Have leftovers in the fridge for the next day?

Camomila · 05/04/2021 08:43

100% the portions are huge, and I love having it for breakfast the next day (I only eat the veggie stuff)

Formulation123 · 05/04/2021 08:44

@PrintempsAhoy good point! We are just shy of 6ft and I do go running but definitely don’t burn 3000cal a day. My DH is quite active and always finishes my plate...maybe I should order him an extra side next time 😋

SatsumaFan · 05/04/2021 08:54

I guess we didn't get free poppadoms as didn't spend enough?! One of the curries was a curry of the week @ £5 (turned out to be smaller than normal so dh wasn't happy) , other two approx £8 each. Then 2 x rice.

He sounds tight not frugal.

DC don't like Indian food (weirdos), so it's just between DP and me. We usually order a curry between us. It comes with one rice and we order a portion of pilau and some naan bread. That's plenty for us. If there was food left over, it would go in the fridge, sit there for a few days, then get thrown away. Neither of us seem to want to revisit the same food next day! So we just order what we need. I'm by no means slim or indeed careful about what I eat, but I couldn't eat a whole curry by myself. The portions here are huge, Chinese food in particular.

Oblomov21 · 05/04/2021 09:07

His stinginess would ruin it for me. If you don't have takeaways very often, are hacked off with cooking and I can't wait for the opportunity to have it fished up for you, not have to boil another pan and put it in the dishwasher and the thought of it all being provided for you is then ruined by someone doing what he did, it would really peeve me.

SatsumaFan · 05/04/2021 09:13

Yessss @Oblomov21! You've hit the nail on the head there. We only have a takeaway every 3-4 months or so, so it's a real treat. He is stingy at times but that's about his only fault Smile

We never share! I hate going somewhere, ordering what you really fancy then everyone else saying we'll all share the dishes. NO!!!

DH and I will get:
2 x starters
2 x mains
1 x onion rice
3 x chapaties (for DH)
Free poppadoms & pickles

There's always a small portion left for the next day but DH will eat that. I don't want to feel like I've ended up having two takeaways in 24 hours!

BarbaraofSeville · 05/04/2021 09:23

Let's not forget that takeaway is expensive, especially at the prices the OP paid, and a portion is usually far more food than most people would eat in one meal, so it's perfectly reasonable and not stingy to share and only order what you expect to eat in one meal. It's how a lot of people do it to make it affordable and not waste food of they don't want leftovers, because not everyone does.

Jacopo · 05/04/2021 09:27

There’s no point in wasting food and most takeaway portions are ludicrously large and contain more calories than an entire day’s worth for an average adult.
So your DH was being sensible.

SatsumaFan · 05/04/2021 09:29

Ah yes but @BarbaraofSeville in this instance it wasn't even enough for one meal Grin I had 2/3 of a curry and approx 1/3 of a rice. I was still hungry after.

We've got takeaway before and subsidised it with shop bought poppadoms, naan and boiled our own rice. I totally get that. But this wasn't the case on Sat night.

I live alone. When I order an Indian I get a bit carried away. I have enough left for breakfast, lunch and dinner for the following week 😂

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2021 09:40

I can’t really understand how it all happened so fast, you must have all been starving and grabbing at it? ,

I think if your skint then basically you should both have worked out what you can afford and then maybe made the rice at home. If you can all easily afford an extra fiver for a couple of portions of rice then it was quite odd behaviour. I’m guessing he also ordered the curry of the week thing becayse it was a couple of quid cheaper?

Eyebrow raised at the poster counting calories and declaring he’s sensible. If you eat sensibly the rest of the time you can eat excess calories now and again. And the calories isn’t in the rice, it’s in the curry itself😂

FannyChops · 05/04/2021 09:49

Between 2 we order:

2 curries
2 rice
1 naan
1 saag aloo
Bhajis.

Talking of cost. Our local Indian takeout is the only one in the town so it's expensive. Which is why we only have it a couple of times a year. For three of us it's £55 and that's with enough leftovers for only one person to have some the following day.

Roselilly36 · 05/04/2021 09:50

Never have left overs here. Wouldn’t fancy it the next day tbh.

RevolutionRadio · 05/04/2021 09:52

0%. 1curry each, 1 rice and naan to share, 2 poppadoms each.

Constance11 · 05/04/2021 09:55

100% - we like to order a variety of things so can never finish in one meal!

SatsumaFan · 05/04/2021 09:55

@FannyChops yes that's what we'd normally have.

@Bluntness100 definitely not skint or anywhere near it. My 10yr old is like me and loves his food, I enjoy seeing him enjoy is food / a treat so guess I did that weird thing of being the adult/parent and putting his needs first Wink it was only a takeaway, and yes we were starving as been saving ourselves for it all day.

Yeah I'm raising eyebrows at people talking about calories... This is not a diet thread people...

Well if budget isn't an issue, you were still hungry, and like having leftovers, next time you need to agree in advance what is being ordered and make sure everyone is on the same page.

Also watch as people are eating to make sure no one is taking more than their fair share before everyone has had a chance to take something.

SatsumaFan · 05/04/2021 10:18

Ok Barbara, thanks.

ComDummings · 05/04/2021 10:19

No naan bread would mean LTB for me! How very dare he.

chocolateoranges33 · 05/04/2021 10:30

No chance of leftovers. We order for 4 people - 2 adults and DC15 & DC16. We all have our own meat dish, rice/chips, naan & poppadoms. Absolutely NO sharing and nothing leftover.

LilacTrees · 05/04/2021 10:57

100% with all takeaways
