Can anyone help me with funeral songs for my Dad?

My Dad died unexpectedly last week. He didn't leave us any funeral instructions and I'm trying to get it right.

I need something that isn't particularly sad, he was quite a character and would've liked something a bit catchy.

He was a big fan of The Eagles, James Taylor, Eric Clapton and similar.

Would anyone with better knowledge than me be able to suggest something? I only know the mainstream songs.

This is a beautiful James Taylor song. We played it at my sister’s funeral as she was a big JT fan. Sending hugs x

Going to play this at my dads. We spoke about it after my mum passed suddenly too. I'm so sorry for your loss x

MegaBeach · 09/04/2021 23:56

How about ‘what a wonderful world’? Israel (his last name escapes me) does perform it in a medley with Over the Rainbow, but the Louis Armstrong version is a classic. I’m sorry for your loss xx

VanGoghsDog · 10/04/2021 03:57

We had Always On My Mind by the Pet Shop Boys, because dad asked for it, and Moving On by James over some written tributes (it was online) because I like it.

chatw00 · 10/04/2021 07:01

I like "Mexico" by James Taylor - fairly upbeat.
What about "White Room" by Cream for the Eric Clapton part?

Sorry for your loss Flowers

Thank you for all the suggestions, I'll be having a good trawl through Spotify now

We had The Living Years by Mike and the Mechanics.
For this verse:
I wasn't there that morning when my father passed away. I didn't get to tell him all the things I had to say.

Sending you condolences.

WitchisDead · 10/04/2021 17:25

Take it to the limit by the Eagles is great.

Soubriquet · 10/04/2021 17:29

Is there any song he really really liked no matter how inappropriate it may be?

My grandad was adamant his funeral song was going to be “the only way is up”

Well, we honoured it and played it. Made us all laugh but it was nice

Spottysausagedogs · 10/04/2021 17:34

Take it easy by the Eagles, Baker Street by Gerry Rafferty

KingdomScrolls · 10/04/2021 17:34

James Taylor you can close your eyes or you've got a friend are nice songs, eagles I've heard you are not alone but that was following a long painful illness so was more apt. My gran chose love of my life by Queen for my grandad and it was heartbreaking but completely right for them

Mother87 · 10/04/2021 17:36

Sorry for your lossFlowers I Wish You Peace ... The Eagles

Branleuse · 10/04/2021 17:43

Tears in heaven - clapton

trappedsincesundaymorn · 10/04/2021 17:52

Sorry for you loss OP. Did your father have a favourite genre of music or a particular hobby? Maybe a piece of music that links to what he liked.

ArcheryAnnie · 10/04/2021 18:05

I am sorry for your loss, Podiki.

Did he have any favourite films, as well as favourite singers? Because they can have some great music. (We played the Star Wars music at my dad's funeral...)
