I signed up to a different forum a few weeks. I was relatively new on the forum. I had an account there before years ago but closed it down. I joined up recently to take part in some local discussions on covid and other current affairs. I was polite everywhere in all of my dealings and I wasn't hostile.

Eventually I got a message into my inbox. I wasn't logged in at the time and I didn't read it straight away. When I looked in I found that there was 6 PMs sent from another user in the space of about an hour.

I read the messages and the tone was not a nice tone. The poster was mistaking me for someone else or an ex and she was rehashing a lot of their rows. There was some threats as well.

I replied to say she has the wrong person and I reported the messages.

By that evening I was banned from the forums. Not only that, I would consider the message ls that were sent into my inbox to be abusive and there was no action taken against that user. I clicked on the site to have a read because you can do that while not being logged in. There was no action taken against the user and the user continues to post.

To be banned from a forum is not the end of the world and there's so many more nice things out in the world but its a bit sore and hard to swallow because the other user who sent me messages with a bad tone, has a free pass.

The messages read 'bunny boiler' stuff to me. Definitely someone out with an axe to grind.

The sites administrators were onto me and they viewed the messages that the person sent to me as not abusive to me.

I definitely read a poor tone from the messages and not only that, there was some warped stuff in the PMs. The PMs definitely showed some sort of a derangement. I do think the person needs an intervention. To be so desperate to be PMing a random new account and pick apart what I posted and be so desperate to fit it around her issues and then right about 'penises being glorious'. Some derangement that I couldn't finish reading in fear of puking heavily.

Ok....shame.

Sparklingbrook · 08/04/2021 18:41

What do you want from this thread?

Umbivalent · 08/04/2021 18:42

and other current affairs

I wonder what they were?

ShesMadeATwatOfMePam · 08/04/2021 18:42

So?

Bimini · 08/04/2021 18:43

Is this a repost? I’ve read this one before.

Cheeseycheeseycheesecheese · 08/04/2021 18:46

I would chalk it up to a bad experience and draw a line under it.

WorraLiberty · 08/04/2021 18:49

I wouldn't worry about the messages...as you say it was mistaken identity.

Maybe the banning was separate and you're flagging up as previously banned, rather than closed down yourself.

BlaBlaSmthSmth · 08/04/2021 18:55

What was the other forum OP?

freddiesmoustache · 08/04/2021 18:58

ColourfulElmerElephant · 08/04/2021 19:35

Isn’t this an issue to bring up with the other forum or just move on from?

GoToSleepBabyPlease · 08/04/2021 19:38

Oh dear. Never mind, pet.

Come and have a nice cup of Brew and forget all about it.

EstherMumsnet · 08/04/2021 20:37

Hi @Greengrassonhighroad, hopefully you will find Mumsnet to be a more welcoming place. If you do receive any messages like those you described do hit the report button and we can take a look. Here's a link to our Talk Guidelines .

Is this other forum a bit like MN but with modern featured? Perhaps a "poundland version"?Wink

That's the only place I know this sort of thing has happened before, from a post I read.

There are horrible people on all forums unfortunately, and some couldn’t wait to be sarky cows to you on this thread I see.
Most people on this forum are nice people though so ignore the mouthy ones.
