemic.

MagicSummer · 10/04/2021 14:52

For goodness' sake, can people not stop carping about ONE day of TV which was not to their taste? Go and do something useful instead. Whether you like it or not, Prince Philip led a very interesting, successful and meaningful life - he has been the Queen's support for over 70 years, and she will miss him terribly. Have you no respect?

I complained just now, thanks for the heads up.

Sorry, but this made me laugh - so you didn't complain before, but everyone else is so now you feel the need to as well, kind of like a complaining bandwagon lol, might go some way to explaining how there's so many

Tootyfilou · 10/04/2021 14:53

Bloody hell ! I have had my post removed for calling Prince Phillip a racist ( which he patently was ) and describing the coverage as like something from North Korea ... obviously its reaching further than MSM.

And where was BBC respects when they aired the same thing simultaneously across multiple channels thus denying their paying viewers a choice?
Mintjulia · 10/04/2021 14:54

There are an awful lot of shallow self indulgent people around.

I wouldn't feel the need to whine about what I want when anyone's loved one had died, regardless of the fact it's the Duke of Edinburgh.

I agree. It seems people can't put up with anything for a even a short while. There are so many channels to choose from, even if the main ones were showing a lot about the DofE.

The programmes about him I found extremely interesting anyway. You don't have to be an ardent royalist to enjoy history.

TV seems virtually back to normal today.

ElephantsNest · 10/04/2021 14:54

Thinking about it, the media doing what they did is quite a good way of whipping up anti monarchy sentiment.

MagicSummer · 10/04/2021 14:55

@ArseInTheCoOpWindow

No l have no respect for a parasite really.
I think that is a mean, spiteful remark and quite unnecessary when a man has just died.

I hate football, snooker, darts, cricket, rugby, golf, motor racing, reality TV shows, talent shows and Eastenders, but I don't complain to the BBC about the amount of time they are on!

ArseInTheCoOpWindow · 10/04/2021 14:55

Tootyfilou- more media blackouts......it is exactly like North Korea.

Propaganda?
Indoctrinating?
Oh give over.
It's always been the way when senior members of the Royal family die, whether you like it or not.
How old are you, just out of interest?

PMcGintysGoat · 10/04/2021 14:56

magicsummer

I personally know people who have also had interesting, successful and meaningful lives and yet I'm not expecting you who didn't know them, to mourn their passing.

LoveMySituation · 10/04/2021 14:56

How are you supposed to mourn someone you didn't know anyway? It's not like you can think back on all the happy times you spent together. Are you just supposed to wear black and look solemn at all times until the funeral?
And as for it being a 'duty' I don't think mourning works that way. If it's forced, it's just a lie. If it's not freely given, there's no point. He didn't like a fuss, so I'm sure Philip would want life to go on. Different for the family of course
