I am absolutely fuming at Walkers (lighthearted)

WTF do they have to mess with flavours?

My guilty pleasure is salt and vinegar crisps

I was happily munching when I noticed that they tasted different almost sweet

They’ve only gone and added sugar

Why?!!!! Anyone want to join me in a protest?

God knows if they’ve done it to other flavours

Prawn cocktail always had sugar but salt and vinegar??? It totally negates the vinegariness!

Angry

Someone at Walkers HQ better explain and fast!!!!

Rant not over!!

Wtf, why??

fifteenmillionmerits · 06/04/2021 00:35

Oh hell. I've got to go to our ASDA tomorrow, and was planning get some Walkers. Their salt and vinegar is one of my faves, but adding sugar sounds ridiculous.

GreyhoundG1rl · 06/04/2021 00:36

Sugar? Confused. Why?
Does Jamie Oliver know about this?! Wink

PastMyBestBeforeDate · 06/04/2021 00:46

No, that's not on. Sad

Jasmin82 · 06/04/2021 00:55

Ick. I prefer Seabrook crisps to Walkers. They don't have sugar in their salt and vinegar.

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 06/04/2021 01:03

I don’t like crinkle crisps so no Seabrooks for me

I can also confirm the cheese and onion has sugar although I’m not sure if it was there before

Apparently they are the best tasting ever! No they are not!

Marmite, Smokey bacon, pickled onion all have too!

GreyhoundG1rl · 06/04/2021 01:12

Why? They removed all sugar from things that had contained sugar for donkey's years, and now they're shoving it into things that never had sugar at all?? What's going on?

Potpourriandpennysweets · 06/04/2021 01:15

Maybe they had something like dextrose or lactose, which is sugar but not called sugar? And now they are just calling a spade a spade

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 06/04/2021 01:16

Who knows

Eh? Why? Agree that it sounds like a bizarre mood against current drives to remove sugar from food. At least they haven't stuffed them full of artificial sweeteners. Yet.

Thanks for the heads up OP. I was looking at the whizzy new packaging in the Co-op, but managed to resist buying any. Turns out that was a good move.

But I think Seabrooks do non crinkle crisps but you might not be able to get them unless you're in Yorkshire.

Here they're a local brand, so there seems to be a bigger variety than other places. I always laugh when they're promoted in Waitrose as the 'artisan premium' version. I do like Seabrook crisps, but a lot of people seem to see them as a bit cheap and inferior to the likes of Walker's, KP etc.

sunflowersandbuttercups · 06/04/2021 07:04

Walkers "normal" crisps are pretty grim anyway - I don't get why they're so popular!

Most popular things are a bit shit.

McDonalds, Greggs, Subway, reality TV.

That might be because the are more easily found in Poundland than supermarkets where I live.

I agree. Golden wonder were much better. Even those old school cheapy pub crisps were better.
IHopeYouStepOnALegoPiece · 06/04/2021 08:24

I moved last year to a country that doesn’t have walkers cheese and onion crisps and I’ve been DREAMING of them.

If they’ve changed them I will have the absolute rage!

BarbaraofSeville · 06/04/2021 08:31

If you have green Lays (tomato and onion?) where you are Lego I'll do you a swap. I'll even scour the local supermarkets for old style lower sugar versions.

Chemenger · 06/04/2021 08:36

Golden Wonder crisps are much nicer and the packets are the right colour. I don’t know how Walkers became so dominant. Sugar in salt and vinegar is so wrong; you wouldn’t put sugar on chips (I have actually had the misfortune to have been served sugared fries in a “french” restaurant in the US and they were disgusting.)

youngestisapsycho · 06/04/2021 08:36

I’ve been fuming at Walkers since they stopped making Steak&Onion flavour!

NowWhatUsernameShallIHave · 06/04/2021 13:15

I was partial to golden wonder before walkers took over

Sometime you can find GW - Iceland sometimes have them but not S&V ones

The problem with GW is they have MSG and I think a few other ingredients that are unnecessary

I’ve already sent a complaint to Walkers!

Seabrooks do straight cut crisps too, I bought some by accident the other week. Wish they were stocked more places, as they're gluten free when many others aren't.

ElderMillennial · 06/04/2021 13:46

Haven't they always had sugar in?

I'm enjoying salt & vinegar McCoy's at the moment. Nice and strong

StealthPolarBear · 06/04/2021 13:51

I bought some the other day for the first time in ages and thought they weren't right. Couldn't put my finger on it.

TheCanyon · 06/04/2021 13:51

Cheese and onion changed a year or two ago, not half as tasty anymore.
