Have leftovers in the fridge for the next day?

Twice a month

SpiderinaWingMirror · 05/04/2021 07:56

I always leave half for breakfast. Cold.
Except when guest threw it all in the bin. I did eye up the bin tbh.

Bluntness100 · 05/04/2021 07:56

How come your ten year old was allowed to eat a whole portion of rice and didn’t think to share if your husband had ordered so little?

PrintempsAhoy · 05/04/2021 07:59

For me, DH snd 2 teens (16 and 18) we order 3 curries, 2 veg sides, 4 rice, 4 naans, 8 popadoms and we have leftovers for maybe 1 person or nothing

If DH orders he orders too little, so I always do the ordering.

DH hates ordering rice as we could just as well make it at home

So he orders 1 or 2 rice between us. But does not make rice at home. It’s just that we “could”. His solution means there is too little rice.

Bearsinmotion · 05/04/2021 08:00

Always. I have a 9 year old who will only eat rice and a 6 year old who will want to share chana masala, Bombay aloo, naan bread and whatever curry I order for dinner, but won’t eat it the next day, leaving it all to me Grin

SerenadeOfTheSchoolRun · 05/04/2021 08:02

100% here

It two adults and we always share a rice, a naan and a Bombay aloo and have a curry and a poppadom each. The leftovers usually consist of about a third of the curry, a little bit of rice and a few potatoes. I think the portions are quite generous.

Drawsapic · 05/04/2021 08:03

Gosh I wish there was a nice one near us. Last chicken korma was like eating pudding it was so sweet!

Graciebobcat · 05/04/2021 08:03

I'm a bit Smithy about takeaways apart from the rice. Everyone gets their own, we don't sit round the table sharing. No-one ever likes mine anyway as it is too spicy or has egg, mushrooms or tofu in it. Some might say this was deliberate. Halo

Mhc19 · 05/04/2021 08:09

100% we always get a chicken chat starter which is almost a meal in itself so by the time we get to the curry, rice and naan there's loads left for the next day. It's common knowledge that day old curry tastes better.

stairway · 05/04/2021 08:11

If he’s worried about the cost it makes sense just to boil your own rice or if lazy microwave packet/frozen rice. Then there is more money for the curry. We have an instapot which makes rice with no fuss.

Bluesheep8 · 05/04/2021 08:13

100%. We have it for 2 days.

BraveGoldie · 05/04/2021 08:18

Always leftovers - but that's the extra joy of takeaway - no hassle lunch for the next day! 😄

Oblomov21 · 05/04/2021 08:20

100%

Is he stingy? That would hack me off.

Pickledpenguin · 05/04/2021 08:22

Not understandingbthe rice thing. In ireland every curry comes with its own rice (or chips but ew) so theres always too much rice.

Formulation123 · 05/04/2021 08:24

Do people not share a meal and rice normally? Me and DH have one meal and one rice to share and then a naan to share. So I’m with the DH that two meals and two rice should be enough for 4 people....or are we a strange breed? 🤣

ineedaholidayandwine · 05/04/2021 08:31

Never. Its the one i can eat in one go, Chinese though i eat half and save the rest for the next days lunch. My husband is the other way around, he can eat an Indian but struggles to finish it, yet Chinese he can just keep eating.

Daydreamsinglorioustechnicolor · 05/04/2021 08:31

100% because I like to get sides etc for variety and then there's too much for one sitting.
However one meal, one portion of rice and naan would be too much for me anyway. I get really full of anything like rice or pasta really quickly. But takeaway leftovers are part of the fun!

freesolo · 05/04/2021 08:31

I always order a chicken chaat and a saag aloo and have that instead of a main, I don't order rice as I'm not keen. Also have at least 2 popadoms with the dips, my favourite part. Always have half leftover for lunch the next day. My god I love an Indian takeaway

SquigglePigs · 05/04/2021 08:31

Always. Actually I often order extra chicken tikka for lunch the next day. What your DH ordered was clearly not enough and his diet comment was rude.

cricketmum84 · 05/04/2021 08:32

And here we go with the competitive under eating comments.

Vetyveriohohoh · 05/04/2021 08:33

100% I over order deliberately

PrintempsAhoy · 05/04/2021 08:33

@Formulation123 not strange, but probably not a family of 6ft-6ft4 sporty eating machines like we are Grin (we all eat around 3000 cals a day)

Depends on your size and activity levels. We’re all huge hence the need for more food

SatsumaFan · 05/04/2021 08:36

We're down south so rice is separate and about £2.70.

@printempsAhoy yes, same dh logic. He said about cooking our own rice halfway thru eating Hmm I do 90% of the cooking and was looking forward to a treat, a night off. Those micro packets can be horrid and plain boiled basmati has nothing on a proper Indian takeaway mushroom or special rice.

@Bluntness100 because it all happened so quickly, and my husband had just made the diet comment which stung so I was smarting and sulking like a petulant teen for a bit. Thought maybe he had a point for a moment... Then realised my jalfrezi was amazing and I had no soakage and was sad. He happily ate about 1/3 of it, which was what was left after my rice ended.

Anyway, this was a lighthearted moan and to judge if it was normal to have leftovers usually. We never do when he orders, and often I'm still hungry after. So from now on I'll order - sorted Smile

LTB

Is he normally so horrible?!! Seriously though what was he actually thinking?

We almost always have leftover ls from Indian takeaway. As I'm vegetarian and my do isn't so we never share mains

CantStandMeow · 05/04/2021 08:41

Rarely, but that's because we're not that keen on curry leftovers. Our favourite curry house does massive portions, so one rice, one main and one naan with poppadoms is perfect between me and DH. We're certainly not teeny tiny MN undereaters. They just do massive portions, none of this mostly sauce crap Grin
