Crumpets

Good Morning!

Just pondering as I make myself some breakfast - how do you eat your crumpets?

I pop mine in the toaster until they are piping hot then spread them with butter. The key here is that they are still soft.

My husband thinks this is gross as 'they're so anaemic' - he grills them to within an inch of their lives so they are rock hard.

I know some people have cheese on them, or jam, or marmite...so, how do you eat yours???

I like mine well toasted so they're crispy on the outside. Butter and Marmite, or cheese under the grill.

I don't like the claggy texture of a soft, underdone crumpet.

EventuallyDistracted · 10/04/2021 09:11

I put mine through the toaster twice till they are crunchy on the outside but not burnt. Then butter, marmite or soft cheese (or combinations). Never sweet toppings.

BeastOfBODMAS · 10/04/2021 09:13

If on their own I toast until crunchy on top with butter or peanut butter.
I also often have them plain toasted with soup as the sponge texture seems to soak up soup better than a bread roll.

I am probably what you’d describe as a wrongun for this.

Toasted till they are crispy and buttered until they won’t hold any more.
Occasionally some cheddar on them, but mainly just butter with extra salt lumps

TheChosenTwo · 10/04/2021 09:16

So well grilled (don’t have a toaster!) that they look burnt and then slathered in really salty butter and sometimes marmite too.
Weirdly I hate toast to have any colour, I like it to still look like bread but to have a bit of a crunch, then I like it to go cold (stood up in a toast tent so it doesn’t sweat underneath) and then it gets a thick non melty layer of butter. You’ll be glad to know that I rarely make myself toast or crumpets Grin
Sorry, I know you didn’t ask about toast, it’s a whole separate topic which can get very heated Grin

SOUPPPPP????

My initial feeling on this is 'yuk!' but I am definitely going to give this a go in the future!

I toast mine until they are just crispy golden, and then LASHINGS of melty butter.

ExitChasedByAnImposter · 10/04/2021 09:18

Always toasted until crispy but not rock hard. Usually with butter and honey or butter and jam. Sometimes with melted cheddar cheese and Branston pickle and a few other toppings, sort of like an open ploughman’s sandwich. Occasionally, have crumpets with eggs sunny side up or as French toast. Depends on my mood I suppose Xmas Grin

Oh I'm with you on toast. Nicely golden but absolutely yes to buttering it once cold so it doesn't go soggy.

That's another thing DH and I don't agree on, as well as how cooked a steak should be and what shade of brown a cup of tea should be.

Come to think of it, we don't agree on much at all when it comes to food and drink Grin

Crispy on the outside and with far too much butter!

NannyR · 10/04/2021 09:20

I put them in the toaster twice too, they need to have some crunchy texture on the outside and some colour. Plenty of real butter too.
Eggy crumpets are delicious too - soak them in beaten egg and fry them like you would fry eggy bread.

DobbyTheHouseElk · 10/04/2021 09:21

Toasted for 5 mins so they are hard and hot. Then slather in butter and marmite.

I can’t have them in the house as they are so calorific.

Rollopollo · 10/04/2021 09:21

Crispy on the outside with lots of butter, and either marmite or honey. They also make lovely eggy crumpets (they soak up so much eggy goodness!) or topped with cheese and melted. Want a crumpet!!!

Shelovesamystery · 10/04/2021 09:23

Toasted until crisp on the outside and topped with as much Nutella as they can hold.

BerniesMittens · 10/04/2021 09:25

Lot of heathens on this thread! Shock

Crumpets should be hot and soft. The butter should ooze through and with a pinch of sea salt on top are divine.

LilacSorbet · 10/04/2021 09:25

I like mine still a bit soft, butter and Marmite.

FrangipaniBlue · 10/04/2021 09:40

Cool in the toaster and I like them how I like my toast - warm and soft in the middle but a slight crust on the outside!

Sometimes I have them lathered in butter and laughing cow cheese spread, today I am having them lathered in butter with a couple of poached eggs on top!

LemonRoses · 10/04/2021 09:42

Crispy and golden. Dripping in very salty butter. Food of the Gods.

ginislife · 10/04/2021 09:45

Twice through the toaster so cooked properly - can't be doing with a claggy crumpet ! Then butter marmite and dairylea cheese. Yum. Or buttered with a poached or boiled egg on top. Pate is also nice.

Yes like this. Must be salted butter.
LizBennet · 10/04/2021 10:03

I’m with your husband. I like them hard enough to put a window through.

JengaNonConfirming · 10/04/2021 10:05

I toast them so they're still soft, then chop them up into pieces, cover them in spaghetti hoops and pop a poached egg og top Grin

golddustwomen · 10/04/2021 10:08

I like mine very well toasted, crispy, lots of butter and strawberry jam Grin

niceupthedance · 10/04/2021 10:16

DP eats them raw Envy
